  2. Recently a mass culling of stray dogs in Seremban create some hoo-ha in Malaysia and caught quite a fair bit of attention. Here is the link. https://www.worldofbuzz.com/viral-photos-of-stray-dogs-being-euthanised-publicly-seremban-send-msians-into-outrage/ Lets share some views on what do you think of such acts by the gov given that there is news of rabies in 3 states in Malaysia. What about the shooting of crows here? Mad cow disease and bird flu saw thousands of these animals put to sleep? Is it cruel to do this? Or sld there be other ways to control the situation? I think dog lovers are going to be firing at full power.. But I think it is more than dogs only..

  4. As reported in CNA : Mass hysteria' closes Bangladeshi schools Posted: 10 July 2008 1415 hrs DHAKA- A mystery illness health experts are describing as a type of "mass hysteria" has struck students at four schools in Bangladesh in the past week, forcing them to close temporarily. The condition appears highly contagious -- as soon as one student becomes ill, others are immediately struck with similar symptoms, usually headaches, acute pain and even fainting, officials say. Most of the victims are teenage girls, said Salahuddin Khan, chief medical officer of Jessore district, where the affected schools are. "It's a peculiar disease. I've never seen anything like it," he told AFP. "It started after a girl fainted at a school. Soon enough dozens of her friends complained of acute headaches, restlessness and body pains. They were all affected within minutes." Speculation among local media about the origin of the baffling illness has been rife, with a top army doctor even telling state-owned broadcaster BTV that it was caused by poisonous gas "sabotage" against the impoverished country. "So far, 81 students at three schools and a madrassa (religious school) have been struck by the ailment," said Khan. "More than half of them fell unconscious and had to be hospitalised. We haveshut down the schools and the madrassa temporarily." He said a team from the country's Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) visited the students and took blood samples. The chief medical officer of central Narsingdi district said his region had also been hit. Birendranath Sinha said 11 girls became ill on Monday after hearing one of their fellow students had died suddenly. "There is no proper explanation for the disease. It's something mass psychogenic," he said, adding that hundreds of students also fell ill in schools in the district last year. Work was also temporarily suspended at a garment factory in the southeastern port city of Chittagong last month after 700 workers complained of similar symptoms. "It started after a worker said she saw a ghost-like object and within minutes the whole factory was in the grip of mass hysteria --workers were falling unconscious, complaining of headaches, muscle twisting and breathlessness," said Mostaq Hossain, an expert who is spearheading IEDCR's research into the phenomenon. The phenomenon is not new -- according to IEDCR statistics, about 2,000 pupils in Bangladesh have been affected by "mass hysteria" since it was first reported here in August 2005. Last year, the government called an urgent summit involving all regional health officials to discuss the condition.Health officials are calling for calm, saying there is no reason to be alarmed. "We have identified it as 'mass sociogenic' disease. It is nothing but mass hysteria," Hossain said. "Mostly teenage girls who are physically and mentally vulnerable are being affected by the disease. We've told health officials across the country not to panic. Schools have been told to improve the conditions for girls." Hossain said the phenomenon was not a recognised psychiatric condition and generally affected groups, triggered by an unusual illness or shocking event experienced by one group member. He also said there had been a snowball effect, with many girls who read about cases "feeling that they could be the victims of the same ailment." He ruled out any poisonous gas theory. "It was also common among English girls during the nineteenth-century Industrial Revolution in Britain," he said. - AFP/vm

  8. Major recall for 2012-14 F30 BMW 3 Series with N20/N26 for dangerous loss of braking Delivery of N20 and N26 powered vehicles stopped as a result of power brake assist problem On September 26th, BMW of North America announced to NHTSA its intention to conduct a voluntary Recall on certain 2012-2014 model year BMW 3 Series, 5 Series, X1, X3 and Z4 models equipped with the N20 or N26 engine, produced from May 2012 to August 2013. Affected vehicles in dealer inventories will not be sold or delivered to customers until the recall repair has been performed. Vehicles at BMW vehicle delivery centers will be corrected before shipment to dealerships. The Problem: The oil supply from the intake camshaft to the brake vacuum pump can become restricted. If this happens the brake vacuum pump could fail due to lack of lubrication, resulting in a loss of power brake assist. The hydraulic brakes will still function to stop the vehicle but without power assist. Without assist the driver will need to apply much greater pedal pressure to stop the vehicle. The distance required to stop the vehicle will increase as most drivers will not be able to apply enough brake pedal pressure. In the event of a loss of brake power assist pull the emergency brake and apply as much brake pedal pressure as possible. If your BMW has an electronic parking brake pull up and hold the switch to engage the brake. Move away from traffic and park in a safe location as soon as possible. Contact BMW Roadside Assistance and have your vehicle taken to the nearest BMW dealer. Link : http://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showthread.php?t=724599

  10. Summary. Due to the revised workweek from 5 days to 6 days scheme. Many bus drivers have less OT opportunity, therefore their potential $2000(with OT) salary, is now reduced to $1400(no opportunity for OT) per month. So they decided today shall be Report Sick day.(Not strike hor) This reminds me of the army days...where many also report sick on the days of Siong exercises or activities. SMRT

  14. http://motoring.asiaone.com/Motoring/News/...103-319685.html Chinese driver leaves behind trail of destruction to escape police When a police officer tried to stop a car with an obscured licence plate, little did he know that it'll leave behind a trail of destruction. Watch the video. -AsiaOne Tue, Jan 03, 2012 AsiaOne A security camera mounted on an overhead bridge recorded in action a motorist who crashed into everything while trying to escape the police. The incident took place in Meizhou, Guangdong, on a busy road during the rush hour, according to a report on shanghaiist, a blog on China. A police officer attempted to stop a car with an obscured licence plate. However the driver refused to stop and drove ahead. According to the video footage, the officer chased after the offending car on foot and caught up with it when other cars ahead blocked its way. The car suddenly reversed when the officer tried to open the driver's door. In the process, the driver hit a motorcyclist and almost rolled over the bike. It then powered ahead, escaping through a gap between traffic before crashing into another bottleneck. The impact caused the car's bonnet to pop. But that was not all. The driver repeatedly crashed into a lorry that was blocking its way, attempting to force its way through. Failing to do so, the driver reversed at high speed, crashing into a small truck. The car then tried to escape into another road, crashing into more vehicles with no regard for other people's property. In the end, the driver was forcibly removed from the car by a crowd of police and passers-bys, the report said. [email protected]

  16. Hi guys, Please vote for your fav. Massmarket car brand in 2010.
  17. NV Residence 2 bedder - approx 800sqft - approx SGD700k - very good take up rate...more than 50% sold after first few days 3 bedder - approx 1000sqft - approx SGD800k - so so take up rate... The Esparina (EC) 2 bedder - approx 800+sqft - approx SGD630k - no one is buying..more than half is still available after the first few days 3 bedder - approx 1000+sqft - approx 750k - almost full sold after first few days... My view : 1) anything above SGD800k for mass market will have rather high resistance...very obvious that unit above SGD800k are not moving fast 2) if you buy something for own stay...800+sqft is something that is barely sufficient...looking at the buying trend for Esparina EC 3) Those who buy a small private mass market still have a kind of speculative essence... Side track : Those mickey mouse unit (less than 600sqft) will only be for rental for sure...no one can live long in a mickey mouse house...so unless rental is good for mickey mouse unit...else their price will crash like mad that we having so much going TOP soon...

  20. Just as US auto industry goes from bad to worst and even biting the dust, their counterparts in China are heading into the future (at Warp-speed!).. Today, history has been made as Chinese car-maker,BYD, begins to sell China's first hybrid car and world's 1st mass-produced PHEV, the F3DM. Note that the F3DM has beaten Toyota and GM in the plug-in area, as the two companies only plan to launch hybrid cars that can be charged from home in 2009 and 2010 respectively. IMHO, what we are seeing now is a rapid titanic shift of automotive industry in terms of innovation, competitveness and capital power. Imagine, US's richest man investing and having a stake in a Chinese auto company that has never sell cars in US itself. That, by itself, speaks volume about China's potent potential in the automotive industry. Dec. 15 (Bloomberg) -- BYD Co., the Chinese automaker backed by Warren Buffett, started selling the world
