Chen Neng Chuan, known by his online name Goodnight Chicken, did a broadcast on February 12 where he explored a hostel that allegedly housed job scam victims. During the stream, he entered the building but was “caught” by guards patrolling the grounds, and the stream was then cut off. After this, his wife and friends did a stream on his account expressing concern over his disappearance, saying they had no updates from local police. On the 13th, he did another stream showing himself disheveled with torn clothes, claiming to have escaped after being beaten by his captors. However, the supposedly happy ending raised many eyebrows, leading to an investigation. It was reported by the Criminal Bureau and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that Chen’s family made no inquiries into his supposed disappearance. Chen was ultimately detained by Cambodian police on suspicion of inciting discrimination, making false statements, and wasting public resources. Following his arrest, Chen’s Facebook page went inactive, as authorities asked the public to come forward with any more information they may have. This is not the first time Chen has allegedly faced legal issues — he previously had lawsuits filed after breaking into buildings and claiming they were the sites of murders and hauntings.

Read in today ST that another cases of kidnap scam where the old couple lost more than $50,000 to the con man by claiming that they are holding their son in custody. Police had adviced members of public since 25/08/07 and another 5 scarm were reported on 28/08/07 and bringing a total to 10 cases. It should be easy to trace the con man as the account number was given for the bank transfer. (another catch me if you can) As a son/daughter it is our duty to inform our parent to be alert and not to listen to any phone calls claiming that we had been kidnap. Those responsible should be not be spared of jail term up to 3 years. The old couple hard earn money just gone like that.

I am not sure how much CNA and local MSM are following up on this kidnap of 270 innocent school girls in Africa by a terrorist group. I keep seeing video of the terrorists' leader defying international appeals to release these girls and threatening harms to the girls if their demands are not met. The govt of that country is hopelessly corrupted and useless, allowing this to happen.

The kidnapping late Wednesday underscores the persistent security threats in Sabah state, a popular tourist destination and dive spot that is a short boat ride from the southern Philippines, which has long been home to a dangerous mix of Muslim militants and kidnap gangs. It could also complicate already strained relations between China and Malaysia over Kuala Lumpur's hunt for a jetliner that disappeared March 8 with 153 Chinese citizens on board. Six men armed with pistols raided the Singamata Reef Resort, according to a police report forwarded to The Associated Press by a security official. It said the Chinese victim was a 28-year-old woman from Shanghai, while the receptionist was a 40-year-old Philippine national. The Singamata is a midrange resort popular with Chinese tourists in the Semporna district of the state. It has cottages on stilts over the water. A receptionist at the hotel declined to comment, as did police in the district. The attackers were believed to be from the Abu Sayyaf, a Filipino militant Muslim group that has been implicated in seaborne kidnappings for ransom in the region before, said a Philippine intelligence official who didn't give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Last November, suspected Abu Sayyaf militants shot and killed a Taiwanese tourist and kidnapped his wife from a resort in the Semporna area.
