A Facebook user complained about the mould-stained facade of public housing blocks in the Anchorvale Parkview estate Sengkang Town Council said that the area is scheduled for repainting in the coming financial year and is trying to speed up the process Some residents also have to combat mould within their flats A building expert said that he cannot tell for now why mould seems to grow a lot faster at Anchorvale Parkview than other places SINGAPORE — In response to a recent and widely circulated online complaint about the mouldy state of Anchorvale Parkview's housing blocks, Sengkang Town Council said that the Housing and Development Board (HDB) estate is scheduled to undergo repair and redecoration works this coming financial year. The town council, which is run by the Workers' Party and looks after estate management matters there, told TODAY on Friday (Jan 6) that the call for tender for the repair and redecoration works at the neighbouring Anchorvale Cove cluster was closed on Dec 31, 2022 and a similar preparation for Anchorvale Parkview is ongoing. "We are working to see if the process can be expedited,” it added. The state of the outer facade of Anchorvale Parkview's housing blocks was made known on Facebook on Wednesday. A resident, who goes by the name “Jane Wendy” on Facebook, described how the block where she lives that is about five years old looked worse than a 30-year-old building. In her message accompanying some photos showing the state of the buildings, she said that her son continued to have “eyes allergies” and “nose issues” on top of having asthma and chronic hives, despite her efforts to dehumidify her home. She said that there is no mould inside the flat. The town council told her to wait for two more years until the housing blocks are given a fresh coat of paint, she added. TODAY has reached out to the resident for more comments. On visiting the estate on Friday, TODAY saw mould on the exterior walls of the housing blocks there. The town council offered an explanation: This may have been a result of paint oxidation emerging from the humid conditions of the estate’s surroundings. It said that it takes into consideration the feedback provided by the residents and “endeavours to improve on the quality of paint used at the next repair and redecoration of the estate”. MOULD WITHIN THE FLATS Five residents out of the 10 who spoke to TODAY on Friday said that they were not disturbed by the mould on the exterior walls. All but one of them have lived there since the Build-to-Order housing development was completed around 2017. In some cases, though, mould is persistently appearing indoors as well. A resident who wanted to be known as just Ms Lim, 33, said that the mould in her master bedroom was so bad that she had repainted it twice in fewer than five years, with dampness felt on the wall and mould growing within a year after repainting. She said that she has exhausted all ways to minimise the problem, such as by frequently ventilating the room, using anti-mould paint and by not using the air-conditioner to prevent possible water vapour condensing on the cooled walls. She has heard of a few other neighbours who have had mould in their flats. “I think it might be a structural thing, not just an exterior paint maintenance issue,” she suggested. Two other residents also have mould forming on the walls within their homes. Mr Alvin Mah, 36, said that HDB assigned a worker to help him repaint the house one time after he complained about it, while Mr Mohd Ramadan, 33, said that he repainted the walls himself. TODAY has reached out to HDB for comments. Mr Mah described the state of the blocks as “disappointing”. He said that an old housing estate where his mother has lived for more than 30 years was better maintained and looked better than his, though he did not want to say where that was. Mr Ramadan said that the mould, if left untreated, might work its way through the layer of paint that protects the building. “Over time, we might face problems like water seepage and so on,” he added. For Ms Iris Tan, a 31-year-old freelance content creator, she hangs her clothes indoors sometimes or else she takes her laundry to the laundromat about three times a week to dry her clothes. She does not want to hang them out the windows because the exteriors frequently get mouldy and rusty even after being cleaned. Ms Tan also said that she hardly opens the service balcony's window due to an unpleasant “damp” smell that wafts through her flat. Commenting on the mould-stained appearance of the housing blocks, Mr Boey Ngai Heng, 50, said that it is to be expected due to the humid weather in Singapore. “Every few years, the town council will paint the blocks new, so no need to worry,” he added. A 32-year-old resident who wanted to be identified as just Ms Wong said that she had noticed some mould since the second year she lived there, but shrugged it off as the “natural ageing” of the buildings. Even though she knew that mould could potentially be linked to certain medical problems, her two toddlers aged two and three years have not had any health concerns related to the fungal growth. Ms Jasmine Lai, 35, a resident of the neighbouring Anchorvale Clove estate, said that she was shocked by the mouldy condition of the blocks at Anchorvale Parkview. This was especially considering that they are close to each other and both areas are managed by the same town council. Earlier on Friday, Dr Jamus Lim, Member of Parliament in charge of the area, wrote a comment on Facebook addressing the complaint raised by Facebook user Wendy Jane. He acknowledged that the state of the block is “poor” and “does look older than it should”. Dr Lim said that he was not a building expert, but he was told that the choice of paint and the location of the building beside a river may be contributing factors. “We are working out a plan to accelerate the repair and redecoration works for this cluster,” he said, though necessary procedures such as the designing of the project and calling for open tender would mean that the matter “might not be addressed instantaneously”. Speaking to TODAY, engineer Chong Kee Sen, who is emeritus president of the Institution of Engineers in Singapore, said that mould is “always a challenge” for humid places such as Singapore. “It could happen to any other building,” he said, though he added that he was not able to ascertain, without more information on hand, why the mould seems to grow a lot faster at Anchorvale Parkview than some other places. https://www.todayonline.com/singapore/mould-sengkang-flats-anchorvale-parkview-estate-repair-town-council-2085916

https://lm.facebook.com/l.php?u=https%3A%2F%2Fmustsharenews.com%2F9-aircons-sengkang-flat Sengkang Resident Says He Needs Nine Aircons To Be Comfortable, Flat Above Must Mop Three Times A Day But a Singapore man takes the cake by reportedly using a total of nine aircons in his four-room Sengkang flat at the same time. This is because he’s a cancer patient and needs to be comfortable at home. However, this has caused some inconvenience to his neighbours in the unit above, who have to bear with condensation on their floors. The 64-year-old resident in question lives in a flat in Block 258A Compassvale Road, reported Shin Min Daily News. Identified only as Mr Huang, he said he was diagnosed with end-stage liver cancer in 2020 and had to sell off his house to pay for his treatment. Thus, he moved into his current rented flat in the block a few months ago. Upon moving in, Mr Huang installed nine aircon units in the flat, despite it only having four rooms. While there are two of them in the master bedroom, the other two bedrooms have “just” one each. The living room, however, has five aircon units. He paid S$13,000 to install the appliances. Mr Huang told Shin Min that the aircons are turned off when he’s not at home during the daytime. However, when he’s at home, he turns them all on at the same time, set to a frigid 18°C. He explained that the extreme temperature is due to the hot weather, and it’s how he can feel comfortable at home. As for his electricity bills, he claimed that they exceeded S$1,000 per month at the previous residences he’d rented. But he’s cut down a lot on his usage now, so his bill for last month was a comparatively cheap S$350. While many Singaporeans don’t wear much at home, Mr Huang apparently wears several layers of clothes due to the icy conditions in his flat. When a Shin Min reporter visited him on Sunday (21 Aug), he was wearing a green sweater over a blue long-sleeved shirt, and three or four layers underneath that. However, he was also wearing a pair of black shorts. The chill from his unit could be felt from the corridor outside. Mr Huang explained that he’s also afraid of the cold. But for the sake of his comfort, he apparently has no choice but to turn on the aircon and wear more clothes. He also said keeping the body warm would help improve his immunity — important due to his illness. For the full story, please visit the website above. TLDR: End stage cancer patient uses a total of 9 aircons in his 4 room hdb flat. Unit above have to mop the floor multiple times a day due to condensation. We are potentially looking at a system 5 and a system 4 installed in a 4 room HDB flat. This is just about the legal threshold of having two compressors in one space. I've read that cancer patients may experience hot flashes or night sweats as common side effects of cancer treatments or chemotherapy so that might explain the excessive number of aircons. But is there a need for 9 aircons though?

Some events are beyond our control, such as getting into an accident with another motorist, due to plain oversight on his part. However, if you were to get into an accident on your own like this Mitsubishi driver, then you only have yourself to blame: What Happened? A Mitsubishi Lancer EX was travelling on lane 2 along Sengkang East Drive when he veered off course, mounted the kerb and crashed into a lamp post, sending it to the ground. The driver then alighted from his vehicle to retrieve items from the back seat and boot of his car. After retrieving his items, the driver hurriedly flees away on foot. But Wait... Just when you thought it was over, the Mitsubishi driver does something else. After fleeing from the scene, the driver decided to "u-turn" and headed back to his car. He began searching high and low inside his car and the surrounding area while appearing to be looking for a specific item. Moments later, he ditches his car again and flees from the scene. Later in the morning, traffic police could be seen at the accident scene, surveying the surrounding neighbourhood and investigating the accident. The Possibilities In all honesty, accidents such as the above could only happen for two possible reasons: (1) Driving under the influence of alcohol; and/or (2) Driving under the influence of drugs. Moreover, the fact that the driver's first instinct was to retrieve his belongings from his car and flee makes him even more sus. Netizens' Comments Brace yourself, we will be hearing this song for a long time. Seems like I am not the only one who thought so. No CCTV also got dash cams and members of the public filming you. Sure tio caught within 24 hours (give or take)! ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Impatient and frustrated driver meets ‘guai-lan’ cyclist along Sengkang
thatJDMahboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Let’s be frank. Cyclists have made a notorious reputation for themselves over the years. They are known to be among the top cause of annoyance to motorists, which easily frustrates motorists when they encounter an errant cyclist on the road. Watch this video to find out what happens when an impatient driver meets a ‘guai-lan’ cyclist: What Happened? While travelling on a two-carriageway road, an SBS bus on the left lane switched on his right signal indicator after realising that a heavy vehicle was obstructing the lane. Just then, an errant Power-Assisted Bicycle (PAB) user who was lane-splitting in the middle of both lanes observed the SBS bus’ intention and proceeded to make an abrupt lane change without checking his side mirrors and his blind spot. The cyclist’s abrupt lane change alarmed the cam car driver, who was travelling in the right lane then. As a result, the cam car driver sounded his honk at the cyclist to alert him of his reckless manoeuvre. In response, the PAB cyclist threw an angry hand gesture to demonstrate his displeasure towards the cam car driver for honking at him. Following that, the cyclist began performing brake checks on the cam car driver and began riding at a slow pace. (Yes, I didn’t know brake checks were a thing for cyclists too) Not to anyone’s surprise, the cam car driver got impatient and frustrated at the PAB cyclist and began sounding long, consistent honks at the cyclist. Now, you would think that the cyclist has used up all the tricks up his sleeve after the angry hand gesture, the brake checks and riding at an extremely slow pace. Well, you are absolutely wrong! What he does next will make you marvel at how ‘guai-lan’ he can be — the PAB cyclist proceeded to disembark from his bike! Upon disembarkation, he kicks his bike stand and leaves his bike in the middle of the road with his arms folded before taunting the cam car driver to get past his man-made obstruction. Shortly after performing his ‘winning’ move and posing for the camera, he throws another angry hand gesture at the cam car driver before zipping away on his PAB. Latest Update Additional clips of him behaving like a road menace and committing multiple offences have surfaced on the internet. Watch it here: Netizens’ Comments Wise words from a concerned netizen. Seems like this PAB cyclist have developed quite a reputation in the Sengkang/Punggol area🤔 This fella here wants to fight fire with fire😱 ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news, and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. Mitsubishi Lancer and Audi TT survive one close shave!
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Now that is one close shave. As seen on SG Road Vigilante's facebook page, an Audi TT failed to stop at the give way line, nearly crashing into a Mitsubishi Lancer Ex which had the right of way on 29th of April Eagle-eyed readers would have definitely spotted the P-plate sign on the Audi, signaling to us that this might just be a rookie's honest mistake. In our opinion, we thought the camera car would have gotten a larger shock, seeing the Lancer swerve into his lane along Sengkang West Road. On another note, should the Lancer have slowed down instead of (recklessly)accelerating into the camera car's lane? Let us know in the comments below! 94921823_310296959954310_3878032568351719424_n.mp4 -
Sick of getting dings and other minor damages from the doors of cars that are parked beside you? Someone definitely is and reckons he has the perfect solution for this issue. Yup, someone has bought a tent and erected it on the second-highest floor of his estate's Multi-Storey Car Park(MSCP). Situated at Block 146 Rivervale Crescent, someone spotted and reported this unusual sight to Stomp on 8 December, adding on that "It was secured by padlock but there was nothing inside the tent." A sign that said 'Out For Lunch" can also seen inside the bright pink tent. Gone A few days later, the owner of the tent wrote to Stomp and said he was shocked when he found it missing. He then explained that the tent was bought for $500 from China and was there to protect his car from being scratched. "I developed a phobia of carparks after my car was scratched twice at my workplace's carpark," he remarked. His tent was believed to have been removed on the 10 December. Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council (PRPTC) got rid of it as its spokesman claims that it is a security concern.

Hmm.... I am trying to understand why the victim was not sent to the hospital in Sengkang which is only minutes away. E-scooter woman rider taken to hospital after being hit by a lorry in Sengkang SINGAPORE - A 34-year-old e-scooter rider was taken to hospital after she was hit by a lorry in Sengkang on Monday (Aug 27). Police said they were alerted to an accident involving a lorry and an e-scooter at 9.47am at the junction of Sengkang East Road and Sengkang Square. According to Chinese daily Lianhe Wanbao, the woman was on her way back from buying groceries at the market. She had stopped her e-scooter at a traffic junction and was waiting to cross the road when she was hit by the lorry. An eyewitness told Wanbao that the woman's arms and legs were bleeding and she was unable to move. There was an accident involving 2 trucks at sengkang (near anchorvale link) at around 5.27am today. One is cement truck and the other is rubbish truck. The rubbish truck overturned and landed on the pedestrain pavement and knocked down one of the traffic light. The sound of the above accident was so loud that i thought there was a bomb. Went to the window and saw nothing and only saw what happened when i went to work at 7.30am as the view of heavy vehicles was out of sight from my window. Then around 5.45am, around accident at the same junction - taxi and a car. I think this may be due to one of the traffic light that has been knocked down. No one is injured in this accident i think. Does anyone know whether there is any injury to the rubbish truck driver? I see no tent or hear any ambulance siren.

Best route with lesser traffic is via which road?

I heard ambulance siren and looked out of the window and saw an accident involving a van and a motor at 7.45am. Saw ambulance attendants using a white sheet to cover the body. The body was beside the motor. The driver of the van was a bangadesh in his mid 20s. Anyone have further details? Cos i saw 2 ambulances and saw 1 ambulance left and 1 ambulance stayed.
