Situated right in the HDB estate, a local artist has transform a plain looking and boring void deck into an interesting art museum, bringing residents and visitors back to the future. Kudos to Mr. Yip! 👍 This HDB Void Deck In Woodlands Drive 62 Has Kampong & Gardens By The Bay-Inspired 3D Art Source: https://thesmartlocal.com/read/photogenic-void-deck-woodlands/ For those seeking IG-worthy backgrounds, you’ll want to pay Woodlands Drive 62 a visit. Nestled in Woodlands are the murals painted by local artist Yip Yew Chong, and these have been split into 3 themes. Start your visit with a game of snakes and ladders – but this time, you’re the game piece. At the Modern & Futuristic City zone, you’ll see 2 eye-catching pillars that resemble the iconic Gardens by the Bay Supertree Grove. Tying in the sci-fi vibes are the orb-like baubles floating around a metropolis – think Wakanda IRL. Adding some greenery to the space is the paddy field illustration, where you can see rows of vegetables being grown in the soil. We may not know what kind of veggies that is, but they sure look fresh. Then, mosey on over to the Nature zone where you’ll spot portraits of common animals in Singapore. We’re talking about the long-tailed macaques, great egrets, and small-clawed otters. No need to keep your distance with these wildlife as they won’t jump on you. There are also giant jackfruit trees that adorn the pillars. You can pose next to the ginormous fruits and snap a tonne of pics, since it’s unlikely that most of us can grow such luscious loot in our backyards. Check out the mock living room that sports a retro television, old-school wooden chair, and the sarong cradle that most millennials have slept in. We can’t forget the chou chou – AKA comfort pillow – found on the floor, and a peaceful sleeping kitty which kinda looks like TSL’s office cat Pika. There’s also a living room area complete with a tingkat and traditional food, placed atop the classic green-marbled table and chair. With the illustrations looking realistic, you can almost imagine what it was like having dinner at one of these kampong houses. Not many of us were around during the peak kampong days, using charcoal to cook in the kitchen and having simple home decorations. Set in contrast to the futuristic section is the Farmland & Kampong zone, where young’uns can get a glimpse of the chill kampong life. Impressed by the art works? The exact location of this "museum" is at 683C Woodlands Drive 62, Singapore 733683. Remember to share your photos after the trip.

hi, all much has talked about our livelihood in this country - past, present & future . . . so many have had happened, especially from maturity of internet into 'screen faced ppl' everywhere (face glued to smartphones, tablets etc.) - only these faces available . . . http://kindness.sg/the-kampong-spirit/ most of all, the way our governments and public services (town council, police, lta, nea, hdb & son on) have become these days where its really nothing more but Pay And Pay! with such pace established today . . . is it possible to rekindled those kampong spirits from the 70s & 80s to this new 2010s & 2020s? , or ???

This is not another FT bashing tread but let's look at the reality. I believe many FTs are like that, read and you'll know... Hi, I am 50 this year and am a naturalized singapore citizen who came to singapore in 1992 with my wife from Bombay for work. We have 2 children, both in poly now, one 18, the other 17, but are now in the US. And we have been living here happily for over 18+ years now. Although we got our citizenship many years back, we somehow managed to keep our citizenships and our kids also hold dual passports. We intend to renounce our singapore citizenships. In preparation for this, we have sold both our HDB flat and terrece house Nov last year and are now living in a rented 3 room flat. Recently, after lengthy discussions with my wife, we have decided to retire and go back to India this April and in the mean time, my 2 kids can continue to study in the Universities they have been accept to in the US and are there studying now. However, the older one of them received this NS enlistment letter recently. 1) Is there anyway for our 2 boys to avoid serving in NS? They tried to renounce their Singapore citizenship in December last year, but was not allowed to 2) If they simply do not serve NS, and just continue their studies overseas what are the consequences, is it a matter of just not being able to come in singapore in the future. 3) On renouncing citizenship, how long will CPF take to refund the monies held in our account. 4) Will we get back all the monies held there, ie, medisave, special and ordinary If anyone know of any short cut or workaround, please let me know. Thanks for your help. SOURCE: Singapore Expat

Can old timers tell me how was it to live in a kampong? Is it true that kampong life is more relaxed and people were more gracious towards each other? How come kampong people can have 6 kids with no problems but now even 1 kid is so troublesome?
