PhD student Abhishek Ambede shared pictures of the incident and told Channel NewsAsia the snakes were wrestling on the road beside a forested area. "Some of us working at RTP can see the site from our office. When we spotted the incident, I went down and noticed that the python had constricted around the cobra's head. ADVERTISING The tussle, witnessed by a large crowd, lasted for about 30 minutes before the snakes separated. "The cobra escaped to the bushes, leaving the python moving slowly on its own along the road." Mr Abhishek said he and other bystanders alerted NTU's pest control, as well as the Animal Concerns Research and Society (ACRES). Pest control officers removed the python, but were unable to locate the cobra. After 4pm, the cobra reappeared briefly. "It was about that time that ACRES appeared but by the time they arrived, the snake had disappeared again into one of the drainage holes," Mr Abhishek said. "ACRES told us they could not catch the snake if they could not see it. All we know is that there is no immediate danger. The only worry is that if it reappears on the road, there is a chance it might get run over," he added. Mr Satish Digen, a technical officer at NTU, said pest control officers put sulfur powder down the drains in an attempt to draw it out. The reptile eventually emerged from its hiding place at about 10pm on Thursday and was taken away in a bag by the pest control team. The NTU Graduate Student Council earlier urged those on campus to be on alert for the cobra. "Please be careful when you take the sidewalk near to bushes. After a virtual boycott by several manufacturers of its 2009 event, the Tokyo Motor Show will return in 2011. The Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association has decided that the show will begin on December 2nd, instead of its usual October start date. Media will be invited for advanced previews from November 30. That takes the Japanese showcase away from the Frankfurt Motor Show, and nestles it in between the Greater Los Angeles Auto Show and the North American International Auto Show. The relaunched show will take place at the Tokyo International Exhibition Center, also known as Tokyo Big Sight, a facility with 72290 m2 of exhibition space. From 1989, the show had been held at the much larger Makuhari Messe based in Chiba. That facility is nearly three times as large as the new location. Aside from the typical showcase and demonstration of the latest vehicles, the show may put increased emphasis on transportation in future societies. Size of glovebox for example... was checking out (for fun) citreon C6, and got a mild shock when i opened the glovebox!! ........ it's small, cant even put more than 3 apples inside!!! the Picasso also, same tiny glovebox, but at least the top of the dashboard can be flipped open and there is one shallow 'box' each on either side. my 6yr old jap car's glovebox is big enough for one loaf of roti (if i squeeze it a bit to fit in) do modern cars all come with such tiny glovebox (maybe because of passenger side airbag compartment?) ?? also, the C6 is selling around 130k (not the top model but comes with 1.6 turbo), hyundai's i45 is about the same price.... although i am not buying anything, but feel the C6 is better value for money

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a housing forum on Thursday morning, Dr Cheong noted that there were now fewer persons living in one flat which works out to increased living space per person. "Our families are smaller. In the old days, we have very large families living in a flat. Today, the family is two, three, four (people)." The size of HDB flats has shrunk by five to 10 per cent over the last 20 to 30 years. For example, a five-room flat in Bukit Batok Central built in 1989 has a floor area of 121 square metres, compared to 110 square metres for a similar unit built in 2003. Based on official surveys, the average household size was 3.5 in 2010, and 4.9 in 1980. This means an occupant in a 110 square metre five-room flat today will have 31 sq metres of space, while a resident in a 121 sq metres five-room flat in the 80s had only about 25 sq metres of space. Dr Cheong added that interior design also plays a part in creating good living space. "In many global cities of the world or big cities, people do pay attention to how they do the inside of the flat as well as optimising the use of furniture and storage. It can be a very comfortable living environment."

Just a thought..wonder why do smaller capacity cars say 1.6 and below like to put free flowing exhaust systems..I thought this would cause a loss in low end torque required for city driving? Even with tuning, gains aren't that much to make a huge difference also.. Cause I do see a lot of Honda Fits around with huge diameter mufflers, and then I recall they are 1.3 and they are auto..and I really wonder if there will be an improvement in drivability..

Honda rethinks its future product offerings Future automobile products are planned a few years in advance and with the volatile world markets these days the job of a product engineering team as well as a product planner is getting harder and harder. Autonews.com has a very interesting story they managed to squeeze out of Honda's management at the 2009 Tokyo show centering around one of Honda's most vital platforms – the Civic platform. The Civic platform forms the basis of other vehicles like the Stream, the CR-V, and even other Hondas not found in our market such as the Honda Element. The interview revealed that Honda's original intentions was for the next generation Honda Civic to be even larger and more plush than the current Civic, which has already grown to last decade Accord-ish proportions in terms of length and wheelbase. But that plan has been scrapped. Honda engineers have instead been told to make the Civic smaller and lighter. It's not 100% clear what this means – the Civic may not necessarily become smaller than the current generation. It could probably mean smaller and lighter than originally intended to be, which would hopefully put it around the same size as the current generation. Honda wants to try creating an increased perception of interior space but keep the exterior dimensions within control. Another rumour that surfaced a few months ago was that Honda could be splitting the Civic into two lines like Toyota's Corolla and Corolla Altis, a smaller one for Japanese tax regulations and a larger one for markets that like more metal for their money. But such a mid-way change has caused the project to be somewhat delayed. The current Civic has just been facelifted and a new one is supposed to arrive in 2011, a 5 year cycle after its introduction in 2006. But Honda is putting in more manpower to try to meet the target. If that doesn't happen, the Civic could be delayed for a year or so. Honda president Takanobu Ito admitted the team was struggling. This is not unprecedented, the previous generation Corolla Altis was also delayed and we still ended up with an all-new Altis that was pretty much a reskinned previous gen. Other new upcoming Honda products include the implementation of the hybrid IMA system across more models. Right now it is only available in small to medium cars – the Insight, the Civic Hybrid, and pretty soon the CR-Z. A hybrid minivan is coming – this could mean a few things such as an USDM Odyssey Hybrid or even a Stream Hybrid. Not much else was revealed about which minivan model. There used to be an Accord Hybrid but that was scrapped due to discouraging sales. But larger hybrid vehicles like the Accord Hyrbid is going to make a comeback soon. Honda revealed that a dual-motor IMA system is currently under development. The dual motor system will be configured in a way that it is able to function as an e-CVT in full electric mode, much like the series-parallel system in the Toyota Prius. This means Honda will have a two-prong hybrid strategy – a motor assist parallel mode hybrid system for smaller cars and a full hybrid series-parallel system that can be used in larger cars. A series-parallel hybrid is of course more costly and complicated to implement thus more suitable for larger vehicles that are able to carry higher price tags.

Hi Bros, Do you need to find tune the ECU if you use a bigger set of wheels? A friend of mine realised that after using 17" wheels for a while, his mileage count increase relatively rapidly. Once he has switched back to 15" wheels, he found that the milegae meter increase at a slow rate. Is there any truth in this? Regards,

I'm in the process of replacing my wife's Harrier (current model - 2003 reg) with a smaller SUV that is equipped with 4WD. In looking around, I have so far narrowed it down to 2 options - the new RAV4 from BM (PI version is with 2WD) and the new Mitsubishi Outlander (from PI, as C&C has not launched yet). Both are priced just under $90K, comes with a 2.4L engine, has realtime 4WD, and fairly large. The RAV4 looks gorgeous, whereas the Outlander has better technology and safety features, and also has the flexibility of a 3rd row (2 small seats - thus making it a compact 7 seater). Cannot make a decision, and welcome any comments/advice from bros from this Forum. Thanks.

Is it true that a car with a smaller engine capacity is more fuel efficient? Take the example of Toyota Passo. It comes in 1.0L and 1.3L versions. Given the same configurations except for the engine size, is the 1.0L more fuel efficient than the 1.3L? Please enlighten.

hi, check this out. my exhaust pipe somehow became broken and the longish pipe broke off from the main exhuast. hahhaa... actually, it was dangling, so went to take it out... fortunately didnt drop out while in the middle of expressway... found out still can drive ok... though some mechanics told me will be noiser and loss of power... so now not sure whether wan to spend $$$ to weld it back... hahaha... never knew such thing could happen to me... fei.

I am thinking of going for a 205/55 /15 from 195/60/15 which is abt 10-13mm smaller in overall diameter, how much will not speedo and tacho run?
