I know that when jump start a car, or charge a battery without disconnecting the battery from the car, the positive should be connect to the positive terminal at the battery but negative should be connected to the chasis instead. Why isnt the negative not connected directly to the negative terminal instead? anyone care to explain??

At last, I managed to put my jumpstart battery booster equipment to its actual use i.e. to start my weak car battery. My battery showed no sign of weakness since I left my car parked for 4 days until I tried to leave for a visitation yesterday - a public holiday. Suddenly, the car just refused to start.
