  3. Singapore JI leader may be in Indonesia: police Posted Sat Jul 12, 2008 2:46pm AEST Indonesia police chief says a suspected Islamic militant believed to head a Singapore cell of regional network Jemaah Islamiah (JI) may be hiding in Indonesia, where he could blend in more easily. Mas Selamat bin Kastari escaped from a Singapore detention centre in February, where he was being held for allegedly plotting to crash a plane into Singapore's airport. Singapore officials have previously expressed concern Kastari might try to hook up again with the JI network, blamed for the 2002 nightclub bombings in Bali that killed 202 people. Asked whether Kastari might be hiding in Indonesia, Indonesian police chief Sutanto told reporters: "It's possible." He added that language and cultural similarities meant the fugitive would be able to blend in more easily. "If he moved to Europe he would be caught," he added. Kastari's escape embarrassed Singapore authorities and sparked a massive manhunt on the island which saw Nepali Gurkhas combing forests and a global security alert from Interpol. The group of 10 were detained in raids by Indonesia's anti-terrorism unit and a large cache of bombs was found. http://www.abc.net.au/news/stories/2...?section=world
  4. Tiger Airways passengers stranded at Changi We waited and waited for news By Chong Shin Yen December 21, 2007 THEY were stranded at the airport and did not know if their Tiger Airways flight was postponed or cancelled. So when an airline representative turned up, she was mobbed by many passengers. The episode in the early hours of 8Dec was filmed by a passenger and posted on the Internet. In it, a passenger was heard asking: 'Where's your manager?' She replied: 'He's in bed.' That riled the crowd even more. The questions then came thick and fast: Can you wake him up, please? What's happening? You call him. Why is your manager not helping you? The incident happened after a Tiger Airways flight to Krabi in Thailand was turned back and landed at the Budget Terminal in Changi Airport. UNPLEASANT Miss Adeline Ee, one of the passengers on board flight TR188, recounted how her holiday took an unpleasant turn. She said the plane was supposed to depart at 8.15pm the night before. But the short flight was delayed till 8.50am. After the passengers had boarded, it was again delayed and took off only at 9.30pm. Then, half an hour into the flight, the pilot announced over the PA system that they needed to turn back and that all passengers had to get off the plane. Said Miss Ee, 31, who works in the media industry: 'We were told that we needed to change planes due to a problem with the air conditioning.' She and her boyfriend had paid about $350 each for their return air tickets. They were travelling with two friends and the flight to Krabi was supposed to take slightly more than two hours. She said that shortly after they landed at the Budget Terminal, an airline employee came to give them sandwiches, bottled water and blankets. They were also told that the new departure time was delayed from 11.50pm to 12.30am. But 12.30am came and went with no further updates. 'Everyone was waiting for news. We saw the pilot, the crew, and other airport staff leaving,' said Miss Ee. 'Even the cleaning lady had gone. We were left there stranded.' Finally, a staff member from the airline turned up at about 2am to take down their particulars. She was mobbed by the irate passengers. And that was when Miss Ee's boyfriend, Mr Scott MacDonald, 40, who is in the food and beverage line, whipped out his digital camera and started filming. Miss Ee said she did not know what position the woman held. She said: 'The wait continued and it was way past 2am when the staff finally told us that the flight was cancelled. We were told we could take the next flight at 11am. 'By then, everyone was tired and only wished to leave.' Miss Ee said that they then had to leave the terminal via the customs exit at the arrival hall at about 3.30am. As for passengers who needed accommodation, arrangements were made for them to stay at a a hotel in town. Miss Ee and her friends flew to Krabi on the 11am flight later that day. But because they were a day late in arriving, they had to forfeit more than a hundred dollars which they had paid for one night's hotel stay. She said: 'It was a bad experience.' When contacted, Tiger Airways confirmed that flight TR188 had been delayed. It did not respond to queries on why passengers were not informed about the cancellation earlier. The spokesman said: 'Tiger Airways apologises to all affected passengers and we are contacting each of them to offer flight travel refund. We do not compromise the safety of our passengers and this may at times, result in delays or cancellations of flights.' The spokesman added that the flight had turned back after take-off due to technical difficulties. http://newpaper.asia1.com.sg/news/st...51200,00.html?? wow... sounds like another Aeroflot... http://202.157.174.100/20071218-ss-tigerair/Player.html
