  4. http://www.straitstimes.com/Latest%2BNews/...ory_250787.html A jog in the MacRitchie Reservoir turned out to be longer than expected for Dr Brian Takei. He was lost for more than 18 hours and had to spend the night in the forested area, The New Paper reported on Monday. Dr Takei, the Royal Bank of Scotland's Japan representative, had been to the reservoir to jog in April. On Saturday, three days after arriving in Singapore, he decided to go there for a jog taking another route towards the reservoir. That path was isolated and Dr Takei had to make some detours as there were some fallen trees, The New Paper said. Dr Takei tried to turn back but lost his sense of direction after making a wrong detour. In the late afternoon, he then called a colleague in Singapore to get the police's number. He was transferred to the rangers who said they would look for him. However, Dr Takei did not stay put but continued walking through the woods, hoping to return to his point of origin. 'I thought it would be easier for them to find me if I got out of the forested area. I ventured further into the forest and I kept calling the police on my handphone. 'The police told me to try to get near the reservoir as they were ferrying the rangers around by boat,' Dr Takei told The New Paper. By sunset, his handphone battery had gone flat and he suffered cuts and scratches on his arms and legs after walking through thorny vegetation. For safety reasons, he stopped walking when darkness fell. Dr Takei said he was afraid of snakes as he could hear animals moving about. He said he had only an hour of sleep around 6am before it began raining at about 7am. He began walking around when the rain stopped and finally came near the reservoir at 9.30am. He saw the rangers getting off the boat and shouted to them. He was taken to Tan Tock Send Hospital for outpatient treatment. Dr Takei then called his wife who berated him for being too adventurous. 'She said I'm no longer a teenager and I should have been more cautious. She said I was lucky my curiosity didn't kill me.' The experience will not stop Dr Takei, who will return to Japan on Friday, from visiting MacRitchie Reservoir again. He said: 'I think it's a very good nature reserve but I'll not take that same route again.'

  6. As reported in Today New Paper, a 40 yrs old man dies at MacRitchie Reservoir whilst jogging with a group of friends on Saturday morning. He collapsed and lost consciousness. Two joggers stopped and performed cardio-pulmonary resuscitation. He was send to hospital but died one hours later. He is the sixth person to have died suddenly while exercising this year. Just two weeks ago, an army Captian age 25, died after completing 21km marathon. I remember those days when I was young, never think of health but enjoying ourself by swimming in the flood water, sucking "Ice Ball" with our bare hands after a game of "Hum Tam Bolah" or football at Farrer Park (never even wash our hands), running bare footed, catches salt water shrimps from fish pond & eat raw, ....etc. We don't suffer cardiac failure. Best still, eating half raw "Hum" or oyster by katties Never heard of Vitamin C, B+, D,.....etc during our times and the only things we know is eating all kinds of wild fruits pluck direct from trees or shrubs. Sometimes I wonder, are these helping us or causing us to be much weaker. Like my 2 chindren, the change of wheather pattern could easily get them to catch flu, cough or even fever. Had spend a lot on all kinds of vitamin pills and they are eating them since young. The question is : Are we becoming weaker after more health concious nowadays or simply are we over stress with our work and our children education?
  7. The news on Ch 8 just reported that MacRitchie Reservoir Car Park A will be closed for renovation to build a 2-storey MSCP that can house 300 cars. Upon completion, Car Park B and C will be converted for other usage. Good news or Bad news? IMO, why only 2-storey? I doubt 300 car park lots are enough during weekends.
