  3. Read more link: http://www.straitstimes.com/singapore/facebook-launches-online-marketplace-platform-in-singapore Personally have been waiting for this move for more than a year already. Would be an interesting additional channel for ecommerce. But as a consumer, I'm not sure if I want a business owner to have access to what is publicly available on my profile... double edge sword really.
  4. I used to use FSM but realised they were a bit pricey so I switched to Dollardex which I really liked until they changed a lot of their graphs and log ins. Why they needed to update a perfectly good system just amazes me. So now I'm wondering about POEMS. Anyone use them and can give me the pros and cons.
  5. Girl Narrowly Escapes as Escalator Floor Breaks Open Another escalator malfunction in China . A Chinese girl escaped unhurt as an escalator malfunctioned on Sunday at a shopping mall in Shenyang, northeast China's Liaoning Province. The girl, believed to be in her 20s, stepped onto a panel of flooring at the top of the escalator when it suddenly gave way. Staff at the mall soon shut down the escalator, and no one was injured. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CtbdrIMa-Wo
  6. BMW and Toyota recently signed an agreement and part of it will see both automakers working together on a new sports car architecture. From this architecture, each automaker will release a new model. For BMW, the platform will be used for the next generation Z4 and for Toyota, it will be used for the next generation Supra. But, the supposedly new platform isn't exactly new. The new platform that will be used for the new Z4 and Supra is the same rear wheel drive platform that underpins the Toyota 86 and the Subaru BRZ and the platform will go through some further development to suit the new car
  7. PSA Peugeot Citroen revealed the group's new EMP2 platform (Efficient Modular Platform 2) during their Innovation Day celebration. It will underpin the next generation Peugeot 308 and Citroen C4, as well as other models in the C and D segments. The French group has produced a video depicting the various advantages of the new platform. It even comes with a sound track befitting an action-packed movie. The EMP2 platform is very flexible and is suited for a wide range of body styles including SUVs, light commercial vehicles, hatchbacks, sedans and estates. Making use of high-strength steel, aluminum and composites, the EMP2 saves some 70kg over the current platform. The new platform promises to deliver increased safety, driving pleasure and comfort in addition to improved fuel efficiency. Having a highly adaptable single platform across its products is a clever cost-saving strategy for the loss-making Peugeot Citroen, which has been struggling to return to profitability amid weak demand in Europe.
  8. Dear pet lovers, Would like to check if there are any places to recommend for doing up platform for tortoises as I'm trying to move my two tortoises to a bigger living area for them but not too sure what's the costs. The tortoises are slightly bigger than palm-size alr, thus normal platforms can't house them.
  9. SINGAPORE: Donations are pouring in from all over the world to help alleviate the national phenomenon of MRT commuters falling into the platform gap. Donut News understands that one of the donor, Ronald of Des Plaines, Illinois has kindly agreed to donate 100,000 pairs of customized shoes to help prevent a nation-wide catastrophe. The special shoes has so far helped the world-famous clown planted his footprint all over the world, without falling into any platform gap. A simple solution to a complex problem. 14. Some newsbits about the next major update of the Skoda Superb, the 2009 model will be based on a stretched and widen Octavia II platform to distance itself from VW similar models mainly the VW Passat. What are your thoughts on the direction that Skoda has taken or was it a VW decisions? Anyways looks like the Superb will be pegged with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4, Alfa Romeo 159, Lexus IS series of cars? Than where is Octavia's class range pitted against? What's your views?
  15. FOCUS on p1 The Volvo p1 platform (the code name for Volvo's small-car platform) will form the basis for several compact cars. The most important are the next S40, to be released in late 2002 or early 2003, and the V50, due in summer 2003. The S40 will be slightly smaller in length than the current car, while the V50 will be slightly longer than the current V40. Also, Volvo will release a V30 and a small SUV to elevate the company to product leadership in the compact car field. FOCUS on Transplants As you may already know, and as the picture above suggests, the Volvo cars that will be based on the p1 platform will also be based on the Ford Focus. But not the platform of the current Focus, which has been widely acclaimed as the best car in its class in both the United States and Europe. Instead, the p1 platform will be a version of the Focus' replacement's platform, which, as some sources suggest, will be based on the next Mazda Protege's platform. Quite complicated, I must agree. FOCUS on Production The vehicles based on the p1 will have to be produced in a new or refurbished plant that will be able to build several different cars based on the same platform. Currently, the S40 and V40 are built in Europe and in South Africa. The Ford Focus is built in the United States and Europe. Although it is likely that the p1 variants will be built in the plants where the 40s are built today, it is possible that they will also be built in the Focus plants or even a Mazda plant. There are rumors that the p1 variants will be built in the United States in a new Volvo factory (more, here), but that plan is still not finalized. The most important question when considering whether or not to build a new factory, and where to place it, will be cost. FOCUS on Competition S40 - The S40 sedan will be trapped in a slightly odd position. While the S60 is bigger than the BMW 3 Series yet competes against it in price, the future S40 will be slightly smaller than the Three Series in size and much cheaper. Its biggest competitors in price range will be the Volkswagen Passat in Europe and the Toyota Camry in the United States. V50 - Now that the V70 has moved up in size, so will the V40 when it becomes the V50 wagon. The exact same size as the BMW 3 Series wagon, the car will compete against it, the Audi A4 Avant, and the Mercedes C-Class Estate. V30 - The V30 hatchback will compete against a growing field of competitors that will shatter (sadly) its hope of being the segment leader. It will compete against the BMW compact, the Audi A3, and the Mercedes Sport Coupe. Others - In this field, Volvo will enter new segments of the marketplace, with vehicles like a small SUV to compete with the Land Rover Freelander, and a small MPV to compete with such vehicles as the Renault Megane Scenic. Also, Volvo may create some sport variants of the cars on the p1 platform to compete against BMW Ms, Audi Rs, and Mercedes AMGs. FOCUS on Target Group Who does Volvo want to buy the vehicles that will be based on the p1 platform? Well, the answer should be relatively obvious. In the US, the S40, V50, and V30 will be aimed at young men and women with children who care about safety and luxury. Since the cars will be cheaper and smaller than those currently marketed by Volvo, these people will be young professionals just out of college. The V50XC (Cross Country) will be aimed at those who love the outdoors but cannot afford the V70XC or the (future) large SUV. In Europe, the vehicles based on the p1 platform will also be targeted to families, but instead of young families, they will be middle aged. This is because spending money and space are limited, so a smaller, cheaper car is more useful than something like a big S80.
