Authorities said they received a call for assistance at about 6.30pm. The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) also said it received a call for a water rescue at 21 Esplanade Drive at about the same time. "Upon SCDF's arrival, a body was seen floating in the water," it said. "SCDF rescuers retrieved the body from the surface of the water. "The person was pronounced dead at the scene by an SCDF paramedic." Police added that it does not suspect foul play based on preliminary investigations.- 13 replies

This makes me quite sad. Removing one of the most iconic Merlion in Singapore to boost tourism at a budget of $90 million dollars? Shouldn't the Merlion be incorporated into future plans instead? Bring your kids to see the Merlion one last time because in SG, nothing lasts forever. Sentosa is just another tourist trap now.

Can anyone confirm these story I heard in regards to this afternoon lighting strikes our Singapore icon the "Merlion" at the mouth of Singapore river....... It happen around 5pm and the lighting striked the Merlion tail. Is this a Good or Bad omen ....... Tried to gather news from CNA and until now nothing reported in the news.
