My Latio AT felt jerky this morning when I drove to work. Went direct to AD as its near my office. They told me the ignition coil and spark plugs need to be replaced. Est $900. Went to a small motor shop and the uncle who had a nissan diagnostic computer told me only 1 ignition coil need to change. Est $100 plus. However, spares are available only on Monday. Anyone knows if driving with one misfiring coil will damage the engine?

Last night, my 4 year old Latio suddenly vibrated terribly afetr move off from traffic light, scared and called Insurance company immediately to tow to to Tan Chong Motor, today I was informed 3 out of 4 ignition coils were damaged, the last one also degrade, might not last long. For safety and balance, they requested to replace 4 coils together. total cost was 800+, Just wondering, what is the chance that 3 coils spoil at the same time? is it necessary to replace all the 4 coils?

Hi I expericnced this at low rpm. Car vibrates at low rpm and accelerats with a judder after 2k rpm seems fine. Sent to mechanic and realised one of the ignition cool went dead. I'm driving a Toyota Camry acv40 2007 I still have 3 spare ignition coil that is still of good working condition that we can trade or exchange for fee. Toyota Part Number: 90919-T2005 COIL ASSY, IGNITION Pm me. Thanks.

I recently changed to Denso iridium spark plugs and I noticed that sometimes when I start my engine. It fires up stop for less than a second before it fully starts my engine. Is it a case of Ignition misfire? How do you actually know? Any advice?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=W94iksaQwUo Ignition System Parts Automotive ignition systems are made up of several key components. The trigger device is the ignition module or points, and these supply energy to the coil. The ignition coil multiplies the energy supplied by the module and supplies that energy to the distributor cap and rotor. The spark plugs receive this energy from the cap and rotor through the ignition cables or plug wires and provide a spark to ignite the fuel. Each of these is important to the operation of the ignition system, but to really understand how the system works, some basic theory is needed. Theory Over the years, the way in which the coil is triggered has changed, but the theory is the same. The theory of Magnetic Inductance says that when a current is passed through a conductor, a magnetic field builds around that conductor. When the current is stopped, the field collapses and a voltage is induced into the conductor by the collapsing magnetic field. If another conductor is placed in close proximity to the conductor, and the current is turned off, the voltage will be induced into that conductor as well. We also know that if we form the conductor into a coil, we can strengthen the magnetic field. The stronger the field, the stronger the induced voltage. This is how an ignition coil works. By turning current off and on to one coil, we induce voltage into a second coil. How it Works Start with a coil of wire. Passing a current through a coil of wire causes a very strong magnetic field to develop around that coil of wire. This is called the primary side of the coil and is a coil of a few turns of thick wire. Inside this coil, place a second coil made up of many turns of fine wire. This is called the ignition coil secondary. One end of the primary coil winding is attached to ground, while 12 volts is supplied to the other end of the coil winding. A strong magnetic field is developed. Then, the ignition module, or points set, turns off the current, and the magnetic field collapses around the secondary winding inducing voltage into that winding. That voltage is then carried to the coil tower on the distributor cap. Inside the cap, a spinning rotor picks up the voltage and routes it to the appropriate plug wire. The voltage travels down the plug wire to the spark plug, where it jumps across the gap and ignites the fuel. This is the function of a distributor type ignition system. Later model cars use a distributorless system, and each cylinder has its own coil. The function is the same, except that each coil is triggered by a transistor in the on board computer that turns off current to that coil's primary winding. Was advised to wait for a minute or two after ignition before driving off. And to wait for a while before turning off the engine. Is there any basis to this "good practice"? Also, is there any disadvantage when I drive off when it is show cool temperature indicator?

Went to test drove a Mit Colt Plus 2007 and realized there's clicking sound when i turn the key to 1st point when there is only electric supply, before engine ignition. it's a set of rapid "thiak thiak thiak", wondering is it normal for a mivec engine?

Hi all. Anyone knows of a good workshop that does timing adjustment for old cars? ride has been sluggish lately n I feel the timing is out. Need to adjust. Thanks in advance.

install with EDS today and did a flush for my TB...My Car become more powerful sia lolx can really feel the difference throttle more responsive more smooth..lower FC must try afew tank 1st. worth the money la faster go fix :)

Spiltfire Dspark Improves combustion efficiency! Increases horsepower at all RPM! Improves torque at low and middle RPM and stabilizes voltage!Excellent starting performance and stable idling just install it today with EDS..plus Liqui Moly Motor Protect .. so far engine feel more smooth and quiet. As for lower fuel consumption have to trial after my next full tank..One thing for sure is i sit in EDS his car damn powerfull lolx i think will install his Ziko twin power and H-Projectt power charger the next rd...cheers

Anyone saw the boxes of plasma ignition booster on sale at Mcwell? Its supposed to boost your voltage from 12V to 16V. Not a big increase (since our car runs at ~13.5-14V when its running). However, its not too expensive @$180. So decide to buy one and try out. Not bad. Pickup does increase since I get higher output voltage from the coil now (due to feeding in higher voltage). Higher voltage also means bigger gap for better performance. Downside is my igniter gets much hotter. I better think of some cooling for it to prevent it from burning out. Its not overprice because I have been sourcing for a DC-DC converter for quite sometime and those which can put out 2-3A of current cost over $200..... madness.... Thus this is essentially just a DC-DC converter (conter 12V to 16V), so 180 is still acceptable.

Any recommendation for budget ignition booster?? - MSD Ignition - HKS twin spark - D1 spec VSD II etc...

experts out there.. what are the pros and cons on ignition boosters? supposed to improve ignition with complete combustion but does it affect ECU? affect spark plugs life span? affect ignition coil life span? Please share, cheers!!

Hi all, was wondering if it will do any good to get hold of an adequate ignition booster for stock subaru legacy GT. I heard from an article or forum sometime ago, can't recall where that boxer engines which use 4 separate ignition coils can't have a proper ignition booster to be installed with it. Any truth in that?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/MSD-8252-Bl...=item53dc5c3165 Bought this coil off ebay and finally arrives today. Installation is simply straight forward. Effects is awesome!! I can feel even better low end torque compared to my MAllory coil. 4th gear can go up slope at 30KM/H. My mallory will struggle. Good stuff!

Recently bought a 2nd hand Mallory ignition coil from another MCFer for $50. http://www.mycarforum.com/index.php?autoco...mp;product=5505 Good stuff.... My low end performance improved by quite a margin. Previously, my car will feel very sluggish @ 40KM/H on 4th gear. Now no problem. I can shift earlier now. Why waste $$$ on all those expensive VS stuff when a cheap coil will be able to do the same?

Can anyone give feedback on this stuff in terms of performance?..thankz http://www.sungbeng.com/prfrmcelink/vpmcarspeed.html
