Tried Octane Boosters? Review them here! I've tried 104+ (black bottle one) and took my brick to the track with it. Power gains cannot feel but no detonations/pinging and engine runs smoothly and strongly. Problem was my tranny was overheating first, bummer

Today's Straits Times got one article mentioning the above statement. They even did a test on Impreza and WRX with different grades and brands of petrol for best power output. With different engine speed (rmp) on both cars, it shows that 95-octane has the best result! Of cos there are many other factors not put into consideration. However, I think this is a good indicator for some of us.

Any advise which petrol in Malaysia/JB has has Ron 98 ? Reason for asking is some tuning program had indicated optimise for Ron 98 petrol, and at time I do drive in JB as near to my house. " Stage 1+ Gas Type: Optimized for 93 Octane / 98 Ron gas " Or am i confuse over the words Octane ve Ron ? Or which petrol U guys normally go for ? Used to Pump Shell V Power(not sure if it is racing) in JB but indicated at (minimum RON97) whereas in SG is 98.

A friend told me if the owner doesn't drive his car too often and his car is always parked outdoor exposed to hot weather, he shouldn't pump full tank petrol because the full tank will take weeks to be used up ie the petrol left in the tank will be subject to high temperature (from hot sun) for too long and its octance value will drop. As a result, if he pushes the engine hard when the octane value drops too low, it's no good for the engine, and the engine may "piang" !!!? [sweatdrop] His advice:- if the car is not driven often, just pump enough petrol each time to last say the next 3-4 weeks. I am not sure what he said is correct.

I was caught a few times in Msia with low fuel and the available fuel in the village is ron95 from bhg or petronas. How i wish i had octane booster to add in to the ron95 fuel in these situations. Any inputs or advice.

My car manual recommendations for fuel is at minimum 91 RON. I am to have a long trip to Thailand and found out that Thailand mostly selling Gasohol 95 E10 ( 10% ethanol ) except for a few stations selling pure Benzene . The highest the sell is 91 RON. In Singapore, I normally fill up my car 95 or 98. And the manufacturer told me Gasohol will not be allowed for my car. So I was thinking, if I head North, I have to pump 91 RON for my entire trip but definitely the performance will be very sluggish. I was wondering, any bros have experience pumping lower grade fuel and pump in some Octane booster to boost up? If so, what brand is recommendable and how much must I fill for a 80 Lit tank? thank you very much and any inputs appreciate!!!

I've been scouring the interweb and haven't really been able to find an answer... Does anyone know what is the minimum octane level usable for the Daihatsu Copen? 95 or 98? Also as its a turbo (albeit a tiny 660cc), does that mean that I should stick to w50 engine oil? (urban driving only, no NSH). TIA.

My ride 05 civic based on SG fuel RON 92 - When RPM go above 3K the engine vibrating violently and will lag before picking up speed RON 95 - When RPM go above 3.5K the engine vibrating abit but will not lag when picking up speed. RON 98

Hi guys, I came across this passage when was reading an article about improving car performance: "Higher compression ratios produce more power, up to a point. The more you compress the air/fuel mixture, however, the more likely it is to spontaneously burst into flame (prior to the spark plug igniting it). Higher octane gasolines prevent this sort of early combustion. That is why high-performance cars generally need high octane gasoline - their engines are using higher compression ratios to get more power." Is it true? Does it mean that those car with high compression ratio need to use high grade fuel e.g. v-power?

Does anybody knows where I can get octane booster for petrol in SG at a reasonable price? My car can only burn 98RON and I've been pumping a lot of 97RON lately... and might have to pump only 95 in Thailand, so it'll be handy to have some of these booster babies on hand. Thanks in advance.

March 15, 2009 Return of cheapest grade petrol By Christopher Tan CALTEX has reintroduced 92-octane, the cheapest grade of petrol, at its pumps here in response to the economic downturn. This grade of petrol, which disappeared from its stations in 2000, is now back at the pumps at its Pasir Panjang, Bukit Merah and Alexandra stations. All 33 stations of the smallest oil company here will have it by March 24. Not only that, Caltex is pricing its 92-octane at $1.536 a litre before discount - 2.2 cents lower than its rivals, making it the cheapest petrol here.

This should only be of interest to our bro's and sis's here that drive JDM cars. I really wasn't concerned about the octane rating till recently as i got a grocery getter JDM car, and I thought it was odd that I would need to run 98ron fuel here in sg, so i checked (previously I drove the 180sx in Melb so it was automatically 98ron. Same thing with my Sera). Anyway the manual should state if the car uses regular, super/premium, or super plus/super premium. At the pumps in Japan, regular = 89RON, super/premium = 96RON and super plus/super premium = 100RON I spoke to my former exporter in Japan, and he told me that all cars can run super/premium, but for the hi-po cars (that require super plus/super premium), their ignition timing would be retarded by the ECU (he knows this as these cars are his work). This pretty much means that all the JDM CTR's, GTR's etc would probably not be making their rated power on our 98RON fuel. Does anyone know if the stated fuel in the manuals for JDM cars that regular and super/premium are the min RON rating, or is it the recommended RON rating. I'm asking because if its the recommended RON rating, there wouldn't be an performance gains if we used a higher octane fuel as the ECU will not advance the timing any further, but on the other hand, if it was the min RON, then there will be a gain in a higher octane fuel is used, but the engine will not retard the timing if a lower octane fuel is used thus increasing the risk of early detonation on high loads (taking our local octane ratings into consideration).

KUALA LUMPUR : With oil prices near record highs, Malaysia could cut subsidies for higher grades of petrol in order to keep prices down for middle income groups and the poor, reports said on Sunday. The government expects to spend 35 billion ringgit (10.7 billion dollars) on fuel subsidies this year if oil stays around 100 dollars per barrel, and has already indicated there would be some cuts ahead. Consumer Affairs Minister Shahrir Samad was quoted saying the bulk of the subsidies would go for a new octane 95 fuel for use in most vehicles, while a higher octane petrol for luxury cars and SUVs would get less state support. According to the New Straits Times, Shahrir said the government would save costs by mainly subsidising only one type of fuel. It currently subsidises two types, octane 92 and octane 97. "The goal is to have subsidies targeted and more focused at those who need it, such as the lower and middle-income group, and giving a choice to the rich on what petrol they want to fill in their tanks," he said. "The system is a shift in how we price petrol, but it is necessary if we are to lessen the burden on the lower and middle-income groups," the paper quoted him as saying. Malaysia imposed its highest-ever fuel price rises in February 2006, citing the spiralling cost of crude oil. The move was condemned by political and civil groups, arguing it was unnecessary as the country is a net exporter of oil. The central bank recently said that rising prices of fuel, commodities and food will see headline inflation for the year rise to 2.5-3 percent from 2.0 percent in 2007. - AFP/de

Came across some interesting news from recent Express Press Release about HP-1 High Performance Fuel Additive dated May 9, 2006. Not sure how true the claim of this revolutionary new Fuel Additive - increases Octane by 1-3 points, improves mileage by up to 30 per cent, reduces exhaust emissions by up to 80 per cent. A: A major benefit, and of primary importance to most customers, is the immediate increase in power and fuel economy due to the increase in octane. The typical octane improvement is in the range of 1 to 3 numbers, but this of course depends on the fuel used. Some people report immediate improvement in performance. Others comment on improved fuel economy. ALL-IN-ONE also replaces lead protection, removes combustion chamber deposits and reduces smoke. It is important to note that the results will vary, depending on a number of factors, including the condition of the car, the quality of fuel, driving conditions, etc For US$50 enough to treat about 5000 litre of petrol. Works out to less than SIN$1 for every of our tanks to have higher octane and even better performance if the claim is accurate. Hi Ususally I pump 95 for my sunny. Occasionally I will pump 98 or even V power if I have to drive my in-laws over the wknd or when the car will be heavy laden. Will pumping higher Octane spoil my car?

Hi guys, there is alot of discussion why Czech auto brought in the MPI instead of the 1.6 FSI which is in the golf V. 1) less power and less fuel efficiency when using 95 instead of 98. True, because i get the same problem with my regular 1.6SR. the car is smoother, has better mileage with 98 than 95, so i don't see why the fsi is any different. 2) Fsi so must use 98 octane? I have come back from US and most of the VW and Audi there are 2.0T FSI versions, including the Audi A4 2.0T fsi i got as a rental. The problem is, they don't have 98 fuel, in fact, they don't even have 95 fuel. What they have as the highest is 91. We don't see them having problems with the fsi engines so i don't see why fsi can't use 95 fuel. Yes, they have lower power, etc, but that also happens to regular engines too! I know europe and japan have low sulphur fuel, but i don't think US does and neither do we ..... attached pic of US fuel pump at Chevron i took this with my hp:

well, by now all knows that oil price is moving up and up. i remembered the SA mentioned to me when i collected my Aveo Sedan 1 year ago that i better go for 95 petrol. with the oil price going up, i tried getting 92 for 2 tank full now, surpricingly the Fuel consumption improves by a little. issue is, is it okay to use 92 for Aveo (not the new aveo5)? will it "kill" my engine prematurely?

Does this product have any adverse effects on the engine? i put it into my full tank yesterday and today i have creaky noises. a little worried. thought of using it to clean up the injectors.
