  1. Encountered this persistent road hogger on AYE this morning, was behind him all the way from Telok Blangah to West Coast. This fella just drive at <70km/h on the extreme right lane and keeping at least 3 car lengths from the car in front of him by braking early just to keep the distance. High beamed him a few times but of course he is not bothered. Really cannot understand why these jokers are so inconsiderate.
  2. Often we have seen road users complain about terrible road users and there are countless videos on youtube that depict the horrors of Singapore road. But how many times have you encountered road users who raised his left hand to signal a "thanks" after you slowed down a little to let him filter in your lane or allow them to enter the expressway? They did their part by signalling early. I believe in what goes around comes around, eventually others will give you way if you need it eventually. Just a night rant. :) Age is catching up. Unable to sleep much at night. :(

    Carpark hoggers

was reading the thread on those who open doors and hit other cars ... and it reminded me : today my aunt had birthday lunch at a restaurant in the hdb area ... reached there but the white lots were taken up only left red lot, so circled around the carpark until the third time when i saw a man carrying two plastic bags with him walk up to his blue lancer. so i drove up and waited 3 cars infront of his lot and waited for him to come out. at the same time, a Sunny had also come up behind but that Sunny knew i was waiting for the lot and parked further back. after waiting for almost 4 mins, the $%^!!@MF lancer still never come out. so it dawned upon my that this !@$#~MF was a carpark hogger and true enuff, once i drove off, he immediately came out of his lot !! KNNBCCB !! then the Sunny lucky lor ... just slip in ...

  8. I usually don't care about this species of road users unless there is no way I can overtake them due to traffic condition and their primitive instinct to hog. Personally, I encounter (3)Ego Porcine most frequently. This particular sub-species is one of the kind. They differ from the other 2 sub-species by their overly developed ego that is much much larger than their re-known pea-sized brain. They also have a very acute awareness of the surrounding (very much the direct opposite of Blur Porcine). When they detect from their review mirror that you are signaling left and starting to sieve out to overtake, they will speed up in attempt to block your overtaking attempt. The only way to subdue this sub-species is: 1) to time your overtaking maneuver so that you have adequate space to accelerate in the 2nd lane. You will need to factor in it's accelerative prowess based on your knowledge of the particular make/model of vehicle it is operating. 2) your vehicle must be more powerful than it's vehicle. Due to the different power/weight ratio of various vehicles, it is not practical to base it on absolute HP/torque figure. A personal guideline I shall share will be that your vehicle must have at least 1-2secs faster in 0-100kph timing. Please also take into account aftermarket modifications which can adversely affect the outcome of the encounter. In general: - stickers: the more stickers they have, the less substance in the engine bay. - brand-name stickers: usually just a wish list of mods they are saving up for. - LEDs: see stickers - Blow off valve sound: depends on vehicle, not all are real - Exos: see blow off valve. Main weakness in this sub-species is the fact that the size of the ego is inversely proportional to the vehicle prowess it is operating. So exploit that. Special caution: be prepared to have horns blaring and high beam flashing in your rear view mirror once you are successful in subduing this creature as it is their only way to soothe their bruised ego. [:p] ****for those who chose (4)...please do not comment in this thread you bloody hogger!!!****
  9. what are you interesting encounters? i got the following: 1. purposely slow down 2. tapping brake 3. spray water
  10. I really feel very PO when it comes to road hoggers. I have no grudge against someone who buys a new ride. BUT pse dun think that you own the road. Travelling at 80km/hr on extreme right lane and braking when there is no car infront. Really PO with them. If you want to show off, keep to the middle lane on the expressway. Extreme Right lane is for overtaking and emergency. 90km/hr is only a gauge but the main purpose for the right lane is for emergency!!! BE Considerate!!!!
  11. http://www.asiaone.com/Motoring/Drivers/St...1107-98945.html Don't let road bullies force you to speed By Cheryl Lim I HAVE come to a conclusion regarding Singaporean drivers: Few hold any regard for traffic laws. This is what I have realised since I started driving a year ago and began coming into contact with other motorists. You might think I'm being presumptuous, but statistics back this up. According to the Singapore Police Force website (www.spf.gov.sg), there was a jump in the number of speeding- related accidents, from 1,656 cases in 2006 to 1,766 last year. Speeding-related fatal accidents also rose from 66 in 2006 to 74 last year. What this means is that more lives were needlessly lost because some motorists chose not to adhere to the speed limit. I have always been very respectful of our fine country's numerous traffic laws. I keep to the speed limit, signal before changing lanes and give way when I am supposed to. But despite that, I've been a victim of speeding. For instance, I try to empathise when a motorist overtakes my car abruptly without signalling - an action open to the charge of careless driving, which could lead to the awarding of 6 demerit points and a possible jail term. I tell myself that he might be in a big rush and is aware of my Jedi-like reflexes to get out of his way. The last straw for me, though, is that it is simply not enough that I obey traffic laws and quietly put up with people breaking them. I'm now so harassed on the road that I have to break them myself. Take, for example, a common experience I have on expressways. I have been tailgated, "high-beamed" and even honked at when I was travelling at the stipulated speed limit on the extreme right lane of expressways. In short, I'm basically harassed and taunted for obeying the law. Actually, the only reason why I even travel on the extreme right lane is that I am forced there by road hogs on the centre lane. These include lorries packed to the gills and huge gravel-transporting trucks travelling at a mind-numbing 60kmh on a highway with a 90kmh limit. These vehicles are supposed to be travelling only on the left lane. Readers should try going on the slip-road linking the BKE to the KJE towards Tuas at 50kmh, which is the speed limit on the slip-road. Once, I was hounded by a six-wheeler towing a huge concrete slab, whose driver was tailgating me impatiently. I managed to escape his wrath not by exceeding the speed limit, but by escaping to the left lane. I can't think of any realistic solution to this, besides suggesting that the police be more rigorous in enforcing the speed limit. High-beaming and tailgating are motorists' rude and direct way of telling me that by making the choice not to speed, I'm moving too slowly to share the highway with them. But I protest: Motorists shouldn't be pressured and harassed by other law-breaking motorists into doing the same. [email protected]
