Rattle noises are very common in many cars, even when new. There are a thousand causes of unwanted noises in a car and I'm sure many of you had spent many frustrated hours trying to rid them. I am very sensitive to interior cabin noises and will always spend alot of efforts trying to identify and eliminate them. So I thought of starting this thread for everybody to share how they solve their unwanted car noises. Here, I want to share one type that had been bugging me for 6 months and how to solve it. I have other cases and I will subsequently post them in this thread, with photos to guide. I drive a 2014 Sylphy. This particular rattle noise is a single "tiak" sound that sounded usually when turning or small road perturbations at slower speed. It seems to come from front passenger dash area. It sounded like something loose hitting gently against plastic. Had tried to rectify it with tan chong during last 3 servicing but not successful. I was pretty sure the source is from within the cabin or dash area and not from engine bay area so I had been spending majority of my efforts internally. I was wrong. It came from engine bay area. There is this cable that was not secured, at the battery side, near to the front left suspension top mount. See photo. If i manually hit it against the metal chassis, it produced a similar tiak sound. So i use a cable tie to secure it so it does not move freely. After that, that tiak sound was no longer there. I tested through 1 day of normal driving. I am not sure what signal this cable carries but there is a similar one at the other side. I secured that as well. So look around your engine bay area for such unsecured cables and clamp it down!

Hi, I have been driving my new car for almost a month. Notice that the road noise (coming from the floor board) is getting unbearable. Dunno if i am too sensitive or the car is like this. When compared with other Jap cars, it was rumored that Toyota Corollas should be one of the more quiet ones. Maybe this one assembled in THAILAND is of lower quality or something. Anyone did any sound proofing to your ride and found a great improvement. I am dying to know the difference before I commit my ride, and $$$. Also, after turning off the ignition and leaving the car, there is always a ticking sound from the bottom of the car. I suspect its the expansion and contraction of the exhaust pipe. Wah!!! Why other cars do not have such "special" sound. Its super irritating. Sounds like the car is gonna explore or something. Hope to hear from anyone........ Thanks.

Hi I am driving a 5 year old Suzuki. Recently changed quite a fair bit of parts below as due to wear and tear. 1) shocks 2) lower control arm 3) stabilizer link 4) steering rack and tie rods 5) rotors and brake pads My car is stock. No mods done. After installing the above parts I started having cracking noises below at very low speeds like 10km/h. If I can recall correctly the noises started having noises after steering rack and brake components were replaced. The sound is worse than before I changed anything. Any advice?

My car has been making funny noises (not all the time) in the last few days...... i have already booked appointment with the workshop but would like to check with you guys what are the likely causes, in case the mechanic tries to smoke me later........... sometimes there are slight knocking sounds coming from the wheels/brakes/suspensions (not sure exactly where) when i release the accelerator (for example, while beginning to slow down but without touching the brake pedal), but once i step on the brakes or accelerator the sounds will disappear ............. it usually occurs when the speed drops to about 40kmh. could it be the tyres (which have about 10% thread left at the rear, front ones are ok), or the brakes??? or the shocks etc??? drivesahfts?? (its a AWD).. many thanks for comments...

Hi, Recently installed a new power amp and component front speakers while the HU driving the back component speakers at AutoBac. The sound system is fitted with high quality shielded RCA from HU to power amp. Not sure about the cable from CD Changer to HU. I realised that the new setup is very sensitive to handphone interference. At times the static noise from the handphone reception could be heard from the front component speakers even when the sound system is turned off!! Occasionally, not sure if i notice correctly, i could heard the high pitch sound of the engine when the car accelerates...BEfore the upgrade i did not hear any of such noises. Anyone has similar experience? How to remove this? Will installing HVS helps to clean up the noises in the electrical system?
