Some sources aren't as healthy as you think For years we’ve been fed the line that a diet of red meat, supplements and protein shakes can have real health benefits. If only it were that simple. A recently published by researchers at the University of Eastern Finland, who tracked 2,400 middle-aged men over the course of 22 years, reported that a high-protein diet resulted in a 49% greater risk of heart failure. Many large, long-term population studies have also found that people who consume large amounts of protein, especially in the form of red and processed meat, are more likely to be obese or develop type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular disease and colon cancer. Thomas Sanders, professor of nutrition and dietetics at King’s College London, says the idea of a protein gap in our diet was first broached by a professor at MIT, Nevin Scrimshaw, in the 1960s. He claimed that the protein that comes from plant sources such as vegetables was deficient in vital amino acids and that we therefore needed to eat more animal protein. Perhaps one of the biggest problems with high-protein diets is that the excess protein typically indicates an imbalanced diet, as it comes with a deficiency in another crucial food source. “A balanced diet is one that meets all your nutrient requirements and prevents chronic disease,” Sanders says. “High-protein diets are often low in fibre, and we think colorectal cancer and obesity are linked to low intakes of fibre. There has been so much negativity about fat over the years, but you see in the big population studies that weight gain typically occurs when a big proportion of the diet comes from animal protein.” https://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2018/jun/04/are-you-eating-too-much-protein?utm_source=pocket&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=pockethits

I see that there are some retired people in MCF. I am wondering how much do a person need to retire and support what sort of lifestyle? For my case, I am thinking like 1 paid freehold terrace house and 1 paid 99yr condo at maybe AMK area. 1 paid car. 200k cash. Then I will "retire" by getting a simple, stress free job that pays maybe 4k/month, enough to cover my expenses, travel twice a year. The condo can rent out and be sold when my single kid needs to go uni. When my kid get married, sell off the terrace and get 2 small place and rent one out. u you guys think it is enough to retire like that? please note I am not going to full retirement but rather getting a simpler job so I will probably still get some income.

As above. my suspension seems perfectly fine now but I'm planning ahead. Not sure what's the service interval. I do occasional tracking and Road trips in Malaysia and usually corner real hard but I usally drive on pavements only. The dealer is Fong Kim, but I'm wondering if there are other alternatives. Cos they are pretty busy and I have this feeling that the price will not be too cheap correct me if i'm wrong I'm hoping the servicing costs below $400 for parts and labour and that it means that the coils are in 10/10 condition after tt. considering the set cost me below $1.3k when new. i'm willing to do it up north to save costs, if the job can be done in less than 6 hours. pardon my ignorance because i'm new to this. if it matters, my ride is a getz 1.1

Does anyone know much SAF regulars make a month? Is it true the LTCs and COLs make at least $10k +? What about fighter pilots? Junior officers?

This question was asked on a forum I frequent but I'm interest in knowing whats the opinion of Singaporean driver/car owners. I purposely posted the poll in whp because what matters is what the car can put to the ground not at the engine. My opinion is anything more than 500whp is too much and really no point. So how much power is too much for street in your opinion?

All this minor started to have Intimate relationship starting in Secondary school. This is what I saw just now while running some errands at Punggol. I do not know what school is this but this school students mostly in pairs. And they don't even care who is watching them. Hugging, fondling, kissing........... this too much for public to accept. Is it very hard for parents to educate their children nowadays? I have a son and a daughter myself.

I was browsing thru sgcarmart and saw this ad on a used Hilux double cab pickup. The dep is whopping 10K/yr which is higher than big sedan like Camry and Accord. What is so special about this pickup truck that can command such a high resale? Bcos it is rare? This amount of dep can buy sport sedan like Euro R. Can this pickup run faster than a Euro R? Ridiculous pricing. http://www.sgcarmart.com/used_cars/info.ph...238&DL=2047

Cost of Youth Games goes up three-fold An extra $265 million needed to meet the cost will be borne by MCYS and Ministry of Finance SINGAPORE - The cost of organising the inaugural 2010 Youth Olympic Games has risen three-fold. With 38 days left to the opening ceremony at The Float@Marina Bay on Aug 14, it will now cost $387 million to stage the Games, up from its original estimate of $122 million during the Games' bid phase, before Singapore was named host by the International Olympic Committee in February 2008 after a keen tussle with Moscow. Despite the increase, both the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS) and the Singapore Youth Olympic Games Organising Committee (Syogoc) said there was no cause for alarm. The extra $265 million required to meet the cost of organising the Games will be borne by the MCYS and Ministry of Finance. Syogoc has also raised more than $50 million in sponsorship, but MediaCorp understands the bulk of it is in kind. Speaking at a news conference yesterday, MCYS Permanent Secretary Niam Chiang Meng said: "The original bid was an estimate. There was no precedent or template ... When we made the bid, the figures were based on specifications not fully spelt out by the International Olympic Committee or by the international federations. "It was only very recently that the sporting events had their formats spelt out ... which is why many of these things can only be finalised so late." Technology accounted for the biggest spike - $97 million (see box). Added Mr Niam: "The estimate is not fixed, although it is likely to be lower than higher." The Youth Olympic Games, which run from Aug 14 to 26, will feature 201 events across 26 sports, with some 3,600 athletes from 205 National Olympic Committees (NOCs) competing. About 20,000 volunteers will help run the Games, and about 370,000 spectators are expected to watch the two-week event. Apart from having top sporting facilities, there are other spin-offs. On the economic front, $260 million worth of tenders and contracts were awarded to local companies for the Games, and some $46 million to international companies with local subsidiaries, while conservative estimates from the Singapore Tourism Board expect tourism receipts to hit $57 million. In terms of international media value, the Games is expected to be worth $86 million - $11 million from print and online, and $75 million from broadcast, where some 1.5 billion viewers worldwide are expected to watch the Games. Already, nearly 2,000 international media networks are keen to broadcast the multi-sports events. Socially, an Olympic education programme will be introduced to 430 schools, while some 260 community-led events involving 135,000 people will be held. Said Mr Niam: "We're making history as the first hosts, but at the same time, we're also the first to have to iron out the kinks in the system

Even can say which cp somemore and how the process went... Taking the stand for the first time, former Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) chief Ng Boon Gay on Monday came clean on his relationship with former IT sales executive Cecilia Sue. 15 minutes into the beginning of his testimony in the afternoon, he recounted how their affair started between end-2008 and early 2009. Accused of four counts of sex-related graft, Ng said he had a three-year extra-marital relationship with Sue during which they had oral sex 20 to 30 times in various car parks and other secluded spots across Singapore. Among these locations were the Singapore General Hospital car park, a car park in Mount Faber, East Coast Park and the Halifax car park in Novena. The first encounter occurred at East Coast Park, about two to three months after they first met at around the end of 2008. Each intimate session that followed throughout the time they were together was consensual and lasted about 30 minutes, he said.

My car which I bought 2nd hand comes with a slightly uneven driver side seat. Think the previous owner used to sit on one side of the seat. It's causing my spine problems as I easily spend 1-1.5hrs in my car a day. It's an Lexus IS250 and getting a stock seat seems like it'll cost me too much and most stockists in Singapore have told me they don't have it. So I'm looking for an alternative. Any suggestions? How much would a good seat cost?
