  1. Singapore Pennywise. Warning to parents, there're strange characters outside school trying to come in contact with children in the absence of an adult.
  2. what kind of parent is this?! Mother herself a lecturer and yet she is so irresponsible that she neglect the importance of Childcare Leaving her 2 year-old child in a car unattended. ============================================================================== Two-year-old girl in Malaysia dies after being left inside car for four hours PORT DICKSON - A two-year-old girl died after she was left inside a car by her mother. She was believed to have succumbed to heatstroke. Hasmah Masroh, 32, found her daughter, Nur Awfa Humaisha' Muhammad Ali Riduan, unconscious after she realised that she was still in the car at the Port Dickson Vocational College here. Port Dickson OCPD Supt Zainduin Ahmad said preliminary investigations revealed that the mother, who is a lecturer at the college, left the toddler in the car at the college's parking lot for four hours. "She only realised that her child was still in the car at around 1pm. When she rushed to the vehicle, the victim was already unconscious," he said. The mother then rushed her daughter to the Port Dickson health clinic but the victim was pronounced dead a short while later. Supt Zainudin said a post mortem would be conducted on the child to establish the cause of death. No arrests have been made. The case, he said, was being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act for child abuse. Offenders can be jailed up to 10 years and fined not more than RM20,000 (S$6,700) upon conviction. http://www.asiaone.com/malaysia/two-year-old-girl-malaysia-dies-after-being-left-inside-car-four-hours?xtor=EREC-16-4[Emarsys_Newsletter]-20180315&extid=6934d0cfb7b252f1ae9f0dbddf5ff88ca8637e77
  3. Creative Japanese father prints life-sized cardboard cutouts of wife so son won’t cry in her absence source: https://mothership.sg/2019/12/japan-father-print-cardboard-cutout/ Sometimes, parenthood presents its own unique obstacles, which may require some ingenuity to overcome. One father in Japan certainly rose to the challenge. Fooling son with realistic cutout In a tweet, which has since amassed over 47,000 retweets and around 123,000 likes, one @sato_nezi showed how he solved his son’s separation anxiety while his wife was away. Sato shared that his one-year-old child would start to cry uncontrollably whenever he lost sight of his mother. Which led to some rather resourceful parenting methods. Sato decided to print a life-sized cardboard cutout of his wife, perhaps to trick his son into thinking his mother was still around. For added realism, the cutout was even printed in two different poses, one of the mother standing, and another of her kneeling down. Here are photos of the innocuous cutout, placed in appropriate parts of the house. And it seems the method worked. Look how happy he is. Another video posted on Twitter The video shows Sato added that his son was fooled for about 20 minutes, and said the cutout “could be a lifesaver”.
  4. Am very delighted when Nan Hua Pri Sch (NHPS) accepted my application as PV for my daughter's enrolment for P1 in 2012. However, me now staying >2km (at CCK)...thus am contemplating very hard on whether to shift house. Have checked the property prices (both HDB and pte) in Clementi area (especially within 1 km of NHPS) and it is quite high...or should I enrol in a decent neighbourhood sch within my resident vicinity and then enrol her for tuition and enrichment classes instead?? At CCK, I am considering South View Pri (within 1km to 2km from where I stay) and Yew Tee Pri (within 1km from where I stay)...however, for both 2008 and 2009, South View Pri has balloting even in Phase 2B for those residing within 1km, while for Yew Tee Pri, balloting was applicable for phase 2C only. Thus far, NHPS only has balloting for phase 2B in 2008. For 2009 and a few years before 2008, there was no balloting in phase 2B. Haiz...really in a dilemma...any advice from gurus here?? Many thks!! 5. really that bad meh? the monthly amount spent is as good as somebody pay for a year! just heard on radio this morning getting 'tuitor' to do homework on behlaf is common, even for assignment, uni final year project, etc. wonder what Gearoil has to say on this? i remember when i did my master, i was so busy that i could meet the deadline, i told my lectuerer that i can't make it and ask him to fail me, lucky the final assignment only contribute 20% which i still pass the subject. Never in my mind to engage such 'services' though i knew their existence long ago. Paper qualification is so easy to come back and nothing is real on the surface nowadays.
  6. Warning to parents. Know what your children do and friends online. The last girl really got into the van of a total stranger.
  7. Number two on the way! Woohoo! Another girl. Was having this discussion with my Wife. She was worried I will make her give birth until we have a boy. LOL. Just curious. How many kids do you guys intend to have? And what are the factors that will influence the number of kids you have?
  8. In the past, parents will eagerly volunteer at schools to get priority placing for their children going into P1. Based on this year's stats, and because of the new ruling to keep 40 spaces for Phase 2B and 2C, there is one school so popular that there may not be any vacancies at all for Phase 2A(2)! Guess which school? http://edumatters.sg/p1-registration-phase-2a1-closed-stats-update/
  9. http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story...-driving-100kmh SAINT-PETERSBURG - Police in Russia's northwestern city of Saint Petersburg have launched a probe after a video of an eight-year-old girl driving 100 kilometres per hour through snowy scenery went viral on the Internet. The clip of Karina Mikulchik driving was shot by her mother Yelena, who was sitting in the back seat. The footage has been viewed nearly 500,000 times on YouTube. The little girl seems unperturbed handling the Audi to the sounds of techno music from the stereo. A man sitting in the passenger seat, apparently her father, tells her: "Come on! Accelerate! At least to 100! Don't be afraid." The camera zooms in to show the speed creeping up to 100 kilometres. "If Nastya saw me drive a car, she'd pass out right away!" the smiling girl says at one point, apparently referring to a friend, as she speeds through a snow-covered field on a narrow road. - See more at: http://ride.asiaone.com/news/general/story...h.Na8mNYcS.dpuf mad parent, ridiculous, how can they ask their 8 year old to drive 100km/h?
  10. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_763717.html Primary 1 registration 'By allowing parents who live farther away to volunteer, schools lower the chances of those who live nearer.' MS CECILIA TEO: 'I signed up as a parent volunteer at a popular school in my area to increase the chances of my first child's enrolment in Primary 1. I did so although we live less than 2km from the school. But I was told that children of parent volunteers are not guaranteed a place and that balloting is required. I know it is not possible to abolish the parent volunteer system because schools need volunteers. But at least restrict it to families living nearby. By allowing parents who live farther away to volunteer, schools lower the chances of those who live nearer. I hope the Ministry of Education will review the arrangement. There are many parents like me who want to enrol their children in schools nearby, because of the convenience rather than because the schools are top schools or popular choices.' [/color]

  17. Lying children will grow up to be successful citizens The earlier a child starts telling convincing lies the more likely they are to be a success in later life, new research suggests. By Richard Alleyne, Science Correspondent Published: 6:00PM BST 16 May 2010 Researchers have found that the ability to tell fibs at the age of two is a sign of a fast developing brain and means they are more likely to have successful lives. They found that the more plausible the lie, the more quick witted they will be in later years and the better their abiliy to think on their feet.
  18. Hi all, Anyone been through parent volunteer interview for primary school? what question usually they ask? thanks for any info
  19. Just wonder how many of you here are weekend parents? I think is getting common nowadays, 3 of my neighbours are all weekend parents. They will leave the kids with ah gong and ah ma on weekdays and only bring them home on Sat and Sun. 1 of the neighbour is lagi best, all the 7 days leave to grandparents to take care, only bring him home on Sat and Sunday afternoon and by evening send the kid back to grandparents. Last saturday i met one ah gong with his few months old granddaughter at the clinic. He complain to me about how lazy his son and daughter-in-law, the baby girl was unwell for 3 days already and yet the parents still can't be bother like that and wait until sat then bring to doc. As uusual when i ask the parents why don't bring your child back, they will say tired and they need to cope with work stress blah blah. I couldn't understand, if raising a kid is so tiring or if career is so important, then why give birth? If they are not willing to sacrifice the sleep, why want to have kid? And they can have the heart to sacrifice the old folks sleep instead. What has the world become?
  20. Hi all, Few of my friends who are more successful in business ventures have accumulated enough wealth that they don't require their sons/daughter to support them. To them, their wealth are not their children wealth. Some stopped giving financial assistance as soon as their kids grown up. For example, they share the same roof, living in landed property, owned a S-class or 7 series but Son drives a Hyundai Getz and daughter drives a Toyota Vios. The parent will not lend money to the kids, some even wanted to charge the kids rental. Good or bad? Regards,
  21. locked in car for 45 minutes Parents left key in BMW's ignition, so rescuers smashed window to save 6-month-old By Shree Ann Mathavan March 13, 2007 IT was a rescue operation that lasted less than 10 minutes. Yet, brief as it was, WO Azmi Hasan, 42, a warrant officer with the Singapore Civil Defence Force, couldn't take any chances. A witness pointing to where the locked car was parked. -- SHIN MIN DAILY NEWS The reason? The rescue operation involved a 6-month-old baby girl. She lay strapped in her baby chair on the back seat of a locked BMW car crying, while her parents haplessly looked on. They had accidentally locked the car doors with the key in the ignition and the engine running last Saturday morning, next to some shophouses along Kim Yam Road, off River Valley Road. The baby's father, who is in his late 30s, had called the police at about 11.20am that morning. The New Paper understands that he and his wife had accidentally closed the car door with the car key still in the ignition. As the vehicle has an auto-locking system, the car doors got locked with the engine and air-conditioning still running. WO Azmi told The New Paper: 'Seeing the baby trapped and crying inside, I really felt the sense of urgency to rescue her as fast as possible and get her out.' He arrived with seven officers and decided the best way to rescue the baby was to break the glass window of the driver's seat. WO Azmi explained: 'We did it because of the urgency of the situation and breaking the glass window was the fastest way possible to get the vehicle open.' He used a palm-sized seat-belt cutter with a sharp metal point, normally used to cut the seatbelts of accident victims trapped in vehicles. CORNER OF WINDOW All it took was one knock, but the blow had to be angled at the corner of the car window, instead of in the centre, so that the glass shards wouldn't spray too far away. Meanwhile, the parents looked on in anguish from the side. Said WO Azmi: 'I wasn't really afraid. 'There was a distance of about 1m from the driver's seat to where the baby lay on the left hand side of the back seat.' Once the car window was broken, SCDF officers cleared away the glass shards from the driver's seat and the floor of the car. In all, the child had spent about 45 minutes in the locked car. An SCDF spokesman said that the baby was not hurt, but as a precaution, she was taken in an ambulance to KK Women's and Children Hospital, accompanied by her mother. Seeing the baby safe and sound, WO Azmi said, was the ultimate reward for a job well done. WO Azmi, who has three daughters aged 4 to 10, understood the couple's anguish. He said it's the third time he has rescued a baby from a locked vehicle. 'It's my job, I didn't feel nervous, I just focused on getting her out to safety.' In March 2005, The Straits Times reported that a man kicked in the windscreen of his BMW, because his 12-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were trapped in the car. They could not unlock the doors from inside as their ship broker father had left the car key in the boot. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/story/0,...,124729,00.html?
