  1. Long-range electric GT is almost production-ready; IP goes up for sale as parent company falters Source: https://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/new-cars/nevs-emily-gt-saab-engineers-shock-621-mile-ev NEVS, the electric car company born from the ashes of Saab more than a decade ago, has revealed the sophisticated model it was developing before its Chinese owners put it in “hibernation mode”. The Emily GT is claimed to be capable of driving more than 1000km (621 miles) between charges, thanks to a huge 175kWh battery. Battery capacities of 140kWh and 105kWh were also planned, as was 11kW wireless charging via a pad connected to a fixed hub. In-wheel motors making 121bhp are mounted at each corner, giving the Emily GT 484bhp in total. Each motor sandwiches a drive unit between the alloy wheel and the aluminium brake disc, reportedly giving finer control of torque vectoring. Such was the extent of the vectoring that the car could turn without using the steering wheel. Emily programme director and former Saab engineer Peter Dahl told Swedish publication Carup: “The possibilities for torque vectoring are fantastic. All torque can be controlled. It’s like changing from straight slalom skis to carving skis. "In addition, the wheel motors ensure that all backlash is eliminated, resulting in an incredibly direct and solid feeling. “On the downside, the unsprung weight on each wheel is higher. We have solved that with a good chassis with air suspension and active dampers.” A high-performance variant of the Emily was also in the pipeline, with planned outputs of 653bhp and 1623lb ft. This would cut its 0-62mph sprint time down from 4.6sec to 3.2sec. The striking styling – which bears a strong resemblance to the final Saab 9-3 and Saab 9-5 – is reported to have been penned by an unnamed Italian and refined by former Saab designers. NEVS' owner, the Evergrande Group, originally signed off a run of 20 prototypes. However, Evergrande – which made its fortune as one of China’s most prolific property developers – hit financial problems in 2020, and only six were built. Evergrande put NEVS into "hibernation" last month, having failed to secure a buyer. Of the Swedish firm’s 340 employees, 320 were laid off. Polestar signed a lease for part of NEVS' Trollhättan factory, which was formerly home to Saab, according to a statement from the Swedish city. The Volvo spin-off will use the facility as an R&D base for its future EVs. New NEVS CEO Nina Selander is now seeking a buyer for the Emily project and has encouraged interested parties to contact the company. “It's for sale. It's also a joy to be able to show it,” she told Carup. Dahl added that the project is about a year and a half away from being production-ready. He said: “Everything is in place to take it further into production. The prototypes are completely drivable, except that the airbag and auto-braking systems are missing.” The Emily prototypes use a 52kWh battery from the NEVS 9-3, an electric conversion of the Saab of the same name.

    RIP Saab

Saab Files for Bankruptcy After All Rescue Plans Fail, This Could be the End It is sad news for the automotive world to learn of the demise of a company. Unfortunately, Monday December 19, will mark the end of the road for Swedish carmaker Saab
  5. Intend to get a Saab 9-5 yr 06, wondering any member here drove one? Would need your feedback of this car regarding maintenance cost, car breakdown frequency, electronic malfunction or etc... Thanks
  6. I am thinking abt going for the above. However, I am having concern on it's parts availability and reliability. Anyone with experience can share info on this? By the way, what is the difference between the pre facelift and facelift one apart from asthetically different?
  7. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.php?ID=402162&DL=2011 Eurokars pre-owned must be out of their f**king mind. Who would want to buy a used Saab 9-5 at 168k? The reason why anyone would buy a used Saab is because the first owner would have made a loss of 50k. It's not as if this car commands the price tag of a BMW or Mercedes so I'm curious as to why it's priced so high. The most a used Saab should depreciate by is 6-7k per year because there is absolutely no body value for the car when the car is sold. It's a good car but it just ain't worth that kind of money.
  8. this morning while my daughter was boarding the mrt, this TKB shoved her way through the platform and into the train with her mighty power and caused my daughter to fall. Other commuters were quick to help my daughter up and admonished her for the non gracious act. Did she care? I really dont think so.....haiz,
  9. Hi guys, Any swedish experts here can advise on these 2 models 1. Volvo V50 T5 - Asking $63,800, Reg Dec 2005 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...925&DL=1354 2. Saab 9-3 SC - Asking $62,000, Reg Mar 06 http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...725&DL=1000 Both these cars are very similar, around same age, depreciation also around the same. I have listed some concerns here, any Swedish car fans can further advise? 1. Based on selling price, Volvo depreciation @ $8,500 and Saab @ $8,300. Volvo road tax higher. 2. Performance wise Volvo better than stock Saab?? 3. Fuel consumption? - not too sure on this 4. Maintenance - Saab, now owned by Spyker, and Volvo, Geely. How's the maintenance of a 4 year old unit for both makes. I will think that Volvo being more common, maintenance should be better than Saab? How about availability of parts. TIA
  10. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOzjcEq526I Chinese carmaker, BAIC, has engaged Hollywood actor, Nicolas Cage, to star in a commercial for the brand new Senova D Series. "We choose Nicolas Cage as the spokesman for our high end brand 'Shenbao' not only because he is an Oscar-winning actor and a screen legend, but, more importantly, because he has starred in a series of action films about cars," said an official in BAIC's Marketing Department. The Senova D Series is based on the SAAB 9-5 platform. In 2009, BAIC bought Saab's production lines for the first generation 9-3 and 9-5, which had an estimated worth of US$200 million(S$250 million). However, BAIC did not acquire the right to use the 'Saab' name. 'Shenbao' is the Chinese name for Saab in Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. The Shenbao D-Series is available with three turbocharged engines, namely a 1.8-litre with 180bhp, a 2.0-litre with 204bhp and a 2.3-litre with 250bhp. The engines are mated to a five-speed tiptronic transmission with paddle shifts.
  11. Saab 9-5 LPT Previous owners or enthusiasts any views?
  12. But it will never happen.
  13. looks. Like. Saab 9-3 and opel insignia are price the same as a volvo 1.6 t4. Which would you go for ? assuming road tax is not an issue.
  14. Sometime in the middle of this year, assets to defunct Swedish automaker, Saab, was bought over by a Chinese-Swedish group National Electric Vehicle Sweden and the group planned to produce electric versions of Saab vehicles. At that time, National Electric Vehicle Sweden did mention it will take them at least eighteen months to produce and sell an electric Saab which was rumoured to be based on the Saab 9-3. And it seems now, that the group is trying to re-launch the 9-3 with an internal combustible engine instead. You might wonder, why won
  15. The Saab name might be no more and it seems like the saga that has embroiled the Swedish automaker is going to come to an end. But that might not be the case because BMW has sued Saab Automobile Parts AB for unpaid deliveries. BMW has filed a US$3.2 million lawsuit at a Swedish district court against Saab Automobile Parts AB, the parts division of the now bankrupt automaker, for receiving parts and other engine components. The original agreement between the two companies was signed in September 2010. In the agreement, it states that Saab Automobile AB will acquire engine parts and other components from BMW and also in the same agreement, Saab will work with BMW to develop and continue using a four cylinder engine for the Saab 9-3 sedan provided by BMW. This lawsuit might encounter some problems. Firstly, Saab is bankrupt and has a debt of around US$2 billion and with only US$500 million worth of assets. Another interesting thing is that Saab Automobile Parts CEO, Lennart Stahl, has stated that Saab Automobile Parts never ordered or received parts from BMW and he felt that the company should not require paying the US$3.2 million amount. BMW has spent the last one and a half years chasing Saab for the unpaid bill and Saab clearly does not have the funds to repay the German automaker. When Saab filed for bankruptcy, the company made its parts division as collateral to get state-backed guarantees for its loans in the European Investment Bank. Some of us would remember that recently, Spyker launched a US$3 billion lawsuit against General Motors. Spyker claims that General Motors forced the Swedish brand to go under. And another interesting report is that the company which reportedly has bought Saab, National Electric Vehicle Sweden, has not close the deal yet and it might take several more months for it to happen. No reason was given on why the deal has not been completed. It is clear that we are going to hear more interesting reports about the Swedish automaker in the near future. Photo credit: Net Car Show
  16. [extract] Sometimes the dead is unable to rest in peace. In this case, Saab, and its owner, Dutch company Spyker has decided to sue General Motors for the sum of US$3 billion. Spyker/Saab wants compensation for the actions of General Motors (GM) blocking the use of GM technology in Saab cars. GM was basically worried that Saab/Spyker
  17. Many would have already known about Saab's bankruptcy and the following aftermath. After the Swedish company filed for bankruptcy, several companies have made bids for the ailing company's remaining assets. They include China's Youngman, and India's Mahindra Mahindra and Tata Motors. And it was also reported that the company has a total debt of around $1500 million. In the latest twist to the Saab saga, a Swedish workers union, IF Metall, has send a letter to the United States president, Barack Obama, requesting for help in order to save the once proud Swedish marque. Most people might think that they are requesting for a bailout, like what happened to Chrysler. Instead, they want the United States government to pressure General Motors into releasing access to some of the technology licenses which are necessary to build the Saab 9-4X (pictured above) and the 9-5. By doing so, the Swedish automaker's new owners would be able to build Saabs once again providing salvation for over 4000 of Saab
  18. Looking for a short term ride... from 2003 - 2005 Saab As a guide, dealer is selling at $5k+ depreciation but taking in your car at very low price... I would offer about $4k+ to $5k depreciation thereabouts... which i feel is fair enough.... PM me if selling. Prefer to deal with direct owners as i would like to know the service history as it is my first venture into conti ride
  19. [extract] We all know that Saab has filed for bankruptcy and the future of the Swedish automaker is uncertain. Swedish laws allow a bankrupt company to come out of bankruptcy if someone or some company injects the necessary amount of money in order to save it. There were reports that the Turkish government might be interested in the Swedish company. And at the same time, Chinese company Youngman has acquired Saab
  20. As I write this article (27/12/11), there will be only a few days left to 2011. Many things have happened in the automotive industry in 2011. This is not a list of the best or worst of 2011 in the automotive industry but more like a recap of some of the incidents/news that took place in the automotive world in 2011. Japan earthquake and tsunami catastrophe The 9.0 magnitude earthquake that happened in Japan on 11 March 2011 caused extensive damage to a lot of things. Not only properties and infrastructures were damaged, a significant number of human lives were lost as well. It was further made worse by a tsunami which was triggered by the earthquake. Video footage and images of people running to save their lives were broadcast on the news and it was a painful moment for everyone in the country. The earthquake also damaged a nuclear power plant which emitted harmful levels of radiation after that. On the business side, many automakers suffered huge losses when the earthquake and tsunami destroyed their manufacturing plants and new cars. Several of them had to shutdown their manufacturing operations and it took them months to get back at the same level before the disasters occurred. Toyota
  21. Recently I wrote about what has and might happen to Saab after a Swedish Court declared the company bankrupt. Two parties have expressed interest in the company. One of them was the Chinese automotive company, Youngman and the other was the Turkish government. There are several other things that I have added in that article. Firstly, what will happen to existing inventories (new unused cars, spare parts, etc.) and also whether existing warranties will still be in use? Now after more than a week after Saab went bankrupt, several incidents have transpired. Firstly, Youngman (the same company that tried to save the Saab name) has purchased Saab

  23. The news that Saab has declared bankruptcy must have sent a tinge of sadness through any petrolhead's veins. After all, any car lover worth his salt wouldn't like to see a carmaker die, let alone one with the heritage of Saab. The Swedish brand has had a tumultuous year, with more ups and downs than a Taiwanese serial drama. But the latest news unfortunately seems to mark the end of this marque with almost 65 years of history. The sad bit is, it wasn't really Saab's fault in the first place. Most of the damage was done when Saab was under the ownership of General Motors, whose American corporate mismanagement in the 90s and early 2000s left the poor Swedes to soldier on with one main model for over a decade, the 9-5. Then it tried to rectify things by hastily offering rebadged versions of other GM cars, which was a ploy that failed terribly, and further eroded consumer confidence in the brand. By the time GM disposed of Saab in 2009, the brand was already on its last legs, as it struggled to seek new buyers and funding. The new 9-5, launched in 2010, offered a glimmer of hope, but new owners Spyker simply could not cope with the financial burden, and once again, tried to entice investors into the brand. After plenty of to-ing and fro-ing between several parties, Saab looked to have been handed a lifeline when two Chinese companies showed their interest. But just when it looked like sunny days were back again in Trollh
