  1. OK, I am trying out a new series of automotive related discussion thread. Let me know if you prefer something like these or otherwise. There are hundreds of new model been rolled out worldwide by varies auto manufacturers each year, but the naming convention can be very different among manufacturer. Some would goes with fanciful or eye catching name, such as i, Wake, Up!, Naked, Today, Morning, while others choose to stick with names that have past through several generations such as Corolla, Civic, Golf, and different sizes of paper (A1 to A8). And here's the interesting part, not all model are the same as their predecessor (or ancestor). I don't mean the look of course, but it term of characteristic or even class. I will first use the following 2 examples for illustrating my point. Škoda Rapid The 2nd Generation (1984 - 1990) Škoda Rapid was famous being described as "the poor man’s Porsche" after Autocar and Motor defined the Škoda Rapid "a beginners' course to the 911", as it had a rear-mounted engine and rear-wheel drive, just like the Porsche 911. This generation of Rapid is gaining in popularity as a classic car with Garde and convertible models being most sought after. The current 4th Generation (2012 onward) Škoda Rapid are: a 5-door liftback and a hatchback originating from Europe, a 4-door sedan from China based on the same platform, and India's version of a smaller sedan Rapid originating from India, based on the PQ25 platform, all FWD and loaded with smallish and eco friendly 1.0 - 1.6L engine. In your opinion, should a nameplate be used only on the same type of car, so as to link it with its heritage, or it doesn't really matter, as it is just a name afterall?
  2. OK, I admit I just get to know this site recently, and had a good laugh at some of the "news". Enjoy... e:Ny1 was meant to be a secure password, Honda finally admits The Honda e:Ny1 was never meant to be called that, the company has finally conceded, after it emerged that the name was actually the result of a comical administrative error. According to a leaked internal report, a member of staff accidentally copy-and-pasted part of a secure password into the online trademark application. An investigation was launched but the employee was spared disciplinary action on the grounds that it was ‘long past 3pm on a Friday’ when the form was submitted. “This is all very embarrassing,” said the employee on the condition of anonymity. “But who among us hasn’t made a boo boo at the end of the week?” “My heart goes out to everybody who’s had to type out e:Ny1 since then. I’m also gutted for my mother in law, because if passwords didn’t need at least one number, capital letter and special character, that Honda would have her maiden name now. “It would’ve tickled her pink. And she’s in her seventies, so she undoubtedly would’ve bought one.” Honda has now called for members of the public to suggest a new name for e:Ny1. Popular candidates on social media include the Honda Typo, Honda Captcha and Honda TwoFactorAuthentication. Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the Intellectual Property Office declined to comment officially, but said: “This isn’t the first time this has happened. I’m not pointing fingers, but did you think Toyota bZ4X was intentional?”

  6. recommended by the local Varta battery distributor to two shops in the west. one shop offered me a varta battery of the capacity i wanted but the battery has no indication of the Varta brand on the body. It has a BMW marked on the body presumably it is used on BMW car but mine is not a BMW but the capacity is suitable for my car. the battery does not come in a box as most new batteries do. it is wrapped in cellophane plastic. It looks very much like a new battery to me. the boss said is a new battery and it just came in a few days ago. he said could check the barcode but when I scanned the barcode the search ended with no result can this be a new battery as the shop is recommended by the local varta distributor
  7. [extract] A name is something that we use to distinguish or designate one item from another. For example, in the automotive world, an auto company will give different names for their models to distinguish one model from another. So that when we see a Camry, we know it

We share the same roots as Esso Malaysia Berhad (EMB), tracing our lineage to 1933 with the formation of Standard Vacuum Oil Company. In the past 80 years, Petron has evolved to meet the challenges of a dynamic market. Today, we are the largest oil refining and marketing company in the Philippines, supplying nearly 40% of the country
  15. It is obvious that any opposition will command 30% votes in any contest and WP reputation will add 10% to it and good candidates + issues concerning Singaporeans will swing the vote for opposition to victory. I hope those in the opposition camp realised that, especially people like Desmond Lim and some parties like NSP. In fact, I hope NSP realised that some of their dead wood must go. Nicole Seah factor alone can get better % than Tampines GRC team under Goh Meng Seng and that itself is a surprise to me, though I do like what Nicole Seah has said and done to influence his peers and put a lot of old timers to shame. If I have my way, there will only be 2 opposition parties in Singapore and that is the WP and SDP.This 2 parties have clear objectives and know where they stand. To me NSP is just not branded enough to make Singaporeans know where they stand. Moreover WP and SDP are the ones who have won in elections before, so at least they have the name there. For SPP and Chiam, I wouldnt consider them anything significant and especially since Chiam was the one who founded SDP. For that I propose SPP to merge with SDP with Chiam be given a special position in the party. It was reported that Chee did tried to invite Chiam back but he declined. NSP should merge with WP. And Reform party either WP or SDP. Kenneth's father JBJ was from WP so that make sense but RP's stand seem to be more closer to SDP's so either merging with one of them is fine with me. That will make the opposition parties stronger and can field good candidates in one GRC. As for SDA, they can close shop, even though I voted for them in Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC. I am very sure if a WP team contest in my ward it will be much closer. And a WP team in AMK GRC will see LHL's vote drop to less than 60%.

  19. The important of a business name..............koh lian sia............ A Belgian chocolate company is the latest casualty of an unfortunate name-association which saw it linked to a notorious terror group. By Brianna Roberts 7 NOV 2014 - 10:01 AM UPDATED YESTERDAY 3:42 PM 0 The makers of ISIS chocolates will change their name to ‘Libeert’ to avoid association with the terror group formerly known as ISIS. The director of the company, which has been around since 1923, Ignace Libeert, said they experienced a slump in sales as media coverage of the terror group's activity intensified. “When we saw that the orders, which were planned to get in at the beginning September for this Christmas, they didn't come in from the States or the UK, and we said: 'What's going on here?' “And they said yes, we have orders but the name ISIS is actually disturbing because our consumers are very upset with that name.” The chocolate company is the latest in a long list of companies to suffer from the unwanted association. The family of an 8-year-old Sydney girl called Isis came forward last month, complaining they had been discriminated against because of the association. And more than 38,000 Isis’s from across the world have signed an online petition to the media to stop using their name to describe the terror group. A British adult retailer apologised in August after launching a range of lingerie named Isis, but said it did not support jihadists in Iraq and Syria and was standing by its name. The word originally comes from an Egyptian goddess who was worshipped as an ideal mother and wife, and until recently has had mostly positive connotations. Chocolate bars bearing the name ISIS have already hit the shops for Christmas, so the company is now preparing for the Easter holidays. It will take until January 2015 for the full transition to the company's new name to be completed. http://www.sbs.com.au/news/article/2014/11/07/isis-chocolates-change-name-after-sales-slump
