Is there really a need to build a new indoor stadium with similar sitting capacity, just to be ahead of the game (and to bring in more tourist $$$)? I think swiftie's effect have gone wrong somehow. Is that why our GST need to increase years after years??? In Chinese, we say 被钱冲昏了头脑。。。And this ET is like a 败家子 imo. FYI, I spoke to friends in construction industries, yes, it will cost millions of $$$ to improve on power supply capacity, but definitely will be much much lesser than demolishing and building a new indoor stadium. Isn't tearing down good building for a new one against our pledge of going green?! Source: https://www.channelnewsasia.com/singapore/indoor-stadium-new-arena-kallang-mccy-4176951 SINGAPORE: Singapore is planning to build a new arena to replace the Singapore Indoor Stadium, which opened its doors nearly 35 years ago. To be located adjacent to the Indoor Stadium, the yet unnamed venue will be "among the best-in-class globally", Minister for Culture, Community and Youth Edwin Tong said on Thursday (Mar 7), as he outlined his ministry's spending plans for the year. Concerts and sporting events often require more power than the Indoor Stadium’s infrastructure can handle, the Ministry of Culture, Community and Youth (MCCY) said during a media briefing last week. Money, time and resources need to be spent to add extra power or electrical support. Meanwhile, countries in the region have built or are building indoor arenas that can host more sophisticated events or have faster turnaround times. They also offer greater value propositions to spectators, such as more varied hospitality suites. "Our competitors are not standing still, and we, likewise, must continually innovate and evolve if we want to continue to attract top-tier events," said Mr Tong in parliament, noting that high-quality international events are valuable and highly sought after. Singapore has "gone around to study some of the best arenas in the world, to learn from them", he said. The new indoor arena will support Singapore's vision for the surrounding Kallang Alive precinct to host world-class events and serve as a homeground for national athletes among other purposes. Plans are in their early stages and the Singapore Indoor Stadium will continue to operate for now. "This minimises disruption to the pipeline of events and programming, which can continue throughout the construction period for the new arena," said Mr Tong. MCCY is considering future uses for the Indoor Stadium, which was officially opened on the last day of 1989. The Indoor Stadium and its supporting infrastructure cost S$90 million (US$67.1 million) to build. It can seat up to 12,000 and the new arena should "at least have the same capacity", said Mr Tong on Thursday. Several major sports and entertainment events have been held at the Indoor Stadium over the years, from Kanye West and Tina Turner to the World Wrestling Entertainment and Women's Tennis Association Finals. In the past year, it has hosted performances by Cantopop star Jacky Cheung and veteran K-pop group Shinee.

Mention "BMW sports car", and the first car that comes to your mind would be the reputable M series cars, such as the M3 and M4 or even cars like the 335i or 535i. Never will people think about BMW's under-appreciated sports car, the BMW Z4 - which many have cast their doubts about it being an actual sports car. Despite the stigma that surrounds the BMW Z4, the German roadster remains too much for this female driver to handle: What Happened? A pair of sisters took their BMW Z4 out for some errands, lost control and mounted the kerb at the open-air carpark of Kallang Leisure Park. As a result, the Z4 ended up perched on the kerb, lying on its undercarriage. #GoodbyeUndercarriage Truth be told, they were lucky to walk away with no injuries and minimal damages to the roadster. Lost For Words You may be wondering why I said they were lucky despite the BMW Z4 ending up perched on a kerb pathetically? Here's why: Apparently, the driver of the BMW Z4 was driving with the side mirror folded up the entire time she was driving. It was a matter of time before she got into an accident, endangering herself, her passengers and the lives of other motorists. To be involved in such a minor "accident" is a mere slap on the wrist for her and serves as a lesson to be a better driver. Netizens' Comments Plot twist: They are blood-related (possibly sisters), not friends. And I thought I was seeing things, until I saw netizens pointing out that her mirrors were folded up while she was driving. Come June, however, one of its outlets will be shutting for good. Famous for its bright red signboard and spacious carpark, Long Beach King – located near the Singapore Sports Hub – will close in about 3 months’ time when its lease expires. Long Beach Kallang outlet will close in Jun 2021 According to Lianhe Zaobao, Long Beach first moved to the location in Kallang in 1985, some 36 years ago. Some time after, the outlet moved to East Coast after its lease expired. In 2008, Long Beach King moved back to Kallang, and has been operating there ever since. However, operations will cease come June when the restaurant shuts for good. Besides the delicious seafood dishes, long-time customers of the restaurant will certainly miss the huge crimson logo and the spacious carpark outside. The place was reportedly a popular spot for family gatherings in the 80s and 90s. 4 other outlets remain after closure If you plan on visiting Long Beach King before its closure, here are the deets you’ll need: Long Beach King Address: 220 Stadium Blvd, Singapore 397803 Opening hours: 11am–2.30pm, 5pm–11.15pm daily Nearest MRT: Mountbatten Station After the closure in June, Long Beach will still have 4 other outlets islandwide. Upon closing, all employees currently working at Long Beach King will be transferred to their latest outlet at Robertson Quay, reports Lianhe Zaobao. You can check out the rest of Long Beach’s outlets here. Have their signature crab dishes at other outlets The closure of Long Beach King certainly comes as sad news for customers who have patronised the outlet for decades. Though the red signboard will be a thing of the past, fans can find comfort in the fact that its signature dishes like chilli and black pepper crab are still available at the remaining outlets. Know someone who frequently visits Long Beach King? Tag them in the comments so they’ll know about the closure.

Cyclist tries to chase taxi but fails and makes himself look silly
chitchatboy posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
Hi guys, we have more trouble-making cyclists to report. Uploaded on SG Road Vigilante's page is an incident between a cyclist and a SMRT taxi on 7th of Feb 2021 at around 2pm along Kallang road. All was well until the taxi driver wanted to turn into Crawford Street but realised that two cyclists was in his way. Realising that the cyclists wasn't going to give way, the taxi slowed down and slotted himself behind the cyclists before turning left. However, it seemed that one of the cyclist felt that the taxi driver had endangered his life when the taxi made his first move to filter left and proceeded to chase the taxi. We have no idea why he would do that. Did he think that he could chase the taxi and stop him with his bicycle? That is putting aside the fact that the taxi already gave way to him anyway. We pity the friend who was abandoned due to the cyclist's impulsive rage and it was no surprise that netizens flamed the cyclist's actions big time... -
Decathlon opening 4th and biggest store in Singapore. I'm surprised there is no thread being started here since they are so popz! SG so small need to many megastore? But anyway what's good in Decathlon? Been there so many times so far only buy a pair of shoes and also bag from the City Square store. https://www.straitstimes.com/sport/decathlon-to-open-fourth-and-biggest-store-here-in-collaboration-with-sport-singapore SINGAPORE - Riding on a tie-up with national sports agency Sport Singapore (SportSG), sporting goods retailer Decathlon is set to open its biggest store here yet. The store in Stadium Boulevard in Kallang - Decathlon's fourth here - will be about 5,000 sq m in size and is expected to open its doors in January next year. Decathlon announced the news at its Bedok store on Tuesday (May 22), where a memorandum of understanding was signed by its Asia chief executive Yves Claude and his SportSG counterpart Lim Teck Yin. Called the Decathlon Singapore Lab, the store is the first of its kind in Asia, pioneering the use of technology like virtual simulations and augmented reality. Customers trying out a pair of shoes will be able to get foot scans, for example. "Traditional retail is in trouble around the world. The expectations of customers are changing very quickly, they will not come just for the (store's) layout," said Mr Claude.

The body of a 58-year-old man was found in Kallang River at about 8.10am on Friday morning. A cleaner spotted the floating body in the river near Blk 3 Beach Road. The 58-year-old, who was wearing a grey shirt, was pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene. Chinese evening newspaper Shin Min Daily News said the 70-year-old cleaner had been told by his boss to go check out the river, after someone told the boss that he saw a body in the river. The cleaner told his boss and called the police after confirming that there was really a body. He told Shin Min: "When civil defence officers arrived, I saw them retrieving the body from the river with their bare hands. Last month, another old man also died in the river, and I didn't expect a similar case to happen today." In yet another worksite accident, a 600-tonne crane slid off a trailer on Wednesday afternoon at Kallang, where the new National Stadium is being built. The Straits Times understands that the mishap took place at about 5pm, after the crane had been dismantled and was being transported on a trailer. Some of the sub-contractors at the site witnessed the event and sent back photos to their employer, who posted them on citizen journalism website Stomp. The employer, who only wanted to be known as Ray, said that the crane was one of three which had been installing a roof structure at the site. The 42-year-old believes that the crane could have slid off because its swing table was not locked, allowing the crane body to swing off balance when it was being moved. A spokesman for the Manpower Ministry (MOM) said that the ministry has been "informed of the incident" and is "looking into it". The Straits Times understands that no one was injured.
