Indonesian teenager to have excess skin removed after obesity treatment https://www.asiaone.com/asia/indonesian-teenager-have-excess-skin-removed-after-obesity-treatment Thirteen-year-old Arya Permana from Karawang, West Java, after years of treatment for obesity, has been declared ready for plastic surgery to reduce his sagging skin as a result of massive weight loss. The surgery for Arya, who was once one of the heaviest children in the world, is scheduled to take place in the next two weeks at the Hasan Sadikin General Hospital (RSHS) in Bandung. "We plan to conduct the surgery in five stages," the hospital's nutrition and metabolic specialist and pediatrician Tisnasari Hafsah, a member of the team of doctors in charge of the boy's treatment, said on Wednesday. Arya weighed 189.6 kilograms at 147 centimeters in height when he was first admitted to the hospital at the age of 10 for a weight-loss programme. He underwent bariatric surgery at Omni Hospital in Jakarta in June 2017. He is now 87 kg, leaving parts of his skin sagging, especially on his belly, arms and thighs. "I am happy. The doctors say parts of my skin will be removed. The surgery will last four to five hours," Arya said while undergoing a health check at the hospital on Wednesday. Thanks to the weight-loss programme, Arya can currently join physical activities with his friends. Previously, he could only lie face down while playing games. RSHS president director Ayi Djembarsari said the obesity of Arya, who hails from Pasir Piring village in Cipurwasari subdistrict, Tegalwaru district, was an interesting case in the medical world. "We are trying to reduce his weight in a short time and, of course, it has to be closely monitored," Ayi said. The hospital's medical and nursing director, Nucki Nursjamsi Hidajat, said Arya was once recorded as one of the 10 most obese children in the world. Another member of Arya's team of doctors, Viramitha Kusnandi Rusmil, said Arya needed a series of preparations to undergo the plastic surgery, so that he would have an ideal body mass index (BMI). "This is a case of super obesity. Arya ideally should be 61 kg in weight. We will know how much the weight loss is only after the surgery," said Viramitha, adding that the surgery would be done when Arya reached 80 kg. Arya's mother Rokayah said the plastic surgery might be covered by the Health Care and Social Security Agency.

Totally one sided and rubbish, imo. We all know there are problems but if they are going to report stuff then .. But that's never going to happen because then it's not 'news'. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/asia/singapores-domestic-workers-routinely-exploited-and-often-abused-in-the-service-of-rich-nationals-10422589.html

As a NS recruit, I did not know much about the Kota Tinggi details but later as a staff officer I had the opportunity to meet these personnel from 2SIR during the usual Friday Tombolo Night. At that time when Singapore was a part of Malaysia our two SIRs were renamed as 1MIR and 2MIR. 2SIR was operationally responsible for the Singapore and southern Johore area. 2MIR (2SIR) was raised in 1962 and billeted at Holland Road Camp. According to my superior who was then a young 2LTA in 2 SIR, Dalgit Singh was already a platoon commander, together with LTA Mejar Singh. 2SIR's CO was a Colonel Campbell, a British seconded from the British Army. It was the crack Indonesian paratroopers from the "KKI", an elite Guards unit from Jakarta which was sent on this mission. The Malaysian police post at Kota Tinggi were alerted of the parachute-landing and the nearest infantry garrison to Kota Tinggi was 2 SIR in Singapore. 1SIR at that time was deployed to the Sabah border with Indonesia. One platoon of 2SIR was sent inside the jungles of Kota Tingi. For those who have ventured into Kota Tinggi (which I did as a child and as a teenager), it has a waterfall as the key attraction. The killing zone was north of the waterfall. 2SIR made no contact with the Indonesians for about a week. However, unknowingly the Indonesians were tailing one of the SIR sections. Not finding them for a week, that section grew tired and went for a bath at one of the nearby Kota Tinggi streams. Everybody left their weapons at the riverbank with no personnel on sentry-duty. For those trained in the SAF doctrine, you are not supposed to do this and at all times, your rifle must be with you. The Indonesians pounded on our boys but one injured personnel managed to sneak away and ran for his life into Kota Tinggi Town. All this time, there was "radio silence" because this was a mission. It was only after the injured personnel emerged from the jungle that the incident became known. When the dead were recovered, their bodies were infested with maggots and were very gruesome Reinforcements were rushed up from Singapore. On that mission were names like James Teo (who was the 5SIR CO for BERSATU PADU in 1971), Jimmy Yap (CO Officer Cadet School), Mahinder Singh (Dy Director SAFTI) and Dalgit Singh (CO 3SIR). They were

It is fine to increase their salary but Singapore government should reduce or even remove the government levy/taxes. It is getting too expensive to hire a domestic helper. Every Good government has the duty to look after the interest of it citizens. http://www.thejakartaglobe.com/internation...november/537983 Singapore to Increase Indonesian Maid Salaries After November Amelia Tan - Straits Times | August 13, 2012 Hiring an Indonesian maid in Singapore will be more expensive by year's end. Employers hiring such maids from November will have to sign a contract with a clause stipulating that the maid must be paid at least S$450 (US$360). Another clause will state that if she works on all her four weekly rest days each month, she has to be paid another S$70 ($56), or S$17.50 ($14) for each day off she works. These two clauses will be in the contracts issued by the Indonesian government. But how far they will go to ensure Indonesian maids are compensated fairly depends on the rigor of enforcement — and the Indonesian Embassy's record in this has been patchy. Nonetheless, embassy counsellor Sukmo Yuwono stressed that from now on the embassy will take a tough stance on its minimum-salary guidelines, and employers and maid agents who flout the terms of the contract will be barred from hiring and recruiting Indonesian maids. Contracts now in force already state maids must be paid a minimum of S$450 a month, but this clause has hardly been enforced. It is an uphill task to get maid agents in Singapore and the recruiters in Indonesia to play by the rules. The Straits Times reported last week that Singapore agents have been working with their Indonesian partners to circumvent the policy pertaining to the sharing of the cost of recruiting and training these maids, which was introduced by Jakarta on May 1; about 260 Indonesian maids were brought in through the "back door" as a result. Add to this Singapore's lack of a minimum wage policy for maids; salaries, fixed by market forces, have settled in the S$420 ($337) to S$450 range for Indonesian maids. Contracts by the Philippine government state that their maids are to be paid at least S$498 (US$400), but Filipino maids generally get S$420 to S$450 a month. Maid agents say some maids, grateful to have a job, do not complain if they get less than the stipulated sum; others are too afraid to complain. Current contracts are silent on how much Indonesian maids should be paid for working on their day off, which now comes once a month. Sukmo said that with the new contract spelling out that maids are to be paid S$70 if they work on all four of their days off in a month, Jakarta is aligning its policies with those of Singapore's. The Singaporean government announced this year that employers taking on new maids and those whose maids are renewing their work permits from January 1 must give their maids a day off every week. The Singaporean government said employers can pay their maids for working on their days off, but the agreement must be in black and white. There are some 206,000 foreign maids in Singapore, and about half of them are from Indonesia. Sukmo said all Singapore-bound maids will be told of the S$450 minimum salary they should get. He added, "I'll investigate each case, and not hesitate to suspend agents and employers who do not follow the rules." The names of offending agents and employers will go into the Indonesian government's online database, which lists the particulars of maids, employers, maid agents, training centers and recruiters. Some maid agency representatives here expressed doubt about the enforceability of the clauses. Some pointed out that Indonesian recruiters and maid agencies here have sealed deals to under-pay the maids they bring in. Orange Employment Agency owner Shirley Ng said, "Adequate policing must be done in both countries to ensure a level playing field for all agents. Some employers are drawn to certain agencies because their maids ask for less." Benny Liew of Comfort Employment said, however, that the higher salary enshrined in the clauses may attract higher-quality and experienced maids. Not all employers try to get a maid on the cheap; some say they are prepared to pay more for experienced, self-starting maids. Jeweller Eileen Tjandra, 42, gives her Indonesian maid a monthly day off and pays her S$520 ($417) a month — above the market rate for experienced maids. She said, "My maid is responsible and requires minimal supervision. I'll give her a S$30 ($24) raise in the next few months to reward her good performance."

Singapore's Foreign Affairs Ministry said it is concerned and disappointed over an incident where two Indonesian marines posed as the two Indonesian perpetrators of the MacDonald House bombing that killed three innocent civilians and injured another 33 in Singapore in March 1965. SINGAPORE: Singapore's Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) said it is concerned and disappointed over an incident where two Indonesian marines posed as the two Indonesian perpetrators of the MacDonald House bombing that killed three innocent civilians and injured another 33 in Singapore in March 1965. The incident happened at the Jakarta International Defence Dialogue exhibition on March 19. Singapore had been invited as a guest to the exhibition. On learning of the incident, the Singapore Armed Forces delegation at the exhibition withdrew from the event and returned to Singapore. Singapore officials at the Embassy in Jakarta also spoke with representatives from the Indonesian Foreign Ministry and the Indonesian military to express disappointment over the incident. MFA added that it is puzzled by comments from Indonesian Defence Minister Purnomo Yusgiantoro. According to Indonesian media, Mr Yusgiantoro said there was "no problem" with the presence of the two marines at the exhibition. MFA said the posing of the two marines at the exhibition did not reflect the spirit of Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa's comments made on February 11 this year that no ill-will or malice was intended towards Singapore. - CNA/fa

The body found near the foot of one of the three towers at Marina Bay Sands (MBS) on Wednesday night is believed to be that of a 33-year-old Indonesian man. Discovered at about 9pm in the outdoor area of a restaurant in the integrated resort , he is believed to have fallen from as high as the 52nd storey of MBS tower two. It is said that his body had broken into several parts due to the force of the fall and the curved exterior of the building, making it hard for first responders to the scene to determine the gender of the body. Parts of his body were also apparently found from the 18th floor down and his legs were recovered about 10m apart on the ground level. Indonesian 'sex cult' leader arrested AFP AFP - Friday, January 30 JAKARTA (AFP) - - An Indonesian cult head accused of leading his followers in wild orgies and giving sermons in his underpants was arrested Thursday and faces charges of "lewd acts" and insulting religion, police said. ADVERTISEMENT Agus Noro, the head of the Satria Piningit Weteng Buwono sect, turned himself in early in the morning after a three-day hunt, Jakarta police spokesman Zulkarnain told AFP. Noro, who is called Agus Imam Solihin or "leader of the faithful" by followers, is alleged to have had sex with his disciples and instructed them to have group sex while he watched in the sect's mansion outside Jakarta. "We're investigating him based on a report made by a female follower named Kartiningsih on January 26. She complained that Noro had asked her to massage him and touch his genitals," Zulkarnain said. "She was also made to have sex with him, while her husband and followers watched," he added. "Lewd acts" and insulting religion carry jail terms of up to nine years and seven years respectively, Zulkarnain said. "If our investigations prove that he carried out lewd acts, we'll name him a suspect and hand him over to the court," Zulkarnain said. "He has about 40 followers, all adults. At the beginning, Noro told them to pray and carry out religious recitations. After several months, he told them he was God and that they didn't have to do that any more," Zulkarnain said. Noro gave religious sermons wearing only his underpants and told his disciples they would be taught "Kamasutra" sex techniques to use in the afterlife, former follower Eko was quoted as saying by news website Okezone. "We just obeyed like we'd been hypnotised," Eko said. Police described the sex guru, believed to be in his 40s, as looking "cool... just like youngsters nowadays," with dyed brown hair and fair skin, the website reported. Picnic si boh?

(JAKARTA) A two-metre-long piece of wing broke away from a jetliner minutes after it took off from Indonesia's largest airport, but the plane managed to land safely, officials said yesterday. The incident late on Wednesday involved a Boeing 737 operated by local carrier Batavia Airways. It will add to concerns about the safety of flying in Indonesia, which suffered a series of accidents earlier this year that killed more than 120 people. The wing section measuring around two metres by 1 1/2 metres fell from the plane around 15 minutes after it left Jakarta's Sukarno-Hatta airport on a domestic flight, said Totok Suwarto, a senior official there. Anton Situmeang, a spokesman for Batavia Air, said the plane underwent a full service 'around one or two months ago', adding that a full probe into the incident had been ordered. Mr Suwarto said the plane returned to Sukarno-Hatta without incident. Detik.Com news website said the wing piece hit a house not far from the airport, but there were no immediate reports of injuries.
