Hi all bros and sis, Am wondering if anyone has any experience with PI? Got good ones to recommend (warranty, after sales car servicing etc)or got any one best to avoid? Thanx!
-
Hi all, as many of you have experience buying from PI, assuming that the car you booked is not VAC-ready, kindly share your personal experience on your waiting time between the car's arrival in Singapore to clearing the port, LTA inspection and finally your collection date. I've been digging around the forums and most of the information comes from a few years ago, which is quite outdated already. Also, take the chance to share some of your own recent experience with PIs.

Rules of thumb and experience help, but we prefer repeatable experiments. And if you see this and laugh, you're probably not as good as you think you are. Thankfully, the recipe for a one-move parking job is pretty simple. 1. Pull alongside the car ahead of the space you want. Align your rear axle with that car's bumper. Turn the wheel toward the curb at full lock. 2. Back up until the center of your inside rear tire aligns with the streetside edge of the forward car. Straighten wheel, continue to reverse. 3. When your outside tire aligns with that same edge, turn the wheel the other way. 4. If all went according to plan, you're in the space, bodywork intact. Get out and admire your work.

Parallel imported cars has been in the Singapore automotive market for decades. They offer car buyers alternative choices other than those selling in authorised dealers, bringing car models that authorised dealers don't bring in, and provide cheaper choice of almost similar models sold by authorised dealers. Although in the recent years, there have been some unscrupulous PI dealers practicing unethical practices of business, however, this only represnts the minority and parallel imported cars still remain a favourite choice for Singaporeans. PI market still consist mainly of JDM models although continental cars forms a fraction of the sales as well. Let us see some of the PI cars imported to Singapore in the past and presently. Yesterday went to Dunlop St to have steamboat for dinner at One Pot. Wanted to park along the street but it's very hard to find a lot during dinner hours. And it's pretty hard to drive through the road as it looks quite narrow. Also many people there and nearly knocked down a guy. I also wonder how to park the parallel lots as I think the roads are too narrow to maneuver into the parallel lot. In the end, went to park at the open carpark at Weld St. A few years back, also in the same area, Little India, I parked on one of the streets and my friend opened the door and banged on the high kerb. Luckily no scratches and it's my old car. I noticed some parallel lots in these areas tends to be harder to park. Do you guys encounter the same problems?

The latest news from straits time. Exodus global has been filed police reports with several buyers who paid the first or balance payment not able to get their new car. Some owners even had paid as much as $100,000 with no car been delivered. https://soulblogger.net/random/parallel-importers-in-business-risk/

Hi Bro I am interested to get a 5 series BMW. Today I went down to UBI car mart to survey the price before purchase. Much to my surprise, some of the car dealer able to provide less $40K than what I checked from BMW direct agent and they told me the reason was due to it is ''Parallel import car BMW''. They told me there is not different in the car regardless or engine or specification and they mention they do have they own workshop for services that might costs only $200 rather than agent service $500. Anyone willing to share the different between as the price quite attractive to me. BMW Direct Agent: 248K Parallel import BMW: 208K Thank you Regards Desmond

why take the risk? If you know how to avoid PI for cars, why can't you do the same for tyres?Parallel_Import_Tyres_Awareness_2.pdf Parallel_Import_Tyres_Awareness.pdf

I believe many Singaporeans on the street couldn't perform a parallel park or side parking very well. Here is one step by step on how to parallel park a car with detail explanation and pictures. http://www.carsut.com/how-to-parallel-park-a-car/ Please share your idea to parallel park a car in better way if u have one.

From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/STForum/Story/...ory_757250.html Do parallel importers ignore manufacturers' recall advice? Published on Jan 19, 2012 TWO years ago, I deviated from my habit of buying a car from an authorised dealer, opting instead to buy one from a parallel importer because of the huge savings. But I regret that decision now. Some time ago, I received a letter informing me that there was a manufacturer's recall for my Honda Stream. When I telephoned the workshop named, I was told that I had to pay for my car to be checked. From my experience with authorised distributors, I knew there was no such charge. But as the amount was small, I did not object. When I took my car to the workshop, the staff inspected it briefly and said there was no need to change anything. I was shocked because from my experience with authorised dealers, whenever the car company announced a recall, the part would be changed regardless of whether it was defective. When I demanded that the part be changed, the workshop manager said there was no stock and that I had to obtain the part from the parallel importer. When I checked with the parallel importer, I was told that as long as the workshop said the part was not faulty, there was no need to replace it. I discovered that some of my colleagues who had bought cars from parallel importers also faced the same situation during a recall. None had the car parts changed. The Land Transport Authority should investigate the practice for safety reasons. Sam Gan

Tightest parallel parking - Guinness World Record
Toovo1985 posted a topic in General Car Discussion
The tightest parallel parking measured 26 cm (10.24 in) and was achieved by Ronny Wechselberger a.k.a. "Ronny C-Rock" (Germany) on the set of Guinness World Records - Wir holen den Rekord nach Deutschland in Berlin, Germany on 2 April 2011. Check the video here -
Wow....really wonder if anyone have tried this in Singapore? ----- http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drive...626-286017.html How to parallel park in ANY tight spot By Tony Ng SINGAPORE - For a lot of drivers, parallel parking conjure images of sweaty palms, nervous glances and impatient motorists behind, hands positioned on horns. It's like kryptonite but much worse because sometimes you just can't get out of parallel parking in a congested city. How to parallel park in a tight spot It's a universal problem as well. A recent poll also revealed that nearly one third of European drivers (32 per cent) said they needed more than one attempt at parallel parking, with the figure rising to 41 per cent for women. The poll, commissioned by Ford, also said that new drivers across Europe rated parallel parking as stressful as Christmas shopping and twice as stressful as a visit from the in-laws. Here's a possible soluition though. Do it like the driver shown in the video, who literally uses the bumper to, well, bump the other cars. The video also helpfully demystifies how some cars can end up bumper to bumper in parallel lots. This writer understands that this is how parallel parking is done in Europe, especially France where bumpers are literally used as such: for bumping.

I like the Mark X but have not bought parallel imported cars before. How does buying such parallel imported cars work: 1. Do they come with 3 year warranty too? If so, who honours the warranty? Would the authorised agent recognise it? 2. Where do such cars go for 10km/ 20km etc checks? 3. If I get into any accident, is it true that the parts would be hard to obtain because the authorised dealers will not have them? And I probably need to wait for a few months for the parts to be sent to S'pore? 4. Would a parallel imported car be harder to resell? Why? 5. Is my insurance different if my car is parallel imported?

Came across this hilarious parallel car parking coaching video from STOMP, with sarcastic live commentary some more... Not sure if it is a make-believe effort but even if it is, it was still very funny . Really gota to admire the guy for his patience (though he was loosing it gradually ) & pity his partner (wifey, gf, sibling, friend or colleague) for trying her damnest to parallel park the small car. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...and_almost.html STOMPer Brian came across this funny video which shows a man trying to teach his girlfriend how to do a parallel parking. Said the STOMPer: "I came across this video online, which was quite funny. "I think all drivers scared of parallel parking." The man in the video was apparently trying to teach his girlfriend how to do a parallel parking, and almost ended up fighting. The person who uploaded the video said: "Parallel parking super FAIL and almost fight. "Wahahaha..see this clown try to park in a super big lot, but still cannot! Wish I turned on my camera earlier to show how she cannot make it!" The video editing was done by the original creator of the video.

There has been a lot of advertisements in the Classified ads for this particular BMW coupe and the price is really ATTRACTIVE. Some of them are going as low as $138k with guaranteed COE. Does anyone have any experience with this particular model and do you think it's a good idea to get it from PI ? I know the 320 engine isn't really that good but 138-142k for a BMW coupe is really enticing.. haha
