There are plenty of strange sports in this world. People running from bulls. People running after cheese. Power Slap. But of course few places do weird quite like Japan. Introducing to you: Bo-taoshi. The name means 'topple the pole', and that's exactly the name of the game. Except of course its never quite so simple. You want teams? Oh, you get teams. 150 players, split into 75 offensive and 75 defensive - one holding your pole up, the other attacking another team to topple their pole. And you thought American Football teams were big. It's utter chaos. Literally people leaping onto one another, springboarding off bodies on the ground, clinging on to the pole (and other people) for dear life. It's a utterly wild combination of tug-of-war, rugby, capture-the-flag, sumo, and unleashed testosterone. Apparently played in schools (but increasingly rare), it's said that "the game promotes teamwork, toughness and sportsmanship". Here, see it for yourself: I wonder if people complaining about Uni orientation games being "too risque" would rather Bo-taoshi be played instead. Stay weird, Japan. ~ Desmond

Hi this seems like a silly question. But was just wondering what you guys use in your home. Always been using curtain tracks in my parents and current home. Generally OK with them except cleaning them is a pain in the butt. Cos the hooks can be difficult to take out and put back into the pencil pleat. My new place has pole system curtains and the curtains look good condition and was intending to reuse them. Then today, I realised the 2 sets of curtains can't really be pulled along the pole at all or with great difficulty. They can just be tied up with a tassel. Are pole curtains really that difficult to move. Is a curtain problem or I have to change back to track? As it's something I will do to totally black out the room at night, I can't have it bugging me everyday on the use.

Sharing for a good laugh, watch the clip, it's hilarious! :) http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/singaporeseen/this-urban-jungle/stagehand-accidentally-hits-getai-singer-with-pole-with-hilarious-results Stagehand accidentally hits getai singer with pole -- with hilarious results Posted on 07 September 2014 | 18,728 views | 8 comments A getai singer had an embarrassing moment after a stagehand accidentally hit her with a pole. A video of the incident went viral on facebook recently. The stagehand was dismantling a pole on stage, while the singer was performing in front of her. However, as she tilted the pole sideways, it slid between the legs of the singer. As the stagehand raised the pole, it ended up hitting the singer in the pelvic area. This caused her to hit some really awkward high notes, leading to hilarity. Both she and the stagehand took the incident in a light-hearted manner, thankfully. It is unclear where the incident took place in.

Was travelling along PIE at around 10:40am today towards airport after the Paya Lebar Rd exit when I first saw a big truck stopping in the middle lane then many cars on hazard lights at the opposite direction on Lane 1 further down. "Accident the other side," I said to my CO. Travelling further down a horrific sight that you only watch on TV or read on newspapers of serious traffic which always happened overseas: A big metallic pole pierching through the front passenger side of the windscreen of a white saloon car!!! Many folks have dismounted from their vehicles & congregating around the white car. Not sure what happened but if you were there on either side you would know how serious it looked. Just hope no one was hurt.

A scene you will probably never get to see, so take a moment and enjoy God at work at the North Pole. This is the sunset at the North Pole with the moon at its closest point. And, you also see the sun below the moon. An amazing photo and not one easily duplicated.

Michael Schumacher moved to shake off more of the rust of his three year retirement at the weekend by racing karts. After finishing just tenth at the wheel of his Mercedes in China, the seven time world champion reverted to 40 horse power at the Erftlandring circuit in Germany and set pole position in a Tony Kart for the 125cc KZ2 class. The 41-year-old German won the first of two heats, but was beaten in the second. Not only will Schumacher's W01 chassis be a new one in Barcelona this weekend, the package has been updated for a longer wheelbase that should satisfy his desire for a less understeering car. "I am hoping for a better race than I had in China and of course I would not mind having had better results so far," he said. Source: GMM

Bros I am thinking of DIY-ing a playhouse for my 5 cats. Something along this idea (see pic) but indoors. But first I need to buy an extendable metal pole which can stretch from floor to ceiling (~ 2.4m). Saw something in the Ikea catalogue which is for those exposed cupboards but it is kind of pricey at $180. I still need to buy boards so that costs something as well. Do you know of any place I can buy such poles at perhaps a cheaper rate? TIA.

Quote:http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/story/0,2...641-662,00.html Doug Robertson October 28, 2008 07:00pm A YOUNG man wrecked a Ferrari worth $250,000, but escaped serious injury, when he crashed into a Stobie pole at Walkerville, in Adelaide, today. The driver and his passenger have been taken to Royal Adelaide Hospital for treatment after the accident just before noon, AdelaideNow reports. Both men walked from the wreckage, leaving the expensive five-year-old 360 Modena model literally wrapped around the pole on Lansdowne Ave. The car, valued at around $250,000, crashed a few minutes after residents saw it "zinging" past their homes at high speed. "I was outside my house talking and we heard something fly up and it was this black Ferrari," said Vlado, who did not give his surname. "It sounded just like, `zing, zing", as it want past." Vlado said he walked "two blocks" around the corner when he saw a fire truck arrive to see the Ferrari smashed against the pole. He said the men were "lucky to be alive". http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C-peZkuVosc The instructions make it look so simple. From my point of view, it is so damn difficult! Wow! My standards for pole dancers have been raised. EDIT: Here is another I found. Apparently from the same instruction video. After watching her, I feel every bone in my body breaking to pieces.
