THE Infocomm Development Authority (IDA) has given the green light for OpenNet to be sold to a business trust owned by SingTel, despite strong opposition from the industry. Under the planned sale of Singapore's fibre broadband network announced on August 22, OpenNet's owners - SingTel, SP Telecommunications, Singapore Press Holdings and Canada's Axia NetMedia - would sell it for $126 million to NetLink Trust. But its day-to-day operations would be run by CityNet, the trustee-manager of NetLink Trust. Announcing this late Thursday evening, IDA said that it is satisfied that the sale would have no substantial lessening of competition or harm the public interest. End of day ,

I got my hdb house in 1988 and did my renovation with running of electrical & phone wires concealed inside my false ceiling. Then come Cablevision (now Starhub) and had to run an ugly trunking accross my dinning hall to hall just under the false ceiling....... So after staying for 18 years, I did a general renovation in 2007 to have all wire concealed and nicely done which I also expect to install the MIO system when Starhub lost the BPL rights to telecast. My Starhub, Singtel sockets and wiring were so well conceal behind a display cabinate so as to have a 40" flat screen TV mounted on the wall. KNN....................... now come OpenNet. Receive a letter with regards to the installing of fibre optic OpenNet cable. They are doing it for free and should we did not up the offer, the next time if we want to wire OpenNet, we have to pay $300+........ Its stated in their booklet that the fibre optic is for fast running broadband and also in future, able to watch HD & 3D TV movies. So its seem like I have to run the trunking just below the false ceiling again ........

Simple, OpenNet called, fixed appointment and never turn up. OpenNet even send SMS notification for reminder. Called up customer service and was told that due to system error, contractor not coming. WTF excuse is that? Waste my bloody saturday at home waiting for them and made me reschedule all my appointments. How to complain? Any emails or feedback channels i can go about? Best if got operation head email.

http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/sin...1093850/1/.html I thought that is really bad. I mean if the residents of a condo votes to not install opennet, why not? Why should IDA shove it down everyone's throat? If 90% of the residents have no need for it, why should they fork out the money to have fiber cable run into their development? I think it is a screwed up by IDA. IDA think that if they provide FREE but EXPOSED cabling, the majority will take up the offer, thus they tendered and budgeted for such. Which is stupid. Now 90% of the condos refused to do it as exposed trunking is butt ugly and hacking/concealment costs are high. So what does IDA do? They just shove it down the condos throat and ask the residents to pay for all the hacking costs.
