there would probably be inspectors at discos with a rhythm timer. 😁 Chechnya bans dance music that is either too fast or too slow The Russian republic of Chechnya has banned dance music it deems either too fast or too slow, in an attempt to quash a “polluting” western influence on the conservative majority-Muslim region. Musa Dadayev, the culture minister, said “all musical, vocal and choreographic works should correspond to a tempo of 80-116 beats per minute” to make music “conform to the Chechen mentality and sense of rhythm”, according to the Russian news agency Tass. “Borrowing musical culture from other peoples is inadmissible,” Dadayev said. “We must bring to the people and to the future of our children the cultural heritage of the Chechen people. This includes the entire spectrum of moral and ethical standards of life for Chechens.” According to reports in Russian media, Dadayev set artists in the region a deadline of 1 June to rewrite any music that does not conform to the rule. The law in effect criminalises most modern dance music genres that are typically played in clubs around the world, such as house, techno, dubstep or drum’n’bass. Some hip-hop and rap, which is typically played at speeds between 60 and 140 beats per minute, would in theory still qualify for the traditional Chechen “sense of rhythm” that the regime of the authoritarian leader, Ramzan Kadyrov, wants to preserve. Traditional Chechen music includes khalkaran yish – instrumental songs used to accompany dances, processions and horse races – and heroic epic ballads known as illi yish. They can be accompanied by the dechig-pondar, a three-stringed instrument similar to the Russian balalaika. Chechnya, in the North Caucasus region of eastern Europe, has in recent years been repeatedly criticised by human rights organisations for its violent persecution of sexual minorities. The Chechen government has denied such allegations, claiming there were no homosexual people in Chechnya, and those who did exist would be rooted out by their own families.

We have no idea what to make of this. Shot on the 3rd of October 2020 at the junction of East Coast Road and Siglap Road, an accident occoured between a blue Mazda3 and a couple of motorcyclists. As we can see from the video posted by SG Road Vigilante, the Mazda simply veered slowly out of his lane before crashing into a Deliveroo and McDonalds delivery rider who were waiting to do a right turn at the junction. We are ashamed to say with it happening all very leisurely, the whole incident did looked slightly funny. Our apologies! Could the driver have fallen asleep while driving slowly or was he just playing with his phone and not concentrating on where he was going?

I see that there are some retired people in MCF. I am wondering how much do a person need to retire and support what sort of lifestyle? For my case, I am thinking like 1 paid freehold terrace house and 1 paid 99yr condo at maybe AMK area. 1 paid car. 200k cash. Then I will "retire" by getting a simple, stress free job that pays maybe 4k/month, enough to cover my expenses, travel twice a year. The condo can rent out and be sold when my single kid needs to go uni. When my kid get married, sell off the terrace and get 2 small place and rent one out. u you guys think it is enough to retire like that? please note I am not going to full retirement but rather getting a simpler job so I will probably still get some income.

Liddat how? Do you just wayang when driving with them and unleash when solo? p.s. also applies to vice versa i.e. you feel that you are safe driver but CO complain you drive too slow Just a lighthearted post not meant to start any heated debates or flame wars. Hope you enjoyed your labour day! peace out

2years old mazda 3 got slow charging battery, normal?
Mangos posted a topic in Maintenance & Repairs
Hi guys, I'm a new driver and just bought a 2nd hand Mazda which is close to 2 years old and close to 20k kms. So I sent it to Mazda service centre to do the 20k service this morning after driving it for a few days which I didn't notice any problem with the car. I just got a call from the Mazda technician telling me that the battery is charging very slowly and they suggest to replace it with a new one at the cost of S$145. I have very little knowledge about cars but after google a little bit I think the price is higher than purchasing from 3rd party but that I can accept since everything from the original manufacturer is more expensive than from open market. But a faulty battery on a 2 years old car, is that reasonable? how long does car batteries usually last. And any suggestions for a newbie on (consumable) car parts purchases in Singapore? And any recommended service/repair shop after warranty is over? or shall I stick to Mazda for service/repair? I live in Choa Chu Kang and work in Clementi so any suggestion closer will be appreciated. Thanks a lot! -

Not complaining but find this clown amusing... Modded ah beng car was tailgating me along Lentor Ave. After we made the turn at the junction in Yishun, I saw the LTA bike from far and I deliberately let him pass. As expected, he roared like a lion with smoke coming out of his exhaust. When he saw the LTA bike, he slowed down like a turtle and came to a full stop at another traffic light. I guess his balls shrunk and must be crossing his fingers with the LTA officer right beside him. After that, he stayed behind the LTA bike and quickly made a U turn and ran away like a Kitty. lol! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hMYbiqQEo0I http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=52nF2-LWQtk

SINGAPORE: Singapore's economy will experience growth slower than in the last 10 years. This, against the backdrop of a more developed economy, internal resources constraints and fierce competition from the region. But Singapore needs to strive for growth to improve the collective well-being of its people. Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said this at the Economic Society of Singapore's annual dinner on Friday evening. Since 2003, Singapore's economy grew an average 6.3 per cent per year. Mr Lee said: "Singapore cannot avoid slower growth in the next decade and beyond. This is natural because we are now more developed and we are also running up against land and labour constraints, especially as we reduce the inflow of foreign workers. "Plus competition is fiercer, not only from hundreds of millions of hungry workers in the emerging economies, but also from new technologies that will transform industries all over the world." Mr Lee noted that some Singaporeans may desire slower growth, but deliberately slowing growth beyond Singapore's economic potential could have irreversible consequences. "For Singa

While roads here are getting more crowded, that has not deterred some motorists from pulling away from others and breaking the speed limits. The total number of motor vehicles here grew from about 850,000 in 2007 to roughly 950,000 last year, according to figures released by the Land Transport Authority. This amounted to an increase of 11.7 per cent over that period. But the number of speeding violations detected by the Traffic Police over the same period shot up 40.6 per cent, from nearly 160,000 in 2007 to more than 225,000 last year. However, first-quarter figures for last year and this year show that speeding offences have dipped. Source: http://www.straitstimes.com/BreakingNews/S...ory_800639.html

The GRC which her estate is in is anchored by two heavy-weight cabinet ministers. Maybe it will finally be cleaned when the ministers conduct a visit? In any case, littering is quite a worrying issue in HDB estates and you can see cleaners doing their daily work clearing lift lobbies of bulky disued furnitures, fridges, etc and sweeping away tissues, sweet wrappers, ciggy butts, etc around blocks. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Online...ory_771293.html Slow to clean in this heartland block Published on Feb 28, 2012 WHILE I support and applaud the recent raise in salaries for cleaners in PAP town councils ('Town council cleaners get more pay now'; last Tuesday), I am dismayed by the state of my block of flats managed by the Sembawang Town Council. The littered corridors are often unswept and not cleaned; and strewn often with paper, fliers, cigarette butts and sweet wrappers, which are left there for days. Unfinished drinks and cup noodles left on staircases are uncleared for just as long and are equally a common sight. Certainly, uncivic residents - and non-residents - should be held to account but there is also no reason for trash and litter to be left uncleared for days, and sometimes for as long as a week. When I expressed my concerns to the town council, the reply was that the corridors of each floor should be swept daily. Apparently, that did not include my block. The council employee promised me that she would inform the town council management. But, one year later, the situation has not improved. Neighbourhood cleanliness should rank higher in the council's priorities. Lim Suyin (Ms)

Slow Down Culture It's been 18 years since I joined Volvo, a Swedish company. Working for them has proven to be an interesting experience. Any project here takes 2 years to be finalized, even if the idea is simple and brilliant. It's a rule. Globalize processes have caused in us (all over the world) a general sense of searching for immediate results. Therefore, we have come to posses a need to see immediate results. This contrasts greatly with the slow movements of the Swedish. They, on the other hand, debate, debate, debate, hold x quantity of meetings and work with a slowdown scheme. At the end, this always yields better results. Said in another words: 1. Sweden is about the size of San Pablo, a state in Brazil. 2. Sweden has 2 million inhabitants. 3. Stockholm, has 500,000 people. 4. Volvo, Escania, Ericsson, Electrolux are some of its renowned companies. Volvo supplies the NASA. The first time I was in Sweden, one of my colleagues picked me up at the hotel every morning. It was September, bit cold and snowy. We would arrive early at the company and he would park far away from the entrance (2000 employees drive their car to work). The first day, I didn't say anything, either the second or third. One morning I asked, "Do you have a fixed parking space? I've noticed we park far from the entrance even when there are no other cars in the lot." To which he replied, "Since we're here early we'll have time to walk, and whoever gets in late will be late and need a place closer to the door. Don't you think? Imagine my face. Nowadays, there's a movement in Europe name Slow Food. This movement establishes that people should eat and drink slowly, with enough time to taste their food, spend time with the family, friends, without rushing. Slow Food is against its counterpart: the spirit of Fast Food and what it stands for as a lifestyle. Slow Food is the basis for a bigger movement called Slow Europe, as mentioned by Business Week. Basically, the movement questions the sense of "hurry" and "craziness" generated by globalization, fueled by the desire of "having in quantity" (life status) versus "having with quality", "life quality" or the "quality of being". French people, even though they work 35 hours per week, are more productive than Americans or British (True?). Germans have established 28.8 hour workweeks and have seen their productivity been driven up by 20%. This slow attitude has brought forth the US's attention, pupils of the fast and the "do it now!". This no-rush attitude doesn't represent doing less or having a lower productivity. It means working and doing things with greater quality, productivity, perfection, with attention to detail and less stress. It means reestablishing family values, friends, free and leisure time. Taking the "now", present and concrete, versus the "global", undefined and anonymous. It means taking humans' essential values, the simplicity of living. It stands for a less coercive work environment, more happy, lighter and more productive where humans enjoy doing what they know best how to do. It's time to stop and think on how companies need to develop serious quality with no-rush that will increase productivity and the quality of products and services, without losing the essence of spirit. In the movie, Scent of a Woman, there's a scene where Al Pacino asks a girl to dance and she replies, "I can't, my boyfriend will be here any minute now". To which Al responds, "A life is lived in an instant". Then they dance to a tango. Many of us live our lives running behind time, but we only reach it when we die of a heart attack or in a car accident rushing to be on time. Others are so anxious of living the future that they forget to live the present, which is the only time that truly exists. We all have equal time throughout the world. No one has more or less. The difference lies in how each one of us does with our time. We need to live each moment. As John Lennon said, "Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans". Congratulations for reading till the end of this message. There are many who will have stopped in the middle so as not to waste time in this globalized world.

I really wonder what that many have these thoughts that as long as you are slow, you will be safe... Slow drivers tend to be more "relaxed" during the drive and being more relaxing hence driver's reaction time would be compromised. Compromised driving should be taken off roads as it could be equally dangerous as
