Netizens are outraged over an ad for social workers that appears to label the disabled as "Hopeless". See here the list of comments: https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...&...pe=1&ref=nf The ad features a social worker helping amputees to play ball, and is captioned with the word "Hopeless" in large font, followed by the words, "if not for Ruth Lim, a Professional Social Worker". The offending ad has since gone viral on the internet, with many netizens slamming it for being "rude", "thoughtless", "distasteful", "insensitive" and "downright insulting", among other things. One outraged netizen, 'Ingrid Wee', said, "They could have put it in so many other angles but they chose the most juvenile and insensitive one. Shame on you MCYS!" Netizen 'Elaine Teng' said her jaw dropped when she saw this ad on a bus recently. Another netizen, 'Lissa Johari', found it to be condescending, and asked whether the ad meant that the disabled had no dignity. The ad is part of a campaign launched on 20 Feb by the Ministry of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS), and was launched by its acting minister Mr Chan Chun Sing. The campaign is aimed at attracting people to join social work, with the tagline "Empowered. To Change Lives." Check out the Facebook page set up by MCYS for this campaign: https://www.facebook.com/socialworkerSG They also label delinquents as "future destroyed".

Extracted from STOMP.....and I think this is too much STOMPer Justin's father, who is a cabby, encountered this man who reportedly refused to pay the $10.20 fare after reaching his destination at Normanton Park. According to his father, the man had got on the cab near Boat Quay and appeared to be drunk. When his father made a police report, the police told him that they could not help, said the STOMPer. STOMPer Justin wrote: On May 17, my dad, who is a taxi driver, came back home after an ugly encounter with a drunk passenger. "As shown in the police report, my dad picked up this Caucasian from around Boat Quay. "Upon reaching his destination at Normanton Park, the drunk passenger unreasonably refused to pay the fare. "He then argued, saying 'Why should I pay?' "My dad then told him that he will call the police if he refused to pay the fare and he challenged my dad to 'carry on'. "Two policemen arrived on the scene five minutes after my dad called the police. "However, all they did were to find out what happened and recorded my father's ID and told him to go to the police station the following day to make a report. "They never even tried to look for and question the passenger, who by then was in his house. "After my dad made the police report, they told my dad that they cannot do anything to help also. "Throughout this incident, the police did not even try to contact the passenger. "My dad, who has no details of the passenger, also cannot seek help from his company. "We did not post this story because we want him to pay up. "The issue of the money is small, but, in this case, if even the police cannot do anything, then what are the taxi drivers going to do if this type of incident happens more? "I believe this could happen to any taxi driver in Singapore. "The sad thing here is that the passenger got off so easily, while my poor dad does not even know what else he can do." http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg..._taxi_fare.html

After looking thru quite a few surveys about the earning power of working individuals, I have come to a conclusion that if you are 30 and above and have at least a diploma or general degree and is above 30 yrs of age...you should be earning a gross definite salary of at least $5000 per mth ( if not more!!) excluding bonus etc ... If you are not doing so..it would mean only one thing...YOU ARE DAMN HOPELESS! ...by current Sillypore Standards. Any bros/sis who would disagree with me?

If you read this article, will you feel singaporean are hopeless ? didnt even dare to protest ? Mon, Aug 27, 2007 AP (Associated Press) Protesters keep marching over fuel price hikes YANGON, Myanmar (AP) -- Dozens of pro-democracy activists kept up a rare show of defiance against Myanmar's military regime Monday, marching to protest the rising cost of basic goods in the impoverished nation following a fuel price hike, witnesses said. They said about 50 people, wearing white, marched in the bustling township of Bago, some 80 kilometers (50 miles) north of the country's commercial center, Yangon. Demonstrators shouted slogans calling for lower consumer prices, as plainclothes police watched from a distance without intervening or making arrests, the witnesses said. The demonstrators dispersed without incident after marching along a busy street in Bago for more than half an hour. News also emerged of a protest in Mogok, about 680 kilometers (420 miles) north of Yangon, in an area famous for gemstone mining. Mogok residents said more than 200 people, including members of detained opposition leader Aung San Suu Kyi's National League for Democracy party, marched Saturday to protest the fuel price hike and dispersed peacefully without any arrests. Earlier this month, gas pump prices doubled after Myanmar's military junta slashed state subsidies that had kept domestic oil prices low for years. The hikes resulted in increases in prices of public transport -- some since rolled back -- and also higher prices for some basic commodities due to higher transport costs. The move triggered a number of small, peaceful protests last week, mainly in Yangon. Police subsequently detained at least 65 activists, including several leaders of Myanmar's pro-democracy movement. Myanmar's ambassador to the Philippines, Thang Tun, told The Associated Press on Sunday that Myanmar could no longer afford to subsidize fuel so heavily due to steep oil price increases worldwide. He said cutting the subsidies was not a political move. Myanmar activists have speculated that the government needed to slash the subsidies to remedy a cash shortage. Some analysts said the measure could be a prelude to privatization, or that it may even reflect conflict within the junta -- and could be a deliberate attempt to provoke unrest, further stalling the approval of a long-awaited constitution and embarrassing military ruler Gen. Than Shwe. Myanmar's ruling junta has been widely criticized for human rights violations, including the extended detention of Suu Kyi and more than 1,200 other political prisoners. Economic dissatisfaction sparked the country's last major upheaval in 1988, when mass demonstrations broke out seeking an end to the military rule that began in 1962. The army violently subdued those protests. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of people were killed. The current protests are nowhere near the scale of those in 1988, and the junta appeared to be taking no chances in trying to clamp down on them. The military rulers held a general election in 1990, but refused to honor the results when the National League for Democracy won in a landslide.
