On Thursday (June 20), Ding Zhipeng, a Chinese national, was sentenced to nine months and six weeks’ jail and fined S$12,000. The 28-year-old pleaded guilty in the State Courts to one charge of criminal breach of trust, one charge under the Casino Control Act and one charge under the Corruption, Drug Trafficking and Other Serious Crimes (Confiscation of Benefits) Act. Thirteen similar charges were taken into consideration for sentencing. The court heard that Ding had been employed at RWS since July 2017, and looked after casino cash chips kept in the float — that is, trays where the chips were kept — of his assigned gaming tables. He began stealing casino cash chips from the float sometime in May or June 2018, when there were no patrons at his gaming table. His offences were finally discovered on Nov 12, 2018, when a surveillance operator spotted Ding taking S$1,000 cash chips from the float. The operator then called the police. Officers seized 72 chips and S$3,000 in cash from Ding’s rental room when they searched it later that evening. He surrendered another two chips that he had kept inside his pants when he was arrested. Deputy Public Prosecutor Tay Jia En noted that Ding had misappropriated a large amount over an extended period of time. He showed premeditation by stealing the chips when his supervisor was not looking, the prosecutor added, and he used a friend to cash out the chips as he would attract suspicion by doing it himself. In mitigation, Ding’s lawyer John Koh told the court that his client was stressed and “resorted to improper channels to make extra money”, while working long hours to make money for his family back in China. Most of the money was eventually recovered as well, Mr Koh added.

Explosions have hit three churches and three hotels in and around the Sri Lankan capital of Colombo, police said Sunday. The blasts hit several high-end hotels and one church in the capital, while two additional churches were targeted outside Colombo, police said. There were initial reports of at least 80 people injured in the capital. "Eighty people have already been admitted, and more are still coming in," an official at the Colombo National Hospital told AFP on condition of anonymity. The nature of the explosions was not immediately clear. TAIPEI: At least 17 people were dead and 126 others injured after a train derailed on Taiwan's east coast on Sunday afternoon (Oct 21), authorities said. The train, Puyuma Express 6432, was travelling from Taitung and derailed near Yilan county near the coast, on a railway popular among tourists. "As of 6.30pm there are 17 dead on site and 126 people injured," the Taiwan Railways Administration said in a statement, adding that the train had been moving between two stations in Yilan County before the derailment occurred. Taiwan's central government said that rescue services were at the scene and that the premier had been notified and was highly concerned over the safety of the travelers. At least six compartments of the train overturned, said Taiwan Railways Administration, according to Apple Daily. Taiwan's Central News Agency reported that more than 30 people were still trapped in the train early on Sunday evening. Every time I see people driving nice cars, I wonder how much they earn to afford such nice machines? Let's say Mr Driver drives a $400k car, most likely he has more than one car, his other car may worth say another $180k. At the same time, being able to afford the cars, he is unlikely to live in a 2-room HDB flat, more likely at least a place worth say $1m to be very very conservative. Let's say he has only one property, though unlikely. For the purpose of simplifying the calculation, let's say he manages to arrange full loans for his cars and property, and stretches his loans to max repayment periods, he's likely to be paying about $13k monthly combined installment. (maybe some bros can check / correct this figure to make it as realistic as possible?) ..... Assuming car loans:- 6-yr, housing loan:- 20-yr Let's say he spend about $1k on rdtx, petrol, insur etc per month, another say $3k on daily expenses eg food, cloths, etc etc.... This is quite a tight budget for some singles. Total:- 13 + 1 + 3 = 17 k Assuming he saves 5% of his earning, he will needs to earn $17k x 1.05 = approx $18k per month Is this figure close to what some mcf bros are earning when they are/were single and owning cars + property as Mr Driver?

Have to find a way to measure happiness.... Once that's settled, can we look back and say which things we spent money on are giving us the max HAPPINESS per $ spent? A good dinner of $200 per head made you happy for 1 hour of 8/10 of happiness? (10/10 means total happiness): this gives $200 divide by 8 = 25points.... A good tie for $100 but you wear it only say for 3 ocassions of 2 hours each and it gave you 8/10 happiness (total happiness = $100 divide by (2hrs x 3times x 8) = 100 divide by 48 = 2.08points... 2.08points means less dollars per happiness point compared with the $200 dinner........... win liao A flashy car costing $20k per year depreciation, add rdtx, insur, petrol etc, say $15k pa, giving us total cost 20 + 15 = $35k pa this is approx $3k per mth, $100 per day. Lets say we use the car 4hr a day, this gives us $25 per hr of use. If we derive 8/10 happiness from using the car, 25 divide by 8 = 3.13points.... cant beat good tie!! moral of the story: a good tie you like gives you max value for money in terms of HAPPINESS... (even if you only use it trice...)

One such 'irritating' thing:- Feel high tide, rush to toilet, unzip in front of urinal..... water fall starts, before halfway mark ...... ring, ring, ring, and hp in pocket vibrates.... look at the display:- OMG, boss calls from overseas..... but while holding hp to read the caller ID, di di swings to side and water fall goes the wrong way.... to answer the call, or let it ring but use the hand to 'steady' the di di?? so many times, when doing the water fall thingy, hp sure rings OR going from home to car outside, both hands carry bags, newspaper, water bottle, running shoes.... ie both hands are full.... then the hp starts to ring and i am not wearing the bluetooth ear piece.... you guys ever encountered before anything worse than the above???

Land Transport Authority (LTA) figures show 6.8 per cent of car owners here have two or more cars, up from 5.5 per cent just four years ago. This translates into 34,226 people with more than one car to their names as of June. This has caused a crunch on the number of parking spaces available. It is not just the well-off who own more than one car. Parking spaces in the carparks in Housing Board estates are also getting hard to come by. Increasingly, residents have to park farther away from their flats or park illegally. When the HDB looked into complaints over this, it found 36,370 households owning more than one car - 60 per cent more than in 2006, when 22,700 did. Transport researcher Lee Der Horng of the National University of Singapore said the trend is a sign that people have come to see a car as a necessity, not a luxury. He said he had expected the demand for cars to fall, given the Government's drive to promote public transport and the expected hike in certificate of entitlement (COE) prices because of the limited supply of COEs available now. He said: 'If people believe in this lifestyle of having more cars, to satisfy that, they'll convince themselves that the price of a COE is an acceptable percentage of their disposable income.' He added that this suggested the Government's message to people to use public transport may not be getting through. COE premiums now stand at $30,000 to $40,000, higher than in recent years, when they dipped below $20,000; but they are still cheaper now than when they hit $100,000 back in the 1990s.
