  1. Turf City closes on 31 December 2023. Been visiting Turf City since it became a commercial mall, first batch of tenants included Mcdonald's and Watsons. Over the years, tenants have included Giant, Jack's Place, Owen Seafood, Tung Lok etc and of course the massive car mart. Used to meet up with friends just to walk along the rows of cars. Reckon Turf City means different things to different people given the variety of activities available; makan, cars + accessories, sports, grocery shopping, furniture shopping, child enrichment etc. Perhaps share share Turf City stories here ?

  3. Bros , I have always been going to JB.. But I still dont know where to go for good seafood.. Many told me Kukup.. But I did not like it there.. So bros, tomorrow I will be going to hit the roads to JB again.. With some friends... So any nice Halal seafood restaurant to recommend? I wont mind even if it is at Muar.. But arounf JB will be the best... If possible , tell me the exact place.. Coz I will be relying on my dear Garmin.. Thanks..
  4. Come June, however, one of its outlets will be shutting for good. Famous for its bright red signboard and spacious carpark, Long Beach King – located near the Singapore Sports Hub – will close in about 3 months’ time when its lease expires. Long Beach Kallang outlet will close in Jun 2021 According to Lianhe Zaobao, Long Beach first moved to the location in Kallang in 1985, some 36 years ago. Some time after, the outlet moved to East Coast after its lease expired. In 2008, Long Beach King moved back to Kallang, and has been operating there ever since. However, operations will cease come June when the restaurant shuts for good. Besides the delicious seafood dishes, long-time customers of the restaurant will certainly miss the huge crimson logo and the spacious carpark outside. The place was reportedly a popular spot for family gatherings in the 80s and 90s. 4 other outlets remain after closure If you plan on visiting Long Beach King before its closure, here are the deets you’ll need: Long Beach King Address: 220 Stadium Blvd, Singapore 397803 Opening hours: 11am–2.30pm, 5pm–11.15pm daily Nearest MRT: Mountbatten Station After the closure in June, Long Beach will still have 4 other outlets islandwide. Upon closing, all employees currently working at Long Beach King will be transferred to their latest outlet at Robertson Quay, reports Lianhe Zaobao. Have their signature crab dishes at other outlets The closure of Long Beach King certainly comes as sad news for customers who have patronised the outlet for decades. Though the red signboard will be a thing of the past, fans can find comfort in the fact that its signature dishes like chilli and black pepper crab are still available at the remaining outlets. The sight of an old man in Chinatown shivering while trying to sleep moved Mr Francis Ng to action last week. Since last Thursday (Jan 4), the restaurant owner has been giving out blankets to those sleeping on the streets, mainly in mature estates such as Tiong Bahru, Redhill and Toa Payoh. He estimated that he has given out more than 100 blankets so far. They cost around $10 per piece. In the early hours of a rainy Saturday morning (Jan 13), The Straits Times followed Mr Ng, 44, on his solo mission to do good. In about an hour, he delivered nine blankets in Chinatown to mostly elderly men. Some of them lie on benches and reclining chairs, while make do with a piece of cardboard on the ground. The heartwarming act came amid the cool spell in recent days.

With a growing population in the area and more recreational facilities coming up, some tenants say they are not too concerned about the so-called far-away place, though others add the lack of public transport to the area is a concern. Talks are ongoing to start a shuttle bus service from the nearby Punggol MRT station. "Many of the tenants are already operating right now. The rest are finalising their renovations and they should be operating soon,” said Sean Fong, marketing agent of Punggol Settlement. He added that the public can experience “full seafront dining at all restaurant units." "Many years back, there were a few popular restaurants here and they were selling seafood,” said Francis Ng, owner of House of Seafood. “I hope I can bring back those memories to those youngsters.   12. after the great earthquake that struck japan last year and japan released over 11million litres radioactive waste into the ocean which the water can flow anywhere and infected the marine life with nuclear radiation, and also the ocean is a place where people harvest for seafood. this is worrying as people will unknowingly eat the seafood which are radioactive. japan nuclear waste

  15. Published on Dec 8, 2011 Officers from the Singapore Civil Defence Force recovered a body from the shores of East Coast beach on Tuesday. The body, believed to be that of a 60-year-old Chinese man, was first spotted floating off the beach near the East Coast Seafood Centre. He was clad in a green T-shirt with stripes, black bermudas and black shoes. Shin Min Daily News reported on Wednesday that he was also bleeding from his eyes and nose. CNA Expat alleges overcharging by Boat Quay seafood restaurant By Leong Wee Keat, TODAY | Posted: 17 June 2011 0632 hrs SINGAPORE: Company director Ian McArthur could hardly believe his eyes when he saw the bill for lunch with his friend on Wednesday: It came up to $1,107.32, including S$348.80 for a 1.6kg lobster and $564 for a 3kg crab. The Scot, who has been working here since last October, told TODAY: "I thought, 'It must be wrong. I can't believe this.'" Mr McArthur then approached the staff of Forum Seafood Village - a restaurant at Boat Quay - seeking an explanation. He was told that those were the market prices. But Mr McArthur told TODAY that the staff did not inform them how much the crustaceans weighed or the total cost before cooking the food. "It wasn't just the price. We feel that we were misled that's why we were upset about it," he added. Apart from the king crab and lobster, Mr McArthur and his friend had a plate of fried rice and four glasses of beer. Alleging that he was "grossly overcharged", Mr McArthur filed a complaint with the Consumers Association of Singapore (CASE) on Wednesday against the restaurant, seeking a S$900 refund. But Mr Vincent Hoh, a restaurant employee who served Mr McArthur, said he told the diners the crustaceans' weight. When asked if he told the diners the total cost of the crustaceans, Mr Hoh replied he did not. Forum Seafood Village manager Jo Chia said the restaurant does not usually inform diners of the total price of their seafood, unless diners ask for it. Said Ms Chia: "We tried to tell customers (the total price) but some guests say it's too troublesome and tell us not to bother them." Some patrons have also commented that, by informing them of the total price, the staff would be suggesting that they could not afford it, Mr Hoh said. Ms Chia pointed out the restaurant's seafood prices are listed clearly - according to cost per 100g - at the restaurant's entrance and on the menu. "Our prices are market prices. We won't overcharge our customers," she said. Ms Chia said the restaurant's owner is overseas and has not decided on its course of action with regard to the complaint. Forum Seafood Village, which operates two outlets along Boat Quay, charges S$21.80 per 100g for the Australian lobster and S$18.80 per 100g for the king crab, after discounts. The usual prices were S$32 and S$25 per 100g for the lobster and king crab, respectively. A check with neighbouring restaurants found one restaurant charging S$18.80 per 100g for the Australian lobster and another charging S$10 per 100g for Alaskan King Crab. Responding to TODAY's queries, CASE said it has received 12 complaints for overcharging by food and beverage outlets in the first five months of this year. Tay Ee Tiong, 55, owner of Wealthy Seafood Product and Enterprise, is the first to be charged, following a 2009 probe by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau into more than 20 top chefs who allegedly accepted the kickbacks. Tay, who faces 223 charges, is said to have given bribes of between $232 and $24,143 between 2006 and 2009 to chefs of popular Chinese restaurants and five-star hotels to advance his company's business by ensuring that they continued to buy seafood products from his company. The chefs were from 17 restaurants. Among them are PFS Pte Ltd, Shangri-La Hotel, Meritus Mandarin, Marriott Hotel, Goodwood Park Hotel, Grand Hyatt, Four Seasons Hotel, Sheraton Hotel and Por Kee Eating House. In 11 charges, Tay allegedly conspired with Leung Wing Hoi, then Shangri-La's Chinese banquet chef, to hand over bribes amounting to $32,137 to its executive chef Peter Tsung Kang Hung between 2007 and 2009, to advance Wealthy Seafood's business interest. Mr Choo Si Sen is representing Tay, who is on $30,000 bail. The case was adjourned to April 21 for a pre-trial conference. If convicted, Tay faces a fine of up to $100,000 and/or a jail term of up to five years on each charge. Seems like the chefs didn't bother to feed the juniors, hence kena reported to CPIB.
  19. Hi guys, I be driving and on the way back from KL to singapore, anyone can recommend a place for good seafood? be it at Muar, Batu Pahat or Pontian, hope I spelled them all correctly. Best if the place have 1 or 2 interesting place to visit, not necessary though, food is the top priority TIA

  21. it seems like we are getting left right and centre from seafood paul the octupus and expensive seafood meal i think locals need to get used to the idea that when we become first world country food prices will also be first world type if you go to an expensive restaurant you expect to pay eg if you go to lees amis do you expect to eat a $40 steak ... NO of course the appetizer may be afew dollars these people when they complain are either embarassing themselves or making a big fool of themselves or worse both 8 July 2010 Straits Times Mee pok for family meal? $234 MY FAMILY had a similar experience at Super Peking Duck Imperial Treasure on Mother's Day as reported last Thursday ("Flap over a fish... that costs $1,224"). We were having lunch and wanted to order seafood hor fun to complement the meal which cost about $25. The waitress informed us that they had run out of the dish and suggested we try the mee pok, one of their signature dishes popular with many of their customers. While waiting for our food, we noted that there was a lobster dish yet to be served. We highlighted to the waiting staff that we did not order any lobster dish. The waitress came and said that the mee pok came with the lobster. We said we had no idea that the noodles came with lobster and that it would cost $234. We asked for the order to be cancelled. However, she said we could no longer cancel it. When we asked why the price or the fact that the dish contained lobster was not communicated to us, the waitress said that it was not their policy to state the prices of their dishes unless asked. If lobster was the main focus, should this not have been highlighted to us? Even the way the dish was recommended to us emphasised the noodles. Penny Ong (Ms)

Wondering whether those folks caught on Melben Candid Camera would dare to appear there or any of their outlet again. For those who thinking of attempting to pull the same trick, suggest you don't do it cos there are camera there

  25. Anyone know where in HK can buy cheap dried scallops, oyster, abalone.... besides Bonham West? That place I find it a bit tourist orientated thus price might not be cheap, though things r cheaper than in SG.
