just realised that my driveshaft rubber boot was broken and will get the boot to be replace this weekend. need some advise from the members who experience such work before. do you see the mech remove the old grease and clean the joint before putting new grease? how did they clean the old grease? using karosene/diesel? I remember when i replace the driveshaft boot cover for my elantra last time, the workshop simply try to utilise back the old grease and add some red grease into the rubber boot which i dont think its advisable.... any advise?

Hi all, Im driving a Apr 06 1.8manual civic FD1. I went to do my 70k servicing at Spark Car Care at Braddell on 29mar tuesday. They said there's a minor leak at the bottom of my Crank Shaft Oil Seal & it will cost $214 & about 5-6 hrs to repair/replace. The service advisor say it usually happens when the car reaches around 100k or >100k is is fair or normal to charge $214 for Crank Shaft Oil Seal minor leak to repair/replace? Any cheaper & reliable workshop to repair/replace? tks for all your help

Hi Bros, I have a 10yr old Corolla (model ZZE121R) that has a knocking sound when turning + acceleration. By right it's the CV Joints. But when I checked with the stockists, (Ric Tat / Fong Tat), I understood that this car doesn't have CV Joints sold separately. It's a complete set with the Drive Shaft. Ok but the main problem is that they no longer carry this stock because they said lesser ppl are asking for this already. Does anyone knows how to go about replacing this part? Also, I'm looking for the "door stay" (small mechanism that acts like a absorber to prevent the door from swinging out). Can't find this part from the above 2 shops. But Ric Tat is ordering this in, in about 1-2 mths lead time.

Hi guys, Did anyone encounter this problem? Recently, during reversing, the shaft rotate make some obvious noise. Half turn also have this problem, shouldn't be tire rub against something. Moving forward no such problem. Can any expert tell me the problem? Thanks.

Superb Owners: Check Your Drive Shaft Before Expiry of Warranty
Koolaba posted a topic in Conti Talk
Hi all, The drive shaft covers of the Superb experience relatively fast wear and tear. If the warranty of your ride is approaching the end of warranty or the mileage is approaching 40000km, please get CA to inspect and change the drive shaft covers immediately. Alternatively, drive to a trusted mechanic to get a second opinion on the condition of the drive shaft. Tell-tale signs: Lots of oil deposit in the inner sections of the rim due to the leakage of oil from the broken rubber drive shaft covers. To confirm the condition, it is best to hoist the car up and do a visual inspection. I suspect that CA does not usually inspect the condition of the drive shaft when you send the ride in for servicing. Hence, damages (if any) are unreported. According to CAG, the possible causes of the accelerated wear and tear are: 1. High amounts of torque transfer from the 1.8T engine to the drive shaft 2. Rubber material which cannot withstand the humidity and heat of our climate Unlike Japanese rides, you will not experience pronounced knocking sounds from the worn drive shafts when you negotiate a turn. However, if the problem stays unnoticed, there will be possible damage to the continuous velocity (CV) joint. The cost of replacing the drive shaft covers including inclusive of labour at CAG amounts to $840. -
After 24 months, my Toyota Pinic gave me problems. I heard noisy sound from the front when I negotiated corners. BM found both drive shafts were faulty...replaced under warranty. I was lucky that this problem happened within the warranty period. I just hope this problem won't appear 2 years later. Many years ago, my Honda Civic also gave me this front drive shaft problems. It happened again for my second Honda Civic. Do front drive cars have this problem? Or only some models have this problem?

I'm in a bit of a dilema. I need to change my drive shaft. So far have changed to re-con drive shafts twice over the last 1.5 years. My mech mentioned that because sometimes i corner at fast speed, this damages the drive shaft. I'm considering getting brand new ones as i'm planning to keep my ride for the next 3 years. Any advise?

Hi, When to see the Aveo5 the other day. While I find the car is acceptable for the price but me and my wife can't accept the look of the manual gear shaft and knot. It was so Taxi look alike...... Is there any workshop that is able to change the whole shaft to a better looking one? I really can't stand the look of it. I asked, the SE at SA say not possible to change. So sad.

This shaft is the intermediate shaft connecting from the auto gearbox to the main drive shaft and appears a bit oily. I cleaned it and after driving, it's oily again. There is no drop in the ATF level (changed 8000km ago). Any idea if I should get it checked ?
