Hi! Newbie to the ICE scene. Just wondering what is menat by an ACTIVE setup vs PASSIVE setup? I was asked by one of the installers whether I want to run my HU as active...... what does it mean? But from the impression i get, the active setup requires a better HU? Thanks!!

Is there such a thing as a passive under seat sub? I have installed actives and passives before and active is definitely a no-go for power. However, space is a constraint in hatchbacks but the desire for bass is still there. It would be perfect if there is a sub that can fit under one seat, the amp and crossovers in the other seat.

As the above thread, any Bro/Sis installed them on their ride?Considering installing it on mine, but concern about the reliabilty and other unforseen issue although it comes with a year's warranty.

I bought a passive tube sub quite sometime back, open box but mint condition. I never installed it in the past as I was still waiting to change ride. But now I changed ride, it's a hatchback with quite a small boot space. So now I'm thinking of selling it off, but I don't want to sell elmon to people. So is there anyway I can test the sub before I put it up on sale? Can just use a multi-meter to test impedance on the sub? TIA.

Hi, newbie with a question. Hope its not too controversial. Does it make sense to get a Pioneer P80 HU (one of the better models out there) and yet run it on passive setup? It seems like a waste if this HU which allow network (active), was on passive. (not maximising its functionality) My thought is..if one is running P80 on Passive, than wouldn't a cheaper HU, say with comparable spec to P80 minus the network ability should suffice? all comments appreciated. Still got alot to learn.

i'm trying to learn how to decipher the circuitry of my passive cross but it doesn't seem to follow a simple 1st or 2nd order cross. so i'm real confused. anyone can make head-tail out of this attached picture? http://f3.yahoofs.com/users/4296d66fz5a650...hQ3MuEBthG1cXBo maybe could first take a look at the woofer section of the circuit - which components are really running? they almost ALL seem to be influencing the woofer circuit. so many components - i have no blinking idea how to calculate its woofer low-pass frequency, especially since it also connects to the tweeter outputs! heeeelllllppppppp......mmmeeeeeeeeeee....... :~(

Like to ask the pros here regarding this few issues. I would just like to get some 2nd hand sub to pump up the bass abit. my questions are 1. Is amp a must for passive sub? 2. regard the subwoofer box, can I just get a carpenter to stick 6 piece of board together? or must it be specially made? if can, what kind of board is used? can use acrylics instead of board?
