For those who like to take to the social media and air your displeasure whenever you encountered some annoying situation, is that all you can do? Let me introduce you to this short video... Please pause the video before the 0:50 mark, and think of what would you do if you face a similar situation as this guy... "Every night I would get an alert from my driveway security camera, and at first I was a bit annoyed, but then I found myself looking forward to the evening alert. And then inspiration struck, in the form of my wife giving me this great idea. What transpired has turned into the best part of an otherwise dreary pandemic summer," wrote CanyonChasers on his YouTube post. So what was his solution? Maybe you have already seen the whole video clip, but here's what he did, which has also won him a lot of praises from his neighbors and netizens. He painted a race track on his driveway with chalk so that the kid could follow and ride through it. Every time it rain and the "track" got washed off, he would paint a new and more elaborate one. He even started to put words of encouragement on it. The track soon proved to be very popular, attracting even adults to test their riding skill... The news and video eventually reach a senior executive at NBC, who reached out to both the YouTuber and the kid to give them NASCAR merchandise from official drivers. Talk about a happy ending for all! So the next time when an unpleasant situation pops up, give yourself a little time to think if you can transform your problem into something better, maybe not as interesting or entertaining as what this guy did, but at least something which could have save your day.

Dear Forumers Too many analysis on the COE trend with all kind of theory, assumptions and predictions. I would think the best is still for Forumers who patronized the car showroom to share and upload 1st hand information probably with photos, crowd condition, sale condition etc of each AD in systematic way. With the real field situation, it will be more useful for everyone to know how likely hood the demand of COE in coming months. Any suggestions?

Hi Bro, Please help. I am planning to change my 6yr old jap car to a cont. Seems like many ppl are going for resale but when I look carefully, new car seems to make more sense. eg. Golf new = ~$125k(ceo-50k) but 2yr old = ~$98k(coe-13k). So after some simple math, does NEW car seems to make more sense because I don't pay for others depreciation? Like to get some advice if I am thinking straight before jumping in and drown. Thanks

(by now i had the newspaper under one armpit, document under the other, one hand holding umbrella plus NTUC bag, the other house keys and computer bag, car key was held between my lips..... then the car key fell off my lips and onto the ground.............. bo bian, bent down to get it.... then newspaper also dropped from armpit, and followed by my clothing (was slung over my shoulder)........... all dropped and kissed the water puddle.... everything became soaking wet..... finally, KNN a car zoomed pass and i was covered in a big splash of water.............. DEFINITELY NOT MY DAY!!

Drove along Cluny Road about ten minutes ago. Curvy road, double-white lines. Right after a blind bend, there was an accident (truck langgar MPV). Drivers/passengers milling about on the road itself attempting to direct traffic, but pointless because you're basically on the accident scene before you see them. I advised one of the chaps there (a middle-aged Malay uncle) to put out a hazard triangle, then realised this was useless advice, because he would probably have done it if he had it. Anyway, please drive (especially) carefully there. I admit I had to brake quite hard because I was taking the curves in my usual spirited fashion. Lucky my brakes are good and my reflexes OK. EDIT: Forgot to mention, this is in the direction toward Bt Timah Rd (away from Holland Rd). But be cautious coming the other way too, because people may swerve trying to avoid the obstruction.

ST Forum Jun 3, 2011 Sad situation 'What has happened to our society? Where is the filial piety?' MR LOH CHEE KONG: 'I am writing with a heavy heart after reading Monday's report ('Dying alone'). What has happened to our society? Where is the filial piety to our elderly parents who brought us up with their sweat and tears? While some of these poor folk may have been single, what happened to their relatives? It is really sad that they had been abandoned way before they passed away. It is the responsibility of the children and the next of kin to give these people at least a decent burial. The parents of this generation had better train their kids well lest they too end in the same sad situation.'

Hi guys, my car just got hit at the back by another car... This is my 3rd accident for this car in 1 year. Bought it in Feb 2010 1st accident last year in May, got kissed at the back flatly by another car. Changed bumper and repair backdoor. took 2 day. 2nd accident last year in October, got hit by a truck pulling a trailer at left passenger door. Changed entire back door and back panels and bumper. Took 2 weeks for repair. 3rd accident tonight, April 2011, got hit at the back by a car. I didn't even e-brake.. the other driver says his car windscreen misty and he cannot see properly. He was looking at his rear mirror looking at the car behind him and next thing he hits me... Consolation is that all 3 accidents its not my fault.. unlucky thing is other vehicles just seems to hit my car for other reasons.. not once its due to my action like i brake or something. my wife is starting to freak out and asking me to change car.. quite funny as usually she ask me to buy cheapest car available. would you change car if the same thing happens to your car?

Hi, seeing how traffic is already bad and probably not going to get much better, especially traffic towards the business centers like CBD, etc, let's brainstorm on how to improve traffic situation in Singapore. My own opinion, which may not be a good idea but open for discussion, is that Singapore is so bloody small, so why must we designate like residential area (housing+malls) and business areas (CBD, Tampines, Business Parks, etc)? Why can't they just treat the whole of Singapore as a metopolis and allow big tall office buildings to be errected everywhere, maybe with the criteria that must be close to MRT stations. So eg, office buildings near every station that currently no office building nearby, just sell one plot of land near each station for erecting a couple of office buildings, instead of reserve everything for flats/condo/malls/shops. I do see offices at Toa Payoh, Bishan, Tampines, but I feel is not enough. Wouldn't this disperse out the businesses and traffic? And also make more people switch to use public transport or even walk to work? Of cos, I am not a qualified city planner, only played SimCity when young, so i won't know the issues and obstacles that comes with my idea, maybe by spreading will make more difficult for businesses to operate or other cons or devalue the CBD properties badly or inflat HDB prices etc?

Quoted from MBworld "Was at in n out with friend when a group of 10 or more guys around 20yrs old started talking smack about my car. Came up to me and choked me then started punching. i landed a few good blows but after they all came in i ran out the door. im 19 and didnt know any of these guys. I have a police report open to get them. luckily i live in a small town and found them all on facebook. Waiting till morning to get them." http://www.mbworld.org/forums/c-class-w204...d-over-car.html (Not me horr!! ) So what would you do in such a situation? Say you're alone and running is not an option.

I am a resident in Dover Road for over 30 years and am recently affected by the Enbloc/SERS upgrading and have to shift about 500m from my existing home to the new ones at Blocks 28A to D at Dover Crescent. I do not have any outstanding summons with the HDB nor do I own a vehicle. I love my home and the residents in the small area of Dover are a very closely knitted bunch. The HDB has inconvenienced and endangered residents, handicapped and pedestrians as well as other road users by using the Handicap Lots at Block 28C to dump sand and debris. This prevents the handicapped residents and members of the public from using the handicap lot. Residents in the process of moving and unloading do not have a proper space to park their vehicles to unload. The Loading and unloading Bay at Block 28C is fully blocked and taken up by the HDB contractor

If you have difficulty understanding the current world financial situation, the following should help... Once upon a time in a village in India, a man announced to the villagers that he would buy monkeys for $10. The villagers seeing there were many monkeys around, went out to the forest and started catching them. The man bought thousands at $10, but, as the supply started to diminish, the villagers stopped their efforts. The man further announced that he would now buy at $20. This renewed the efforts of the villagers and they started catching monkeys again. Soon the supply diminished even further and people started going back to their farms. The offer rate increased to $25 and the supply of monkeys became so little that it was an effort to even see a monkey, let alone catch it ! The man now announced that he would buy monkeys at $50! However, since he had to go to the city on some business, his assistant would now act as buyer, on his behalf. In the absence of the man, the assistant told the villagers: 'Look at all these monkeys in the big cage that the man has collected. I will sell them to you at $35 and when he returns from the city, you can sell them back to him for $50.' The villagers squeezed together their savings and bought all the monkeys. Then they never saw the man or his assistant again, only monkeys everywhere ! Now, welcome to WALL STREET. And now that is what's happening to the world finance crisis.... causing a big giant bubble brust....in thin air....... Cheers!

Hi guys, I was along Jln Eunos gg towards still road and at the junction of Changi Road, the scenario as shown in the pic below occurred. At the time, the light is green for the straight going, and red for those waiting to turn right at lane 1 and 2. I was driving along lane 3 all the while, with a white Mitsubishi infront (P plate with whole family sitting inside, crowded), and a taxi infront of the Mit. It was at a time when the taxi suddenly realized that he wanna turn right only as he get passed the end of the queue, and decided to just stop there, signal and wanted the van to give way to him. In this process, the whole of lane 3 was stuck, and it was impossible to go to lane 4 as traffic was very heavy. The van driver also quite guai lan and die die didnt wanan let taxi cut in. The taxi driver wound down his window and gestured (in a seemingly not so friendly manner) and only antagonized the van driver even more, causing him to edge very closely to prevent the cut. I found the whole situation very irritating and sounded a long horn TO THE TAXI. The taxi refused to barge.. eventually when the right turn arrow lit up, the taxi decided to just go forward and turn right anyhow making the car that was turning right then to do a preventive manouvre. I tot the whole episode was over then, and continued to drive forward with the Mit still infront.. nx thing i know, my gf said that the driver flashed me his middle finger and then the whole family keeps turning back to stare at me!! 1. Ehh.. concluded that the horn is not so discerning hor.. but the mit driver could have known that the honk is not directed at him? 2. Bloody right turning taxi could have just gone infront to make the U turn..which was not far away. Encountered this situation so often already.. always taxi... wtf...

Saw this on ST:- ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Living it up - but at what cost? Most youth today are inept when it comes to managing their finances By Tan Weizhen BEING financially free for the first time is a delirious experience. As young adults in our 20s and fresh out of school, the taste of a first full month's salary feels not unlike the freedom to do anything. So, we start eating out at expensive restaurants, buying brand-name items, maybe even a small car. Build a nest egg? That thought never crops up - not at least for one group which has been making the news. Going by a recent report in The Straits Times about under-30s today being the fastest growing group of debtors, it seems this set has gone a bit silly with their spending. Among defaulting on credit card bills, growing bankruptcy and gambling, young adults aged between 21 and 29 are notorious for living it up. The common reason given for getting caught in the debt trap: Materialistic desire for the high life, although most could not truly afford it. That need is driving us into a hole. Credit Counselling Singapore, which advises debtors, revealed that under-30s formed 9 per cent of all cases it handled in 2006, leaping to 15 per cent in the first three months of this year. This age group is also forming a bigger percentage of those who become bankrupt, says credit analysis firm Amequity. Talk about throwing it all away. Gaining more financial freedom, and not knowing how to manage it, is a lethal mix that is propelling young people on the highway to destruction. Personally, I have been guilty of overspending. When I first started earning money, I began to splash on expensive nights out. Weekly shopping sprees were a way to reward myself for working hard. Spa packages costing thousands of dollars? Not a problem, I simply whipped out my credit card. My friends were the same way. Frequent overseas trips - up to three times a year - were fairly common. One even bought a car shortly after starting work. Managed rightly, the empowerment of financial freedom can set us up for the future. Wrongly, and our mistakes will follow us into our 30s, 40s and even beyond. Yet this is what many young adults in their 20s are like: incapable of managing money, let alone be ready to get married and have babies. We are lost, all right. As a friend lamented to me, he does not know where his career is headed. His tuition fee loans have barely been paid off. The figures in his bank account are a joke. He is not sure whether that someone is special enough for marriage. How does the Government expect us to get married and have babies early, he asks? I can't help but agree. With newer and more responsibilities on the horizon, how can youth mature into adults, with their bank accounts intact? We need people with more worldly experience to impart it to us. Parents should be teaching children the value of hard work and thrift, from an early age. Schools should educate students on setting goals and making choices before they get pushed out into the corporate jungle. And perhaps companies could hold workshops or programmes to teach us how to manage or invest our money properly. Start the young early on how to live wisely and they will gain the advantage. Abby Wilner and Alexandra Robbins, authors of the book, Quarterlife Crisis, The Unique Challenges Of Life In Your Twenties, said that though the youth of the past faced the same questions as the youth of today, the difference is that this generation has a lot more options. The big question is: How to make the right choice from the myriad of options, and not have it haunt us for the rest of our lives? The 20-something years are when our ability to make decisions is drastically challenged. It is a phase filled with much turmoil, indecision and angst. In many ways, it is worse than adolescence. For me, it is the new adolescence. [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Time to do something if you are under this category...
