  1. Sweden FTW! A true demonstration of going all out to go green. Using 1 container to ship 20 cars instead of 4, the reducing in carbon footprint is evident, not to mention the lower shipping cost. Ingenious Luvly — a manufacturer from Sweden — has created a method to reduce the shipping costs of its tiny electric car, which has a starting price of €10,000 and is less than nine feet long Source: https://english.elpais.com/economy-and-business/2023-04-23/the-ikea-swedish-car-that-comes-to-your-home-in-parts.html The arrival of electric vehicles (EVs) has allowed for a huge number of new players in the automotive world to emerge. These companies are staking out new territory, competing against established brands in the EV sector. Luvly — a Swedish firm — is one of them. The car manufacturer wants to stand out for its emission-free tiny cars… and for its peculiar delivery system, which has already caused a commotion. With the aim of reducing costs, Luvly has created a system very similar to that of its compatriot, Ikea: the cars are manufactured in pieces before being sent to their destination. This means that shipments can be used much more economically, to the point that, in a container with a capacity for four cars, it’s possible to fit the parts needed for 20 Luvly vehicles. Of course, contrary to what happens with furniture, it won’t be the buyer who is in charge of assembling it. The company will have different regional factories that will be in charge of the assembly. This methodology will apply to all of Luvly’s models, of which several are already planned, such as a three-wheeled sports car, or a small van. But, for the moment, only the first model — Luvly 0 — has seen the light of day. This vehicle is specifically meant for urban use. It’s a very small car that has been designed to move around agilely in the city, occupy a minimal amount of space, consume little energy and, at the same time, maximize the interior. The result is a model with a minimalist design, with a broad windshield and a straight-cut at the rear. The optical groups are very discreet, while the wheels — each one with its own fender — are placed at the four ends of the body. The Luvly 0 car only measures nine feet in length, five feet in width and 4.7 feet in height. These dimensions allow it to be a really light vehicle that only weighs 840 pounds. And, while it’s a two-seater model, it also has a good-sized trunk. Given its urban character, the car’s mechanical section does the job, taking into account its objectives. The brand doesn’t highlight its power, but it can reach speeds of up to 55 miles per hour. One of the strengths of the Luvly is that it has a 6.4 kilowatt battery. It’s divided into two removable modules — each weighing 33 pounds — so it’s possible to charge it at home. In addition, since its energy consumption is very low, a single charge can take it as far as 60 miles. The brand already allows you to sign up on its website to place orders, with a starting price of €10,000 ($11,000).
  2. High time we recycle Even Shanghai does better. Japan is the most amazing - they wash the milk cartons then put them out.. https://www.channelnewsasia.com/news/singapore/ikea-nea-recycling-bin-free-voucher-bto-flats-11771706
  3. Road works are becoming more of a common occurrence on our roads. This calls for drivers to be more aware of their surroundings, since the road barriers usually cut into a lane, making lanes narrower. Watch this video to find out what happens when a driver lacks such awareness when driving. Watch the video of the dramatic accident here: A Citroen MPV was unaware of the road barriers which were set up on Alexandra Road. The driver then proceeded to ram the barriers at a rather high speed, causing a rather violent 'explosion' of barriers. Worst still, the driver nearly smashed into construction workers who were standing nearby, almost causing a fatality. The dislodged barriers also nearly caused a passing motorcyclist an accident. Luckily, he was quick enough to jam brake, saving him crashing into the barrier. Turns out to be that the the motorcyclist was a really top dude, rushing over to the driver of the Citroen MPV to check if he was alright after tending to his own bike. In a rare moment of positivity on social media, especially on road accident pages, netizens also praised the motorcyclist for checking on the Citroen driver despite his own mishap. Another netizen however, pointed out that the driver of the Citroen might have been distracted by his phone. Please be reminded that using a phone while driving may cause you imprisonment of up to 6 months, a fine of up to $1,000 or both, if found guilty. If anything, let this video be a reminder to all that road conditions do change, and that however familiar we are of certain roads, it is unwise to be complacent or distracted when driving at all times. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. 4. Car seen transporting 3-seater sofa on its roof at Ikea carpark in Tampines. https://stomp.straitstimes.com/singapore-seen/car-seen-transporting-3-seater-sofa-on-its-roof-at-ikea-carpark-in-tampines A family has drawn criticism for trying to transport a three-seater sofa on their car roof at the carpark of Ikea Tampines. Facebook page SG Road Vigilante posted a video of the incident that occurred on Wednesday night (Nov 17). In the video, the Citroën C4 is seen trying to exit the carpark with the sofa secured on its roof. The car's occupants have drawn flak from netizens, who felt that they could have just paid for professional delivery. One user commented: "Got money spend for the car but no money spend for delivery." Many also likened the unusual sight to a scene from the Mr Bean television series. In the iconic scene, the titular character is seen maneuvering his vehicle with a mop while seated on a sofa secured to the car roof.
  5. With the relaxing of safe distancing measures kicking in on 19 Aug, 50% of WFH employees are allowed to return to the office. If you are one of those who are still under the WFH arrangement, you would have woken up to a nice cool morning, which is perfect for sleeping in working from home. If you had to go back to the office, well, it sucks to be you. Especially if you live in the East. Why? What started as heavy rain in the wee hours of the morning gradually turned into a flash flood for Singaporeans living in the East. If you missed what happened, watch these videos taken from various perspectives: The flash flood occurred just after Tampines Expressway (TPE) Exit 5, at the junction of Tampines Ave 10 and Pasir Ris Ave 12. What happened? The heavy rain resulted in PUB disseminating numerous flood risk alerts for various locations across the island throughout the morning of 20th August. Here's a video to give you an idea of the intensity and volume of water from today's heavy rain: The flash flood caused a total of 13 vehicles to be partially submerged. As a result of the rising water level, these vehicles could not move due to the excessive water that entered the engine bay. NGL, but I am afraid these vehicles will never be the same again. Aftermath A total of 25 people self-evacuated their vehicles before SCDF officers arrived on the scene, while SCDF officers evacuated 5 other people. The SCDF also conveyed 1 person to Changi General Hospital due to a leg injury. We wish the injured party a speedy recovery!! Netizens' comments Even if the EV won't sot, I also sot from its repair cost. Any SUV owners want to ascertain this? Hahahaha buy already, you dare to bring out and kayak during a flash flood? Driving tip: If you aren't aware of what to do during a flood, don't worry we got you covered. 6. IKEA Now Making Affordable Gaming Furniture In Collaboration With ASUS ROG source: https://geekculture.co/ikea-now-making-affordable-gaming-furniture-in-collaboration-with-asus-rog/ IKEA is probably not the first name that comes to mind when it comes to PC gaming and accessories, with the likes of Secretlab and Omnidesk dominating that space. But it appears that the Swedish furniture maker is venturing into new horizons with a new range of gaming furniture and accessories in a new partnership with ASUS ROG. IKEA first announced the news earlier this week, stating that it will be teaming up with the Taiwanese PC giant to produce a new line of “affordable” gaming chairs, tables and other accessories. This new range of roughly 30 products will be launched in China in February 2021, and will be available for the rest of the world come October 2021. “There are a lot of existing conventions about gaming which are often stereotypical or negative, for example, all the games are built on violence, gaming is asocial and it is predominantly a men’s activity. In fact, figures show that gaming is among the most truly cross-demographic activities, and it can improve an individual’s mental health and general well-being,” says Ewa Rychert, Global Business Leader of Workspace. “We hope that the new gaming range will help to embrace and enable the benefits of gaming in life at home.,” ”ROG is thrilled to be partnering with IKEA to create the ultimate gaming lifestyle for gamers. Gamers have always dreamed of the perfect gaming space that is both comfortably functional and enables full immersion in games,” says Kris Huang, General Manager of ASUS Gaming Gear and Accessories Business Unit. “With years of experience delivering innovative gaming solutions to gamers, ROG has a strong understanding of the gaming community. Together with IKEA as an expert in home furnishing, we envision that this collaboration will create synergies that empower gamers to build the gaming space they have always imagined in the comfort of their own homes.” What exactly IKEA and ASUS ROG will come up with for their new line remains to be seen, though we can imagine their new chairs, for example, could be at least half the price of the likes of a Secretlab or Royale one, which typically retail for about S$400 and up. Speaking of gaming chairs, we’ve seen just what ASUS ROG could do with its very own Chariot RGB gaming chair, so we imagine IKEA will be using that as a blueprint of sorts.
  7. IKEA says LEGO Brick Storage Boxes are coming to S’pore, they double up as home decorations source: https://www.greatdeals.com.sg/2020/08/29/ikea-lego-bygglek-collection Good news for LEGO fans – IKEA Singapore has just announced they will be bringing the much-anticipated LEGO collaboration referred to as BYGGLEK. IKEA x LEGO At first look, the BYGGLEK is simply a set of storage boxes. It is made from the same material as LEGO bricks to ensure the same quality and feel. The BYGGLEK collection consists of 4 different products – a set of 3 small boxes, two sets of bigger boxes and one set of LEGO bricks to kickstart the playful experience. However, it’s unclear at this moment if IKEA Singapore will bring in all of them. Besides the obvious purpose of storing stuff, the lids also have the iconic LEGO studs which let you create and recreate unique decorations at home. Here are some examples. Only limited by your creativity. You can have some family fun by creating the monster in your closet with the new BYGGLEK storage sets and of course, a bunch of LEGO bricks. So cool. Coming in 2021 IKEA Singapore did not specify an exact date on when the LEGO storage boxes will be released, only saying it is coming in early 2021.
  8. Even if you are in a hurry, this is not the way to ride. Spotted going around group chats in Whatapp, a video of a biker who tried to overtake and crashed has gone viral recently. The accident which happened on TPE near IKEA Tampines, in the direction of Pasir Ris, was captured by the camera car on 27 Jun 2020. In the video we can see this biker who apparently had no bike license or insurance crashing badly while he tried to overtake the camera car which was changing lanes. Check out how far his bike went ahead of the camera car after the collision! According to Sg Road Vigilante, the rider was later arrested. Thankfully, the rider escaped death and we hope the authorities deal with him properly for hurting the road divider that he crashed into. Check out what netizens have to say about this crash!
  9. IKEA Donates 800 Mugs After Learning Migrant Workers Drink Straight From Milk Cartons source: https://mustsharenews.com/ikea-donates-mugs/ IKEA Donates 800 Mugs After Non-Profit Finds Migrant Workers Drinking Straight From Cartons When we drink directly from cartons, most of the time it’s because we’re lazy. But when one volunteer spotted migrant workers drinking milk directly from the carton, she was shook to discover it was because they had no cups. Upon learning of this, non-profit organisation It’s Raining Raincoats reached out to donors. And before they knew it, furniture giant IKEA had come on board and donated 800 mugs to the cause. On Friday (24 Apr), they detailed this heartwarming story on their Facebook page. IKEA donates 800 mugs to migrant workers From cartons of milk, migrant workers now have cartons of IKEA mugs as well. Those with colour preferences can choose between turquoise and light green. We’re sure that the mugs were hot commodities when distributed, given the long but aptly spaced queue. We sure hope that this donation has sparked a little joy in their lives. IKEA donates snacks as well On top of the 800 mugs, IKEA also donated cartons of snacks from their food outlet. In line with Covid-19 guidelines, the furniture giant closed all their restaurants. We’re glad to see that the food is not wasted, and donated to a worthy cause. Now migrant workers can happily snack, while taking a drink from their new swanky mugs. Every little bit helps They say it’s the little things in life that matter, but migrant workers don’t even have “little things” like mugs. This shows that all acts of kindness, no matter how small thing, can make a big difference. Kudos to IKEA for stepping forward. Let’s not take things for granted, and help where we can. Together we can get through this tough time.

  11. I came across this article about Ikea cabinets killing children in the US. Ikea USA issued a recall on it some time ago (now "relaunching" that recall). The recall for similar cabinets was extended to China but Ikea Singapore still claims it is safe to use in Singapore. Some questions come to mind: 1. How can the same item be unsafe in USA and China but safe in Singapore? Our children are made tougher than ang mo and PRC children? 2. Ikea Singapore says there are no incidents in Singapore except one from 10 years ago. Are they waiting for something to happen before they act? 3. People have been saying that consumer safety is lacking in China. Guess what, Singapore is worse! (at least in this case). Disclosure: have a toddler and ikea stuff at home

  13. http://www.soshiok.com/article/22815 Home furnishing retailer, Ikea Singapore, announced today that they will resume the sale of their signature meatballs at the Ikea Restaurant and Swedish Food Market at both Alexandra and Tampines stores from tomorrow, Friday, March 8. This comes after the release of DNA results by a local independent lab that confirms meatballs sold locally contain only beef and pork, and the Halal-certified ones made of beef and chicken. For one day only on March 8, the meatballs will be available at $0.10 per piece at the IKEA Restaurant at both stores to mark its return. The Ikea Restaurant will be opened from 9.30am to 10.30pm (last order at 10pm). Ikea is committed to serving and selling food that is safe, healthy and produced with care for the environment and the people who produce it. don't know got include the frozen uncooked ones or not
  14. Hi all, Have any of you ever experienced anything like I had at a checkout/cashier counter? The Sunday evening today, my Missus and I were at the Alexandra's outlet checking out items on offer. We had a pleasant 2hrs of browsing and picking out stuff we needed. Everything went swimmingly well until we were at a queue to pay for the stuff. When it was our turn, a lady approached the cashier with a query or two. The two of them were engaged in a conversation and the cashier asked me to wait when i protested. That's when I heard she uttered " she's our big customer " My Missus was equally shocked when she asked me what happening and I repeated the exact same thing to her. All the while when she was looking for her supervisor for assistance, she acted as if she had done no wrong. It was all over in maybe about 10 minutes. When it was time to serve me a.k.a " a small customer" she kept apologising,to her credit, but I was too miffed to react to her apologies. Would anyone react differently or how would any of you respond in this kind of situation?
  15. Hi, On 22, March 2016, my car (Ssangyong) was seriously damaged due to a hit-and-run incident at Ikea Tampines; (Park Level 1; parking lot 230). We found some broken parts at the site of the accident which belong to a silver Daihatsu Terios or Toyota Rush. Please find enclosed the picture of a similar car. The Terios/Rush must be damaged on the left front bumper with dark grey scratches, it might be that the bumper is very loose as we found many clips and screws all over the accident site. In the enclosed picture, I have marked the missing piece and also where the Terios/Rush must be damaged. Actually, Daihatsu Terios and Toyota Rush are the same cars with the only difference being the company logo. Please have a look out to help to find the Terios/Rush with the missing part and dark grey scratches driving around. For anyone who can send me any information (such as an image of the car, car plate number, name of driver, video, etc) which eventually helps to find the culprit, will get a reward of 500,- SGD in cash. All information given will be treated with 100% confidential and will only be handover to the police. I will not reveal the name of the person who gives me the information without his/her permission even to the police. Please send me a message here on MyCarForum. Many thanks for your help in advance. ROGASI
  16. HI guys, I have a IKEA lamp with a dimmer function. The bulb (see below) that comes with it is super hot. I asked my nearby hardware shop and they said the LED bulb they sell can fit into the lamp head, but it cannot work with dimmer. If I adjust the dimmer, the bulb may blow. Why is that so? What bulb should I change to and where can buy? My main objective is to change to a not hot bulb.
  17. Getting ridiculous Hope she isnt local Stomp contributor Michelle was amazed by the sight of this casually-dressed woman calmly eating her breakfast on a display set of dining furniture at Ikea. The woman was seen eating from a plate of food while browsing her mobile phone. She related the sight: "Yesterday morning my husband and I went to IKEA for breakfast, and to shop for furniture for our new home. "You won't believe what we saw. A woman was having breakfast in the dining showroom. "She was even in her pyjamas! "What kind of people do we have nowadays? "You don't just waltz in and treat a place like your home, right? "Anyway, here's a video recording of it that my husband managed to take. "Super shameless."

    A day at Ikea

Such a cold, wet and dreary day. How I wish can go Ikea and snuggle up
  19. Ikea just can't get a break. First, the international purveyor of self-assembled furniture and Scandanavian hors d'ouvres got roped into the horsemeat scandal when traces of horse DNA were found in meatballs and sausages it sold. Now, according to the Guardian, almond cakes from its restaurants in 23 countries are being pulled after bacteria usually found in fecal matter was discovered. The Swedish retailer stopped sales of its almond cakes after Chinese customs authorities found two batches that fell short of the country's hygiene standards, the Wall Street Journal reported. Ikea said Chinese customs officials last December seized and destroyed a batch of 1,800 cakes imported from Sweden after tests revealed that the cakes contained a prohibitively high level of coliform bacteria
  20. Friends, anyone know is IKEA opening as per normal for these few days or otherwise?? Wishing everyone a propserous lunar new year :) Huat ah!

  22. Hit-&-run case at Tampines IKEA but luckily got witness give guilty party's vehicle no.: http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._to_inform.html Thank you to stranger who left note on my car to inform of hit-and-run STOMPer Tan returned to her car parked at a the Tampines Ikea carpark and found that her front bumper had been damaged. A note was left on her car, informing her that another car had knocked into her vehicle. Said the STOMPer: "On Mar 4, at around 11.30am, my black car, a Mazda RX 8 was parked at Tampines Ikea carpark level 1. "When I came out from Ikea at around 12.47pm, I saw a slip on my windscreen from afar. "I walked over and saw that my car's front bumper had dropped." The STOMPer said that according to the slip of paper, a black car had knocked into the STOMPer's car and the driver had driven off. The note had also included a number plate, apparently belonging to the car. The STOMPer added: "I thank that kind soul who left that paper."
  23. Hi all. My family's Altis got hit by a hit-&-run driver on Saturday morning (17th July) around 930am to 1030am. My parents reversed parked @ IKEA and went for breakfast around 930am. When they came back around 1030am, the headlamp was cracked in, and bumper almost torn out. No pics as I was in camp for reservist and was not with my family. Hope someone witnessed the incident. If so, please call or sms @ 94595453. Sincerest thanks in advance.
  24. Hi everyone, I left Ikea Tampines on Saturday night only to see my front damaged. My car plate and bumper are dented in, leaving the scratch marks very visible. My vehicle was parked properly and totally in the lot, not to mention protruding. What made me very unhappy is to know that it is a hit and run case. To the owner who did that and ran away: By running away goes to show you are a coward who dare not admit your mistake. I cannot imagine if you are a parent and you teach good morals to your kid but yet run away like a mouse. There are a few occasions that I had left a note on the victim's car after knocking on him but only to find out the other driver left the matter to rest. What makes you think that if you were to leave your name and contact on my windscreen, I will ask you to pay a huge amount of money for my repairs?? What irks me the most is your bo chap attitude. Your turn will come; What goes around comes around.
  25. Most people pronounce IKEA as e-kea (e followed by kea) but I was told the correct pronunciation should have been i-kea (i followed by kea)
