It finally hit me that JB has finally reached "mall saturation point". The theme park is desserted!!! Crowd was very thin. Many shop units weren't even taken up!!! They said it's not fully open yet, my guess is the mall is just too big to be filled up. There were 2 floors entirely empty. Not to say the ground or 2nd floor are entirely taken. So some may think it's still work in progress, I went on a weekday but hardly see any contractors working to complete any unfinished/vacant units. So I deduce it's gonna remain like this or worst - current tenants calling it quit. Even Paradigm Mall is quite empty, but at least it look decent. Well, I wonder how these malls gonna survive in 6months or 1 year. Will see.

Burmese python swallows largest meal on record: A young deer heavier than itself. Experts at the Conservancy of Southwest Florida will soon be publishing an interesting study - one which includes its documentation of a 14.29-kilogram Burmese python swallowing a heavier 15.88-kilogram young white-tailed deer. According to a statement issued by the organisation, the discovery of the python was made in April 7, 2015 at the Collier-Seminole State Park. The python appeared "distended by a large food bulge." Wildlife biologists captured the animal for study. Later in captivity, the 11-foot female python became stressed and regurgitated its large meal. Experts believed the incident to be the largest predator-to-prey ratio ever documented for Burmese pythons, and possibly pythons in general. Additional observations and findings regarding the case will be published in the March 2018 issue of the journal Herpetological Review. Burmese pythons are snakes native to tropical South and Southeast Asia. They may have entered the United States through the pet trade and were either set loose or escaped from their owners. The pythons are considered an invasive species in southwest Florida where these snakes have negatively affected the area's native wildlife. Some studies suggest the pythons were 90 per cent responsible for the decline of small animals in the eastern Everglades. Discovering the deer in the python's stomach raised concerns that the snakes could even affect deer population by praying on the young. On August 30 2016, members of the Aviation Industry Corporation of China (AICC) and the Antonov Corporation, the leading Ukrainian aviation company, signed an agreement to restart production of the AN-225, the world's largest cargo aircraft which first flown during the final days of the Soviet era in 1988. The contract includes the establishment of two large production facilities for the new AN-225, located in Central and Southern China. Antonov will deliver the necessary technological and purchase production equipment for the Chinese. The first completely redesigned AN-225 is expected to start flying in 2019. An-225 weights 640 ton, powered by six engines is 84 meters in length and a wingspan of over 88 meters. Think the tallest architectures, fastest machines, etc. Here we have one of the biggest machinery that rolls on Earth - Dump trucks. And it just got bigger. Capable of carrying and tugging around 496 tonnes of earth on its back, the Belaz 75710 claims to be the World's biggest in its field. To help it perform its tasks, it has not one, but two 16-cylinder turbocharged diesel engines underneath its hood (if you still consider the Belaz has one in the first place). (Reuters) - Bank of America Corp reported a record quarterly loss of $8.8 billion as persistent mortgage problems and low interest rates squeezed revenue at the largest U.S. bank. The loss was expected after the bank said in June it would pay $8.5 billion to settle lawsuits from mortgage bond investors and take more than $14 billion of other home loan-related charges. But investors were troubled by indications that a tepid economy is retarding recovery outside of mortgages. Interest income fell during the quarter, and Chief Executive Brian Moynihan said in a conference call that demand for loans is sluggish and the economy is not improving quickly. Shares of the bank closed down 1.54 percent at $9.57 on the New York Stock Exchange. Some of Bank of America's businesses, like credit cards, experienced rising profits and loan growth during the quarter. "It's a tale of two cities," said Jason Ware, equity analyst at Albion Financial Group. "You have one that looks like it's starting to make money, and then you have this mortgage business that is still throwing off pretty large losses." He and other analysts also said Bank of America is not likely to raise its skinny penny-a-share dividend until at least 2012. One negative sign for the bank is that its loan book shrank, even as many rivals experienced loan growth. Also pressing profits is lending margins, which are shrinking as the longer-term rates at which banks can lend are falling relative to the short-term rates at which banks borrow. At Bank of America, these factors translated to a 13 percent decline in interest income and a sizable 0.17 percentage point decline in lending margins from the first quarter. On a conference call, Chief Financial Officer Bruce Thompson said the bank was "pretty close" to the trough for net interest income, if it was not there already. JPMorgan Chase & Co reported a similar shrinking in its lending margins last week, which pressured the shares of many regional lenders. Wells Fargo & Co said on Tuesday that its margins shrank less. Analysts had expected rising interest rate margins to fuel higher bank earnings next year. For the second quarter, Bank of America reported a net loss of $8.8 billion, or 90 cents per share, compared with net income of $3.1 billion, or 27 cents per share, a year earlier. Analysts on average expected a loss of 90 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S. On June 29, the bank said it would take big one-time charges in the quarter related to a settlement with private investors who demanded the bank repurchase toxic home loans held in mortgage-backed securities. The settlement underscores the pain caused by the purchase of Countrywide Financial Corp in July 2008 by former CEO Kenneth Lewis, as the financial crisis was intensifying. The $4 billion deal saddled the bank with billions in toxic mortgages. Most of the loans related to the $8.5 billion settlement were from Countrywide. Bank of America received $45 billion in aid through two U.S. government bailouts during the financial crisis, which it subsequently repaid. Excluding the charges, the bank earned $3.7 billion, or 33 cents per share, in the second quarter. "It's a slow grind for them," said David Hendler, senior analyst at CreditSights in New York. CARDS, INVESTMENT BANKING IMPROVE The results highlight that many of the bank's business units, most notably its credit card and investment banking units, are becoming more profitable. Global card services reported income of $2 billion, up from $826 million a year ago. Global banking and markets income rose to $1.6 billion from $1 billion. BofA's investment bank reported fixed income results increased to $2.6 billion in the quarter, up from $2.2 billion a year prior, but down from $3.6 billion in first quarter 2011. BofA's year-over-year increase in bond trading stood in contrast to Goldman Sachs Group Inc's 53 percent decline in bond trading revenues, a surprise for what was once the largest Wall Street bond trading house. Bank of America's consumer real estate services unit lost $14.2 billion in the quarter, continuing a series of losses for the business dating back to the 2008 financial crisis. Overall, revenue tumbled 54 percent to $13.5 billion because of a provision taken as part of the mortgage settlement. Excluding that, revenue was $26.5 billion. Like its peers, including JPMorgan and Citigroup Inc, Bank of America reported improving credit quality as loan losses declined. At Bank of America, net charge-offs -- loans the bank is writing off -- declined for the fifth straight quarter and the bank lowered its loan loss provision. Earlier this year, the Federal Reserve denied permission for Bank of America to raise its dividend later this year. The Fed's denial, paired with mortgage woes and a weaker U.S. economy, have pushed shares down 27 percent this year. Albion's Ware said BofA's shares -- now trading at roughly half their book value -- are not attractive to many investors because of the uncertainties surrounding the bank's mortgage woes. Just because major portions of the German Autobahn have no speed limit doesn't mean you can drive as fast as you want anywhere in Europe. Where there are posted restrictions, most European countries take speeding very seriously and levy hefty fines. The latest case in point is a 37-year-old Swedish man who was clocked at 180 miles per hour on a motorway between Bern and Lausanne in Switzerland. Unfortunately for this driver of a new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Switzerland doesn't have fixed fines for speeding. Instead they use a formula similar to that in Finland where the fine is calculated based on the vehicle's speed and the driver's income. Back in 2002, Nokia executive Anssi Vanjoki had to pay a fine of $103,600 for going 47 mph in a 31 mph zone. In this latest incident, the driver faces a penalty of just over $1 million for traveling at the highest speed ever recorded on a public road in Switzerland. Apparently the SLS escaped being clocked by several older cameras that are limited to 125 mph before finally being recorded by a new camera with a higher radar speed range. His excuse: The speedometer was faulty. As far as we know, this is the most expensive speeding ticket ever issued, though there are reports of a kid who last April was caught speeding in his dad's Bugatti Veyron, the punishment for which was permanent seizure of the vehicle. Titanoboa was 13m (42ft) long - about the length of a bus - and lived in the rainforest of north-east Colombia 58-60 million years ago. The snake was so wide it would have reached up to a person's hips, say researchers, who have estimated that it weighed more than a tonne. Green anacondas - the world's heaviest snakes - reach a mere 250kg (550lbs). Snakes had the opportunity to evolve and grow as big as this one did in a way that they probably wouldn't today P David Polly, Indiana University Reticulated pythons - the world's longest snakes - can reach up to 10m (32ft). The team of researchers led by Jason Head, from the University of Toronto at Mississauga, Canada, used a known mathematical relationship between the size of vertebrae and the length of the body in living snakes to estimate the size of the ancient animal. Named Titanoboa cerrejonensis by its discoverers, the beast's 13m-long body and 1,140kg (2,500lb) weight make it the largest snake on record. "At its greatest width, the snake would have come up to about your hips. The size is pretty amazing," said co-author P David Polly, from Indiana University in Bloomington, US. Researchers discovered fossilised bones belonging to the super-sized slitherers and their possible prey at Cerrejon, one of the world's largest open-pit coal mines. The animal is a relative of modern boa constrictors. Warming world "Probably like an anaconda, it spent a lot of time in the water," said Professor Polly. "It would have needed to eat a lot. What its prey was exactly, we don't know. But it probably included alligators, big fish or crocodiles." The researchers also used the reptile's size to make an estimate of Earth's temperature 58 to 60 million years ago in tropical South America. A vertebra from an anaconda (l) is dwarfed by one from Titanoboa ® Palaeontologists have long known that as temperatures go up and down over geological time, generally speaking, so does the upper size limit of cold-blooded creatures - or poikilotherms. This is because the metabolism of a poikilotherm is more or less controlled by the average temperature of its environment. Assuming the Earth today was not particularly unusual, the researchers calculated that a snake of Titanoboa's size would have required an average annual temperature of 30C to 34C (86F to 93F) to survive. By comparison, the average yearly temperature of today's Cartagena, a Colombian coastal city, is about 28C. Opportunity knocks "A snake living in the tropics would have been operating at a much higher metabolic rate," said Professor Polly. "So snakes had the opportunity to evolve and grow as big as this one did in a way that they probably wouldn't today." He added that as the Earth warmed up in future, cold-blooded animals could be expected to evolve larger bodies. Dr Head adds that the find "challenges our understanding of past climates and environments, as well as the biological limitations on the evolution of giant snakes." However, Dr Matthew Huber, a climatologist from Purdue University in Indiana, who was not connected with the study, questioned whether the link between size and temperature was "generalisable and accurate". The world's second-largest cruise operator, Royal Caribbean International (RCI), has announced a year-round deployment of its "Legends of the Seas" in Asia-Pacific, beginning November 2009. The 1,800-capacity cruiseship will dock in cities like Singapore, Shanghai, Hong Kong as well as the new destinations of Yokohama in Japan and Busan in South Korea. Aptly timed, this calculated leap of faith in Asia's cruising potential was launched at an event to mark the first anniversary of the company's Asia office. According to president and CEO of Royal Caribbean International, Adam Goldstein, "The Asia Pacific region is a very important part of Royal Carribean's international growth strategy. We don't just want to participate in its growth, we want to lead it. That's why we are stepping up our level of involvement." The company was also encouraged by the success of it's first cruise season here with "Rhapsody of the Seas". RCI Asia-Pacific's managing director Rama Rebbapragada reported that 2007's Asian cruise programme had been fully booked, with more than 30,000 passengers. He also explained that RCI will begin short cruises around the region from December 2008 all through the Chinese New Year period to Malaysia and Thailand. These cruises will last three to four nights. Shortly after, Legends will sail on longer trips to China, Korea and Japan, on cruise journeys ranging from five to 14 nights. Legends has definitely amped up the cruising game with the many different - and some very unique - amenities onboard. Neste Oil, a refiner from Finland, said it has decided to invest nearly S$1.2 billion to build the world's largest biodiesel plant in Singapore. In a statement, Neste said the plant will have a design capacity of 800,000 tonnes each year. This will make it the largest facility producing diesel fuel from renewable feedstock anywhere. The plant will use mostly palm oil for raw material. The company said it chose Singapore because it is the world's third-largest centre for oil refining. Singapore is also a central location in terms of product and feedstock flows and logistics. Neste believes this will give Singapore excellent potential to develop into a centre for Asian biofuel production. The Economic Development Board will also support the investment by helping with research and development, as well as assisting with recruiting and training personnel. Construction of the plant at Tuas will start in the first half of next year and it is due to be completed by the end of 2010. The plant will be integrated into the area's existing industrial infrastructure, and will make use of local site utilities and port and storage services. When operational, the plant will employ around 100 people. Analysts say the move is positive for Singapore. ABN AMRO Asia Securities' investment analyst Nirgunan Tiruchelvam said: "..... it places Singapore as a hub in the biodiesel industry. There has been a few other developments earlier this year and last year where other companies have set up biodiesel facilities in Singapore because of its superior logistics." According to Neste, the use of biofuels is predicted to increase rapidly in developed economies over the next few years. For now, though, analysts believe the plant's impact on Singapore's economy will be minimal. ABN AMRO Asia Securities' Nirgunan Tiruchelvam said: "The production being anticipated in this biodiesel facility is a small percentage of the petroleum requirements of this country.
