All who joined us at the latest Mycarforum hangout with the Smart #1 got the chance to learn more about one of newest brands to officially enter Singapore. After visiting the Lexus LBX in May, Mycarforum has now visited yet another crossover also perfect for taking on Singapore's streets! This time, we visited the new Smart #1, in both its 'Pro+' and 'Brabus' variants, at a swanky new pop-up showroom, located at 209 Pandan Gardens Road. This new space is set to serve as the temporary home for the newly-arrived-in-Singapore Smart brand until renovation work is completed at its permanent showroom located at level 3 of Mercedes-Benz Centre. If you're unfamiliar with the cars, here's a quick low-down on them: Sales of the all-electric Smart #1 kicked off here in Singapore only in April of 2024. The Smart #1 in its 'Pro+' variant comes with a total of 268bhp alongside a 66kWh battery, which allows you to cover a claimed 420km before its battery goes flat. The Smart #1 'Brabus', meanwhile, will please those looking for a bit more zest in their daily commute. Offering a total of 422bhp, this electric crossover will complete the century sprint in just 3.9 seconds. All this is made possible thanks to a battery which offers the same 66kWh capacity as the Smart #1 Pro+, but the greater energy consumption of the Brabus means you’ll be able to cover close to 400km before you'll need to plug the car back to a charger. And if they look a little familiar, there's a fair chance you're already seen them (other than here on Sgcarmart, that is). The cars have already visited locations including VivoCity, Jewel at Changi Airport, and Waterway point in a host of roadshows organised by Smart itself. The morning's Mycarforum hangout, however, is designed to give those interested in the cars the opportunity to get to know them better in a more exclusive setting. Those attending not only managed to catch some of the impressions of the Smart #1 from our own Editorial Manager, Mr. Desmond Chan, but also got a more comprehensive guide through the history of the Smart brand as well as the features of the cars themselves from Mr. Christopher Thenadi, Head of Operations for Smart at Cycle & Carriage Singapore. In case you’re wondering, the actual way to pronounce the EV’s name is “smart HASHTAG one” according to the official launch video. In case you are not familiar with the current iteration of smart Automobile Co., the company is no longer a full subsidiary of Mercedes-Benz but has been transformed into a joint venture between the company and Geely. As such, the Stuttgart giant is responsible for the design of the new smart #1 while the engineering portion is being handled by its Hangzhou counterpart. Exterior-wise, smart has generally retained the design lines of its Concept #1 for the production model albeit with some differences such as smaller 19-inch wheels, a less extravagant glass roof, and rear doors that still have front-mounted hinges. Measuring 4270mm long, 1822mm wide, and 1636mm tall alongside a wheelbase of 2750mm, the 1,820kg SUV also features concealed door handles and frameless doors together with up to 411L boot space and a 15L front boot. Alongside customisable ambient lighting, the smart #1 is equipped with touchscreen infotainment & vehicle control system that features a 12.8-inch Full HD display while the driver has also been provided with a 9.2-inch Full HD digital instrument cluster and a 10-inch Head Up Display. For the Premium and Launch Edition variants of the EV, there is also a 13-speakers audio system from Beats. Featuring a 200kw rear-wheel-drive setup that produces 272PS of power together with 343Nm of maximum torque, the SUV has a maximum speed of 180km/h. Through the car’s 66kWh battery, smart claimed that its new SUV is able to reach a maximum range of between 420km to 440km according to the WLTP standards. As always, charging times depends on the type of charger used with the smart #1. According to the company, the SUV can be charged from 10% to 80% in under 3 hours with a 22kW AC charger or in under 30 minutes when using a 150kW DC charger. Despite the official announcement today, smart didn’t reveal anything regarding the release date or the pricing for its new all-electric compact SUV. While Proton Edar has recently signed a deal to bring smart EVs into Malaysia, the company also has yet to make any official announcement regarding the availability of smart #1 for our market.

Am I the only one to think that almost all the face of modern EV look the same? The #3 comes with 268 horsepower (200 kilowatts) out of the box courtesy of a single electric motor, while the more powerful Smart #3 Brabus produces a feistier 422 hp (315 kW) via two electric motors, one on each axle. It takes 5.8 seconds for the standard Smart #3 to hit 100 kilometers per hour, and just 3.7 seconds for the Brabus model to do the same. The most efficient, single-motor Smart #3 has 455 kilometers of range on WLTP while the dual-motor model sees that figure drop slightly to 435 km. DC fast charging is listed at 150 kilowatts, which allows for a recharge from 10 to 80 percent in just 30 minutes.

This Smart overlander might be tiny but is full of features. This heavily modified Smart Fortwo might be the world's tiniest overlander. The video above shows the pint-sized off-roader on a camping trip. The clip below chronicles the build from a stock vehicle into this rugged machine. One of the Smart's interesting features is that its plastic body panels are easily removable. This is especially handy for this build because taking off the pieces provides easier access to the suspension and wheels. The modifications include installing spacers to lift the ride height by 1.969 inches (50 millimeters). There's also room to fit much larger, off-road-focused tires. This Fortwo is a soft top, and the builder wants to mount a roof-top tent. The convoluted solution is for the builder to have his buddy fabricate an external roll cage. It makes the Smart look a lot more rugged, especially with the addition of spotlights and an LED bar. A winch also mounts to the front. The recovery boards on the sides aren't functional but look cool. The changes aren't only on the outside. The builder also constructs a custom box that holds a two-burner gas stove and a sink. Unfortunately, the guy built the structure before lifting the car's suspension. The result is that it's sitting a bit too high to use comfortably. When it's time to eat, there's a silverware set in a fitted case. The setup means nothing slides around, even when driving over rugged terrain. While turning a Smart Fortwo into an overlander is absurd from a usability standpoint, the project is a fascinating example of what's possible. Judging from this video, a person could actually use this little rig on the occasional camping trip. Earlier in 2022, we saw an off-road-modified Smart Fortwo come up for sale. It had an eight-inch suspension lift and 30-inch tires to climb over rugged terrain. To protect the little vehicle, there was an external roll cage and skid plates. Proton recently announced that it has signed a deal with smart Automobile Company to introduce the brand’s upcoming electric vehicles in Malaysia and Thailand in the near future. If you’re wondering whether this is the same smart brand that was responsible for the tiny smart ForTwo two-seater compact car that you may have caught a glimpse of on Malaysian roads in the mid-2000s, then you are right. But then again, it is not the same smart brand that you may have known and this deal with Proton certainly does not involve any smart ForTwo or ForFour which were made by the brand when it was still a division of Mercedez-Benz. This is because the smart Automobile Company that we highlighted here is actually a new joint venture company between Mercedez-Benz and Geely. Announced in late 2019, the joint venture is focusing on the new generation of smart-branded electric vehicles that will be released in China as well as the global markets. Mercedes-Benz Design is responsible for the interior and exterior look of these new generation smart electric vehicles while their development and engineering are handled by Geely. Given Geely’s status as one of Proton’s parent companies, it is not hard to see why the Malaysian automaker was roped into this deal which will see Proton Edar becoming the importer, distributor, and dealer for smart cars in Malaysia and Thailand. Additionally, Proton Edar will also be responsible for smart’s after-sales services in both countries as well. While we are not going to see a mass-produced Proton electric vehicle through this deal, the brand’s Chairman, Syed Faisal Albar pointed out that it will still allow Proton to gain experience and build up the necessary skills that the company needs to be part of the New Energy Vehicle’s market in this region. No release timeline was mentioned in the announcement though but the wait shouldn’t be that long as Daimler and Geely have already planned to launch the first group of the new generation smart electric vehicles within this year.

Singapore Post is trying out PostPal, a “smart letterbox”, at two blocks in Clementi The one-year trial starts on Dec 18 at Block 202 Clementi Ave 6 The smart letterbox system will alert residents whenever they receive mail Residents may collect their items by scanning a unique QR code at the letterbox Residents at one housing block in Clementi will soon receive mail receipt notifications whenever mail has arrived in their letterboxes. They will also be able to check the exact number of mail items they have received. These residents may then retrieve their mail by scanning a unique QR code dynamically generated by the Singapore Post (SingPost) mobile application and scan it at the letterbox.These innovations are part of the services that come with PostPal, a new “smart letterbox” that SingPost unveiled on Thursday (Dec 3) and will try out at Block 202 Clementi Ave 6 for a year from Dec 18.PostPal will also be installed at Block 205 some weeks later as part of the trial.These blocks were chosen because they are representative of the average mail profile of public housing in Singapore, SingPost said. Hi, Just got my Jade in August. Having some problem with the doors. Advice appreciated. Problem 1. Car locked. Remote in pocket. Not able to unlock the door on the passenger side. Have to unlock the door from driver side. Once unlock from driver side, then only can be lock and unlock from passenger side. Once car locked, and walked away from car for 10 to 15 mins, cannot unlock from passenger side again (no response when holding on to the handle). Have to first unlock from driver side before the passenger side door work normally again. Problem 2. Boot door. Almost the same as above but with additional problem. Cannot lock with the button under the handle. When I pressed the lock button, no sound, no light, no function. When I pressed the unlock button, got sound, got light but cannot open the boot. All doors able to lock and unlock using the remote control Any bros with similar experience or can recommended workshop that can resolve the above issues.

Assuming his Managing Director pay is S$12,000, then 20 months would be S$240,000! And S$12,00 is just a modest estimation on my part. If that's the case, won't DBS suffer a loss? I mean, the purpose of retrenchment is to save costs, but by paying this guy S$240,000 in advance, what are they thinking?! DBS lose one-shot S$240,000 (20-months worth of salary) by sacking a staff and he don't even need to work at DBS anymore, and he gets free pay. If they keep him, they will only need to pay him S$12,000 a month and stil get his work contributions and results. If that's the case, why people can still cry when get retrenched? If it's me, I would be praying to the Heavens and hope my company retrench me ASAP, immediately if possible. That Managing Director must be laughing all the way to the bank. He don't even need to work for the rest of his life, assuming he sells his bungalow and buying 4-room flat and car(s), with his savings all these while and that S$240,000 goodie he received from generous DBS. Guys......looking around to join more forum chat topics and come to mind that there is no APP for MCF. Therefore, suggesting MCF to come up with an APP both IOS and Andriod, this way, most of us Bros and Sis can have them all on hand. Using mobile phone website to access is not convenient at all. Anyone support your ideas and we can feedback with MCF looking into it. Ideas can range from functions and designs or anything you may think off. Even if someone can contact MCF bosses. I am sure this can work somehow.....Cheers.

Hi bros/sis, I was at the petrol kiosk the other day and noted the selling of this "Avantree 4GS smart bluetooth headset" at $39.90. (attached image for reference) It didn't have any indication of A2DP (for media e.g music movie sound play back) but it did state Stereo music. So I was wondering if anyone have tried it as I am curious on: 1. Is it good in terms of sound quality? 2. Does it play back sound of movies, games etc? Thanks
