  3. Power! Singapore's skyline is set to welcome its tallest building in 2016 at a site above Tanjong Pagar MRT station. SINGAPORE: Singapore's skyline is set to welcome its tallest building in 2016 at a site above Tanjong Pagar MRT station. Developer GuocoLand said the 67-storey office-cum-residential tower will form part of the upcoming integrated development called the Tanjong Pagar Centre. At 290 metres high, the building will soar above Republic Plaza, One Raffles Place and UOB Plaza One, which are 280 metres tall each. The Tanjong Pagar Centre will feature TP180 - Singapore's tallest condominium that starts from 180 metres or 50 residential storeys above ground. GuocoLand said this unique feature should appeal to international investors. Group managing director of GuocoLand, Trina Loh said: "We are looking at the investment market, the international market. The product is very important. The product has to be unique in Tanjong Pagar. "I mean the way we have gone about it, is really - the residential block is above the office. In fact, there are no buildings - residential buildings where it starts 180 metres above ground. "We are very confident our product and the residential component starting at above 180 metres which is really above 50 storeys for residential should command a premium price compared to the area." Currently, a private condominium in the area is going for about S$2,000 per square foot. GuocoLand is looking to put up TP180 for sale in the second half of the year depending on market conditions. TP180 will have some 200 residential units of 1 to 4-bedroom apartments, and 38-storey Grade A Offices - making up 60 per cent of space in the mixed development. GuocoLand said it has yet to confirm an anchor tenant. Research head at Chesterton Suntec, Colin Tan said: "Most of the demand comes from the financial institutions. And I think at the moment, we may not see the light at the end of the tunnel yet. Demand is very uncertain, and because of that, rents may steadily come down." Besides residences and office space, Tanjong Pagar Centre spanning 1.7 million square of floor space will also feature six levels of retail and F&B space linked to the underground Tanjong Pagar MRT station. A luxury business hotel will also be built next to the main tower housing the residences and office space. - CNA/ck

  5. The National Heritage Board together with the Singapore & Malaysian Vintage Car Register held their 2012 Motoring Heritage Day at the Tanjong Pagar Railway Station over the weekend. It was a fitting location as the two day event not only showcased the cars from days gone by, but at the same time, the now unused train station was opened up for visitors to roam another relic of transportation. I popped by for a short visit on the second day, took in the sights and at the same time, took some photos. Honestly, i'm not much of a vintage man, the cars which interest me extend back to the most, the 1970s or late 1960s. There are some exceptions of course, muscle cars and rat rods are granted exemption from that rule too. Cars like this Alfa fit just nicely at the ends of that age group. It might be getting on in years but this is one of the most lovely cars in my book. It's nice to know Alfa hasn't (totally) lost their flair for producing some good looking cars. "Some" because there were some turds along the way. There were a couple of Karmann Ghia convertibles sitting around looking pretty. The Karmann Ghia might have started production in the mid 50s but continued to be made up to the mid-late 70s, so it still falls within range of cars which pique my interest. Another car with a similarly long production lifespan was this Fiat 500. Or if you are familiar with the movie, Cars, Luigi! Cars like this Frogeye Sprite get special exemption. Just look at those lights! See the link with our modern day MX5 grins? Pagoda SL. Audrey Hepburn. Imagine filling this up at the petrol station. Simply elegant back then.

  7. STRAITS TIMES Quote: Hundreds stranded at Tanjong Pagar after MRT breaks down Broken-down train leads to crowds at platform, station The crowd at Tanjong Pagar MRT station last night, after a train breakdown saw SMRT staff close the fare gates to prevent overcrowding on the platform. -- PHOTO: PHILIP LIM Hundreds of people were left stranded at Tanjong Pagar MRT station on Friday evening, after staff there closed the fare gates to prevent overcrowding on the platforms. The cause was an SMRT train which had broken down on the East-West Line, resulting in a 20-minute delay that affected some 6,500 commuters in total. An SMRT spokesman said a westbound train at Kallang MRT developed a fault at around 5.50pm, and had to be taken out of service. This led to the disruption on the westbound service between Kallang and Bugis. Trains were turned around at Eunos and Bugis to maintain the westbound service on unaffected stretches of the line. Full services resumed at around 6.10pm. Sauce: http://www.straitstimes.com/Breaking...ry_723610.html HWZ: http://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/showthread.php?t=3441312

  12. If you are not aware do be careful. Last week, I drove into the Malayan rail station at Tangjong Pagar but decided to drive out immediately. By driving around a loop, the attendance charge me $1! This is much more expensive than any other CBD car park where you get a 10 mins grace period. Luckily they will close soon, it is day light robbery. Try not to park there.
