Reputable = Exquisite = $$$? [laugh] Jokes aside, Samantha & her fiance should look for restaurants instead of hotels which typically charges higher for everything: food, ambience, service, venue, etc And probably they are looking at weekends which explains the $1,450/table charge , excluding taxes some more. Unless they expect their guests to all bao BIG BIG ang pows to help pay for or subsidise the cost, they should really source for cheaper alternatives or even none at all. Have known couples to squabble over everything leading up to the wedding which is regrettable Last thing they need is a glaring deficit over the wedding dinner budget which could not be recovered by the red packets collected. From ST Forum: http://www.straitstimes.com/premium/forum-...-point-20130226 Hefty price hikes for wedding banquet WHEN my fiance and I inquired with several reputable hotels about the cost of holding a wedding banquet, we were told that the cost of a table for 10 guests averaged about $1,450 (excluding taxes). What was more shocking was that prices were set to increase by 5 per cent if we did not act fast. Friends working in the hospitality industry confirmed that prices for banquet tables increase by an average of 5 per cent every year. However, the quality of the food does not differ. Even the rate of inflation does not justify such a yearly increase. What industry regulations are in place to ensure that hotels and restaurants do not overcharge? Samantha Chan Wei Bing (Ms)

My insurance premium last year was around SGD700...Quoted this year renewal premium of around SGD980...Luckily my chair was steady enough to hold me...Else I would have to make a claim from my personal accident insurance for falling off my chair!!! A hefty 40% increase...Wasn't it protrayed as a 10% -20% increase on the newspaper??? How come mine was 40% when I have not scored a single demerit point and make a single claim over the past 15 years of driving??? The "market value" of my car is dropping every year yet my premium is increasing every year...When I am driving at those days when a 1.6 saloon cost more than 100k...My insurance premium was only around SGD600...What is going on here??? Did the overhead really increase that much??? Is there really alot of people making a claim using fake injuries??? Is it a situation like the chinese saying "yang mou chu zhai yang shen shang"(the goat fur will be from the goat)...The insurance people just happily passed on the cost to consumers??? So will it in evolve to a stage when a person decided not to own any car anymore in his lifetime...He will just lightly crashed his car against a pillar and claim injury???

A breakdown of all cost for the repairs i've done on the car. Air con compressor - 900 Cooling coil - 780 Rear axle - 800 4 windows lifter - 170x4= 680 1 rear passenger locking assy. - 200 I guess all these are due to wear and tear. After a period of time, all these things start to break down.. A real hefty sum maintaining the car.
