Dunno posted here, but this deserves a thread! This breaks my heart! Good boy and this had to happen! Sigh. http://youthphoria.stomp.com.sg/breaking_news/article/4097 Student killed in Sin Ming Ave accident was excited about poly life By Joyce Lim The Straits Times Sunday, May 11, 2014 It was a dream come true when Tien Kang Fan got into a polytechnic. The former Bishan Park Secondary School student was thrilled as he had not thought his results were good enough. He had started at Ngee Ann Polytechnic just two weeks ago, in what his mother said were "probably the happiest two weeks in his life". But it has all come to an end for the 18-year-old logistics and supply management student, who was taken off life support on Thursday morning after he was run over by a lorry on Monday and left brain dead. Getting into a polytechnic had given Kang Fan hope of a good future, in which he could provide a better living for his parents, said his good friend Koh Jun Wee, 18. And he had worked very hard, his father Tien Yoon Seong, 49, a construction supervisor, told The Straits Times at his wake. "My son was never afraid of hard work. He spent long hours studying every day to prepare for his O-level examinations," he said. "He needed help with his schoolwork, but delayed asking for tuition as he was worried if I could afford the extra expenses." Kang Fan was crossing the road at Sin Ming Avenue just past 7am last Monday when the accident took place. He was on his way to school. He was excited about poly life, said his mother Lee Kim Ling, 52, a hawker assistant. She recalled how he would jump onto her bed every night to tell her about his day in school. "He was like a big boy, showing me photographs that he had taken in school of his activities and friends," said Madam Lee, her voice trembling. Kang Fan's parents had no doubt that the second of their three sons would do well in life. Many described him as sensible and hard-working. Kang Fan's former cashier colleague at FairPrice, who gave her name only as Madam Lew, said: "Whenever there is a school break, he would work to earn some extra money. I always see him taking his mother to the supermarket and he would pay for the groceries. "He would also help the elderly carry their groceries. It's a pity he died so young," said the 50-year-old. Police said a 55-year-old Singaporean lorry driver is helping with investigations. The accident killed another pedestrian, Madam Khoo Thuan Kheng, 72. Almost a hundred relatives, friends and teachers as well as former colleagues from FairPrice turned up at Kang Fan's wake in Ang Mo Kio. He was cremated on Saturday.

I was around the area so I went to buy 2 pieces of aircon filter from Sparks Car Care @ Sin Ming Little did i know that this turn out to be a time wasting purchase and a bad experience. I went to Sin Ming, feels like I went to Sim Lim. The counter staffs are friendly. no doubts about that. no fault there. I told a staff which 2 pc i need for 2 different car models. Car A & B and the YOM respectively + specifically say it's for the new model of Car A & B. as both Car A and B have 2 entirely different model running around. The first mistake that the counter staff made was quoting the price w/o GST. quote price if GST is chargeable must be with GST - http://www.iras.gov.sg/irasHome/page04.aspx?id=10830 Only upon payment then I realized its quoted b4 GST. This is unacceptable and especially for a company of such size and reputation. Personally, I don't think this reflect badly on the staff but rather management who ought to know and train the staff on govt regulations. anyhow no big deal. To the next part. Next when they retrieve the AC filters for me to make payment, I insist on checking. It was 2 pieces for Car A. one for the older model, one for the new. The check is simply done by looking at the box cover of the filter where it was checked against the model it was made for. How simple is it to differentiate? I can pick it up from Stamford's shelf myself. Not rocket science. When I told the staff the mistake, he still insist it is just the sizing, it doesn't matter. Maybe to him, but its my $ and my car. I explained to them the differences and insist on getting the correct one for Car B. turns out Car B filter was out of stock. Now, I don't know if they tried to pulled a fast one by simply replacing an out of stock one with a similar/usable but not correct part or an honest mistake. If I service my car with them will they get the parts right given a simple thing like ac filter also can get wrong? Well, I will never find out as I never have and never will. I am not afraid to put the workshop name simply because I am not libeling them as it's the truth.

Hi MCF, I forget what's the number and address for this cheap workshop located in Sin Ming industrial estate. It is run by an uncle, he specialises in bumper repair and painting for a very small fraction of money compared to other workshop. I had my boot repaired by him 1 year ago. Some how, lost his number and address. Asking on behalf of my brother in law, as he got into a 50/50 accident with another party.

Workers at Sim Ming Ave car workshops were having a normal day at work, when a nervous looking LION suddenly came out of no where...seemingly hungry because of how skinny his body looks. Everyone freaked out, jumping over each other, some locking themselves up in cars, some in the offices, and some just ran away...but one brave guy took the picture of this Lion without making a sound....and there was the SHOCK when the Lion turned around.. Turns out that one co-worker had shaved shaved his dog in such a way to look like a Lion.... (Extract from SHC Forum, post by Alvinyzw)

July 15, 2008 Ren Ci case: Arrest comes after five-month probe At issue are loans made by the hospital amounting to several million dollars By Chong Chee Kin PUBLIC FACE OF REN CI: Venrable Ming Yi is also an abbot at a Geylang monastery as well as several temples in Malaysia and Hong Kong. -- ST FILE PHOTO THE long-time head of Ren Ci Hospital, the Venerable Ming Yi, was arrested yesterday and stepped down from all his positions at the charity. He posted police bail of $200,000 last night and left the Commercial Affairs Department at the Police Cantonment Complex at about 11pm after giving his statement. He was wearing his monk robes. His arrest means that both the former chiefs of Singapore's two biggest charities - Ren Ci and the National Kidney Foundation - have been implicated in financial irregularities in recent years. The arrest of the face of Ren Ci comes five months after he went on long leave when the police were asked to probe the charity's finances. The Health Ministry found 'possible irregularities' in Ren Ci's books after an audit. At the heart of the issue were questionable loans made by the hospital, amounting to several million dollars. Some of these loans were allegedly given to companies with links to the Venerable Ming Yi. There were also loans given to a helper with the charity as well as investments made over the years in his name. As a result of the probe, Ren Ci lost the right to grant its supporters tax exemption for donations. Contacted yesterday, the monk's lawyers, Senior Counsel Andre Yeap and Mr Hamidul Haq from law firm Rajah & Tann, told The Straits Times that their client has cooperated fully with the authorities. The Straits Times understands that while Venerable Ming Yi has surrendered his passport to the police, he was told he would be allowed to travel, subject to conditions. His assets were not frozen. It is understood that Venerable Ming Yi, who is also an abbot at a Geylang monastery as well as several temples in Malaysia and Hong Kong, was arrested for criminal breach of trust. Mr Yeap said: 'His current intention is to seek vindication and it looks as though this can only be achieved by defending these charges in court vigorously. 'None of the offences related to matters which involved any allegations of personal gain...Some of the matters have already been approved by the board of Ren Ci previously.' In light of his arrest, Venerable Ming Yi has informed Ren Ci's board that he will step down from all his positions - including his present post as honorary chief executive - 'pending the resolution of the current investigations'. The 46-year-old shot to fame with his daredevil stunt of abseiling down the 45-storey Suntec Tower Two in the charity's maiden TV fund-raiser in 2003. The show raised more than $7 million in each of its last two runs. He has been the chief of the charity, which takes care of chronically sick patients, since its inception in 1994. Ren Ci is the second-largest charity under MOH with reserves of about $33.5 million. It raised about $30 million last year. It runs two medical after-care facilities, one at Buangkok View and the other at Moulmein with over 444 beds. A third hospital, being built near Tan Tock Seng Hospital, is due to be completed in September. [email protected] http://www.straitstimes.com/Free/Story/STIStory_257701.html
