  3. The Le Mans 24 hours endurance race will be short of one of its regulars this year and maybe the year after that. Peugeot has announced that it will be pulling out of endurance racing due to lackluster sales in 2011. It has also stated that it will pour its resources on marketing the new Peugeot 208 supermini(above) and its 2012 hybrid models instead. Quite obvious actually. With the pullout, this would mean that Audi will have no actual rival in the LMP1 category as Peugeot was its only actual rival. Peugeot won the 2009 Le Mans and the first Intercontinental Le Mans cup title in 2011 with its diesel powered Peugeot 908HDi FAP. A monopoly at this year's Le Mans? Aside from Audi gaining from Peugeot's absence, they will also gain from Toyota's decision to only participate in a few of this year's LMP1 races and the fact that old timers Porsche will only be re-entering the fray in 2014. So expect a very lopsided Le Mans LMP1 category for the next few years people. And furthermore, Le Mans without a proper French manufacturer/team is somehow a sad thing too. It is actually quite sad to see Peugeot pull out of Le Mans are they have been doing quite well and was the second manufacturer to compete in the Le Mans with a diesel powered car
  4. Hi all, Anyone had tried LM703? I happened to hear from an acquaintance that its a quiet tyre with good grip. I did a goggle but most information in Japanese... http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_hb64...12/ai_n25767344 "Akron, Ohio -- Sumitomo Rubber Industries Ltd has developed technology to suppress tyre cavity noise--a growing problem in certain original equipment fitments--using polyurethane foam mounted to the tyre's inner liner. Sumitomo is marketing a line of quiet tires--the Dunlop LeMans LM703-in Japan using the technology along with a noise-optimised tread pattern and a belt overlay of polyethylene naphthanate, or PEN, yarn, which the company claims works better than nylon to suppress noise." Is this a new technology in reducing tyre noise? By placing a polyurethane foam inside the tyre? Anyone had tried this tyre, appreciate your comment. Thank you. 5. BMW will be competing in the GT2 category at this years Le Mans this 12-13th June, 2010. The chosen car is the M3 GT2, which if you remembered a version of it had a glorious outing at the recent 24hrs Nurburgring Endurance Race by winning it. The unique this about this race car is that it is the 17th BMW art car of which famous contemporary artists like the late Andy Warhol and the late Roy Lichtenstein have put their touches on previous art cars. These previous art cars are famous and have traveled the world, going from art display to art display. I was fortunate to see a few when some of these cars were displayed at the PETRONAS art gallery in Suria KLCC in Kuala Lumpur sometime ago. But I like this particular model as it really looks fast while standing still. This latest BMW art car has been worked on by Jeff Koons. While he has previously collaborated with BMW on an art car in 2003, this latest one took him months as he started working on it in February of this year. 'These race cars are like life, they are powerful and there is a lot of energy,' said Mr Koons. 'You can participate with it, add to it and let yourself transcend with its energy. There is a lot of power under that hood and I want to let my ideas transcend with the car .......it's really to connect with that power.' I think he succeeded doing so pretty well. It looks like the colours came from the Speed Racer movie. The speed emulating design was first created on a computer and then into a digital print on car wrapping vinyl for a painstaking application to the M3 GT2. The process of using vinyl stickers is exactly the same all the cars the matte black or matte grey cars that is popular in the market today. Those days everything was actually painted, painstakingly by the artists and their assistants. Look at how technology has made things much easier, even art. This 500bhp M3 GT2 is presumed to be prepared only for the upcoming Le Mans as by September, this car will be displayed at the BMW museum in Munich.
