  1. Basically I wrote a feedback to LTA asking why is Vehicle Entry Permit for foreign cars cheaper when compared to current COE prices. Basically singaporeans who bidded for todays COE prices has signed up for an extremely expensive price for TEN YEARS. Foreign cars just has to pay VEP at $20/day for WEEKDAYS. It is FREE on weekends. This is the reply. I mean got reply like not reply. So what is LTA's stand???? never say anything at all. LTA is getting really bad ---------------- Dear Sir, I would like to take this opportunity to clarify on the VEP scheme for foreign-registered cars in Singapore. The Vehicle Entry Permit (VEP) is a scheme for foreign car owners who drive in for business and tourism reasons. For this reason, the VEP fee is levied on foreign-registered cars to mitigate the cost difference of using foreign and Singapore-registered cars due to differences in road tax, insurance, fuel, etc. The VEP fees is regularly reviewed and is currently under review. We thank you for your feedback. Regards, Irene Liew

  4. Hello guys! Would appreciate some helpful input here.. I'm currently using Outlook 2010 in the office and Entourage 2008 at home. I will be travelling for a week and will need to have an Out Of Office auto reply whenever a new email comes in. I'm on Pop3, and not using any exchange server. I guess I have to switch on my Outlook or Entourage all the time for the auto reply to work? This seems pretty frustrating as it means I have to bring my laptop and have the Outlook or Entourage running all the time for the auto reply to work? Any way to get around this? Thanks!
  5. if someone breaks into your house here in sgp with a knife, and u call 999 to ask for the same advice, what would it be? http://news.yahoo.com/okla-woman-shoots-ki...-091106413.html Okla. Woman Shoots, Kills Intruder: 911 Operators Say It's OK to Shoot A young Oklahoma mother shot and killed an intruder to protect her 3-month-old baby on New Year's Eve, less than a week after the baby's father died of cancer. Sarah McKinley says that a week earlier a man named Justin Martin dropped by on the day of her husband's funeral, claiming that he was a neighbor who wanted to say hello. The 18-year-old Oklahoma City area woman did not let him into her home that day. On New Year's Eve Martin returned with another man, Dustin Stewart, and this time was armed with a 12-inch hunting knife. The two soon began trying to break into McKinley's home. As one of the men was going from door to door outside her home trying to gain entry, McKinley called 911 and grabbed her 12-gauge shotgun. McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO that she quickly got her 12 gauge, went into her bedroom and got a pistol, put the bottle in the baby's mouth and called 911. "I've got two guns in my hand -- is it okay to shoot him if he comes in this door?" the young mother asked the 911 dispatcher. "I'm here by myself with my infant baby, can I please get a dispatcher out here immediately?" The 911 dispatcher confirmed with McKinley that the doors to her home were locked as she asked again if it was okay to shoot the intruder if he were to come through her door. "I can't tell you that you can do that but you do what you have to do to protect your baby," the dispatcher told her. McKinley was on the phone with 911 for a total of 21 minutes. When Martin kicked in the door and came after her with the knife, the teen mom shot and killed the 24-year-old. Police are calling the shooting justified. "You're allowed to shoot an unauthorized person that is in your home. The law provides you the remedy, and sanctions the use of deadly force," Det. Dan Huff of the Blanchard police said. Stewart soon turned himself in to police. McKinley said that she was at home alone with her newborn that night because her husband just died of cancer on Christmas Day. "I wouldn't have done it, but it was my son," McKinley told ABC News Oklahoma City affiliate KOCO. "It's not an easy decision to make, but it was either going to be him or my son. And it wasn't going to be my son. There's nothing more dangerous than a woman with a child."

  8. This morning along Haig Road beside Tanjong Katong Primary.. Normal for slow traffic everywhere in SG ..parents /guardians sending kids to school..but my son school they allow cars to go in for drop off in order to stop holding traffic outside..understandable tht sometime ppl lazy to drive in... I was driving out and enter the 2 way single lane road...long queues of cars and vans and slow moving with almost bumpers to bumpers.. Suddenly this Civic in front of me stopped and then 'ON his left signal' ... cant see what happening in the car really..holding up the stretched of road.. Horn him and passed my headlights..still did not move..tried to filter out slowly when no oncoming traffic.. Suddenly his kids came out of the car..when to his side and told him next time put on hazard lights earlier and not his left side signal ON..so ppl can react earlier to filter.. I think its normal for us remind others on this... My main highlights is that how he reply me... grinned face and say' WHY U FOLLOW SO NEAR' u know 'I WANT TO STOP'... Shocked to hear his reply as he didnt hear ppl friendly advice during long queues but comment sacasticly... I want to learn to read ppl minds please help.. [sweatdrop] Typical or minority...

  10. OVERNIGHT PARKING AT HDB CAR PARKS WITH NIGHT PARKING SCHEME Thank you for your email of 17 Jun 10. 2 Motorists are advised to use the night parking coupons if they need to do overnight parking as the $2 night parking coupon is designed specifically for use for night parking from 10.30 pm to 7 am the next morning. However, we do exercise flexibility on occasions where you do not have the night parking coupons ready. You may use the day coupons (e.g. 4 pieces of 50 cents or 2 pieces of $1) to make up for the $2 night parking charge. 3 The correct way to display parking coupons is to tear them all of the same time if you are using more than 1 coupon to cover the night parking charge of $2. 4 If you need any general information on general short term parking, you could visit our website : www.hdb.gov.sg. To reach the short term parking information, please go to Living in HDB flats>Car Park Facilities>Short Term Parking. 5 If you have further questions, you can contact me at Tel No. 64902347. (signed) LEW WAI LENG, PHOEBE (Ms) ADMIN EXECUTIVE for DEPUTY DIRECTOR (CAR PARKS) HOUSING ADMINISTRATION DEPARTMENT ****************************************************************** Alright this clears all the doubts and debates. We can use coupons of other denominations to make up $2 for night parking. But must start from the same time! Do take note for normal day parking or hourly night parking, the start time of the 2nd coupon should be at the end time of the 1st coupon so on and so forth. Not all coupons start same time ok?
  11. Why my title is as follows.... Yesterday @ 1850hrs.. The story goes like this while travelling along the road beside the SAFRA Tampines leading to Avenue 1...traffic turns red so stop behind 3 cars mine last car..beside me on my right was a modded red swift... Then came this car stop behind me with high beam ON..ignore him.. felt funny though as when all cars starts moving off...he just tailgated all the way with his high beam light behind me till the Polytechnic... this time made me frustrated and tapped my brake ...he swerved to my right side and start jerking his car with that BOV sound over and over again(I think its just a sound module ) Cuts in front of me and jammed brake a few times and went to the left and starts put up his hand for a race...my wife was with me told to ignore him.. Ignored him liao...ESi and MPV.. hahah.. Turn to Avenue 10 towards Kaki Bukit Flyover... Again jerking his car with that stupid BOV sound...and zoomfast up the fly over...tailgated him halfway till my wife starts making noise... Further up the flyover again he jerked off the previous modded red swift...this time the swift given him the smoke only to smell.. For the driver of the FUNNY CAR if you or your friend read this ...tell me please what happen just to continue this story..

  14. Dear mods, Correct me if i am wrong.. 1. The current forum does not have email sent to me when a reply is made specific to my posts. 2. The only way to get any notification is by checking the subscription button. If the above is true, the following problem is faced.. not by me but a few other forumers as well after conversing with them via msn. 1. We get flooded in the email as now we are subscribed to all those threads we participated (we checked the auto subscribe thing). 2. There is no choice as this is the only way to know someone replied to me. 3. People starts to use the Fast Reply and replies become 'indiscriminal'. My suggestion is 1. Bring back the former function of us getting emails only when someone replies specifically to our posts. 2. Remove Fast Replies totally to everyone. I feel the situation now is the thread gets abit multi tracked after a while.. and there is a loss of flow in the discussion. When someone say read page 2, reply via fast reply and his posting appears on page 13, it was already on some other key agenda. There is a sudden loss in context and evolution of the thread. And i see that you do not know which is the last page of discussion. I may think page 5 is the last, and after replying, realize there was actually say 23 pages.. and it felt like you are offtracked.. I hope maybe the mods can address these issues. The solution is actually quite easy as referred to under my suggestions. Thank you very much !
  15. Guys, Since my previous thread has been removed and you all eager to know what is Traffic Police reply regarding the overtaking lane. It is not wrong to give way to fast-moving vehicles if you are already travelling within the speed limit unless those emergency vehicles like Ambulance or Police cars. You should give way to fast moving vehicles on the extreme right lane of the road or expressway if you are slower than the speed limit of the road or expressway. Even if you are travelling above the speed limit of the road, you are advised to keep your speed within the speed limit of the road. Do take note of those highlighted portion : "Dear Mr XXX I refer to your preceding email. You may wish to know that it is also an offence to drive at unreasonably low speeds on the road, especially on the rightmost lane or along the centre of the road or expressway. Motorists travelling slowly are advised to keep to the left side of the road or expressway-especially small capacity motorcycles, goods vehicles and lorries. In addition, motorists travelling in the extreme right lanes should give way to fast-moving vehicles intending to overtake. However, while motorists should not hinder the smooth flow of traffic, such fast-moving vehicles should also keep within the stipulated speed limit for that particular stretch of road, or of their vehicles, whichever is lower. Below is the email I sent to Traffic Police : "17 Oct, 2008 06:37 PM To SPF Feedback TP/SPF/SINGOV@SINGOV cc Subject Rules for overtaking in Lane 1 Dear Officer-in-charge, I like to bring to your attention regarding a bad experience I encountered this afternoon around 12pm when I was traveling at speed limit of 100km/h along PIE towards Jurong some where after Tampines Exit. I was traveling at 100km/h on Lane 1 of the PIE as the speed limit for that stretch of road is 90km/h and there was no car in front and lane 2. Suddenly, there is a Subaru Legacy coming from a distance traveling above 100km/h and tailgating me for some time. I did not give way to him and he overtake me from Lane 2 and stare at me when his car was beside my car, after he overtake my car, he suddenly slow down to around 60km/h causing me to step on my brake as it is below the speed limit of the road. I ignore him and change lane to lane 2, letting other vehicles to play with him and I change back to lane 1 after I see no more oncoming vehicles from lane 1. It was some distance some where before Eunos exit that I see this Subaru Legacy again in front of my car at lane 1, I stay away some distance from him knowing his intention but he suddenly change to lane 2 and exit out of Paya Lebar Exit. My passenger was telling me that the driver stare at me again but I just ignore him as safety is more important. I was told by my friends and some forum members that even though I am travelling within the speed limit of the expressway on lane 1, I need to give way to vehicles which are traveling at higher speed and I am consider a road hogger when I don't give way to them? I know that lane 1 is for overtaking vehicles and I will give way to authority vehicles if needed even though I am traveling at the speed limit of the road, I will also need to change back to lane 2 if I need to overtake some vehicles. Please advise me the proper rules for lane 1 and overtaking and hope you can reply me soon, thanks. Regards, Mr XXX"
  16. Dear Chin Chai One 10Q you for your letter. On behalf of the Prime Minister, I am replying to your letter as follows. As the erected party of Singaporeans, we are here to serve. We are demon-cratic country, you are master, we gahmen servant, we serve you. You got problems we must help. You say no need our help? That means your not Singapore 's master. You say you run for cover? Cannot one, our police will find you. GST is to help the Gahmen to help yourself. The Gahmen Service Tax is everywhere, you go America also have one, cannot run one. Traffic very bad, so bad that we have to hold car racing at nite to avoid traffic jam. We believe there is no free lunch like PM's father say before, you use, you must pay, so Every Road Pay. So you see no ERP cannot one. Needless to say, passenger service also must pay. The increase in bus fare and MRT and taxi fare are very little already. We forsee world inflation coming: oil, steel, pay of foreign talents etc, so we have to pay for the service. You see, many foreign talents come to Singapore . If we don't pay our ministers well, they will go other countries to be their foreign talents. So must raise salary to keep them. If not, Nathan, Shanmugam, Bala etc will go India and work. Khaw will go Malaysia . etc etc. Must keep them. To keep them must pay well. You are right, any help also must pay. To help yourself? No, it's illegal. You mean you can build your own MRT? Run your own buses? Drive your Ba-Ong-Chia? Build your own roads? Seow liao!! Every one help himself then how? No social order lah! Ga ga ask for help, we are here to serve you. We understand some of you have temporary problem. Dont worry, it is only short term. We must look long term. We must invest long term. Now lose a bit dont cow beh cow boo, long term! Yes, remember. 30 or 50 years later we will own Swiss banks, US banks, UK properties, maybe even South Pole condominiums. We must tighten our seat belt and bite our false teeth. The future very bright. As long as you> continue to support the gahmen 30 to 50 years you will see bright future. So Chiang See Tong a bit lah. Also, investing is very complicated business, not easy. We must pay school fee to learn from advanced countries. On Selamat's case, we also must learn our lesson. We encourage life-long-learning. I learn whole life time, you learn whole life, Mr Wong Cant Sing also whole life learning. It's actually good. Mr Wong already apologise, dont force a dog to jump over the wall, the wall may collapse. Old dog cannot jump high also. Selamat's case gives us many lessons. We must be on alert, not too complacent. Now every Singaporean know there can be a terrorist among us any time. This is the best self defence education !! PM will give Mr Wong another salary increment for that. Also now we merge the prisons and detention centre, more space will be available now. We will build it like another IR, Integrated Retention - so those dont want our service and thinking of doing illegal service will go there. We will pass a new law too, the expenses for stay in that IR will be deducted from your CPF money. Remember we must be grateful to people who help us --> and pay. I hope I have explained the situation and give you the message clearly. If you still need help, please call my handphone: 99906767, it's toll-free. By the way, Mr Chin Chai One, our pioneer Toh Chin Chai already toh long ago. So if you choose to be Chin Chin Chai Chai, you will also Toh. 10Q you again, Reguards, Ah Beng Grassrude secretary

  21. This is my original email to MDA: Hi, I have some questions on the car radio licence scheme in Singapore which need your clarification: 1. Why is there a need for car owners (with receivers) to pay car licence whereas owners of MP3 players, handphones, alarm clocks with radio are exempted from the same fee? How about users accessing the radio free from the internet? 2. Is Singapore following some international standards in this radio licence scheme? Could you provide some examples? 3. What is the licence fee used for? Are not the radio stations already privatised? 4. I do not listen the radio on my receiver. However, the receiver is needed for my mp3 playback. Do you have a disabling service for the radio reception on my receiver without the need to remove the entire unit? Looking for the favourable reply. Thanks. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the formal reply. Nice attempt but of zero substance: We refer to your email of 21 December 2006 on the above subject. We would like to explain that a vehicle radio licence is required as long as a radio receiver is installed in the vehicle, regardless of the nature or frequency of use of the broadcasting device. The collection of both TV and Radio licence fees is still necessary to ensure that the public has access to public service broadcast (PSB) programmes in the four official languages. Such broadcasts include current affairs, information, culture, local sports, quality drama, children’s and minority language programmes. These are local programmes that help keep Singaporeans informed about issues of relevance to them, bond the various community groups, and help to anchor local audiences to Singapore. Unlike mass entertainment programmes, PSB programmes often do not attract sufficient advertising revenue and hence need to be supported. Besides Singapore, many countries like UK, Japan, France, Norway and Germany collect TV licence fees to fund their TV stations. Funding support for such programmes has enabled our broadcast services to offer greater balance and variety in their programming to serve the needs of our society. There have also been many developments for audiences in Singapore since 1994, including an increase in the number of free-to-air channels from 16 radio and 4 free-to-air TV channels in 1994 to 18 radio and 6 free-to-air TV channels currently, as well as developments in new technologies such as digital audio and digital TV broadcasting. All these have been achieved although the licence fees have remained unchanged since 1994. For household who have taken up TV Licences, they do not require to apply for household radio, mobile phones and MP3 players. Thank you for your attention on this matter. Yours sincerely Tan Jennie (Ms) Customer Service Officer for Director Customer & Licensing Services
  22. Recently sent an email to Futomo to enquiry on the correct model of drain valve I should be purchasing as the model is not listed on their webby .. Here is the email exchange --> I say : > Hi , > > my ride is Honda Jazz 05 model . Which the the correct one I should be purchasing ? Very keen on your product but cant seems to find my model on your website . The size of my engine oil nut is aprox 0.7 in .Pls advice , cheers ! Their reply : Dear Customer Thank you for your inquiry of March 2. Asking about the valve applications for 2005 Honda Jazz motorcycle , we do not have any specialized application for motorcycle, but the size of plug for all Honda engines are 14mm - 1.5, it should be fitted with our part#F106. As you know, the motorcycle engine is designed different from car engine, there might be some difficulties like which the engine part hits the lever of valve when it open and close due to the lack of space, also the low ground clearance and so on. The dimension of F106 valve is 7/8" in length and the body of valve needs at least a radius of 1" from center of plug hole at the base. Would you please check your motorcycle engine first, and you may try out our product. Thank you for your interest in Engine Oil Drain Valve. We look forward to receiving your order soon. Best regards, YM International Company On-line Distributor of Fumoto Oil Drain Valve www.fumotovalve.com
