<The Suzuki Jimny Fuses With The Suzuki Every To Make The Cutest Overland Kei Car The custom Jimry is a Jimny with a sleeper compartment. Kind of. Photo: T-Style A tuner in Yokohama, Japan combined the looks and off-road capability of the Suzuki Jimny with the passenger capacity and space efficiency of the Suzuki Every. The combination producing what T-Style Design calls the Suzuki Jimry, an overland kei car that may not have the off-road chops of the Jimny, but certainly has the attitude. This is probably as close as we’ll get to a Jimny with sliding van doors and I love it. The Jimry is built using the Suzuki Every as a base according to Autocosmos, but it has some modifications to its suspension that make it more trail worthy. Photo: T-Style The stock Suzuki Every sits almost 6 inches off the ground, and the Jimry mods raise it by 1.5 inches for a total of 7.5 inches of ground clearance. The stock 13-inch tires are replaced by 14- or 15-inch tires, depending on the build. Some Jimry builds are 4WD, but not all. And others get even more ground clearance, up to four inches over stock. The Jimry keeps the Every’s 660cc three-cylinder engine to comply with Kei car regulations. That engine makes about 63 horespower and 70 lb-ft of torque. Many of the conversions from TSD come with a five-speed manual transmission, but some get an automatic gearbox. Other gear includes a top box and rooftop tent, along with custom mudguards and bumpers that add to the Jimny look. Of course, it wouldn’t be complete without the Jimny grille. The grille sits below what looks like the tiniest “hood” ever, but since the Suzuki Every is a cabover design, the hood is not covering an engine. And I’m unsure if it’s the stocky dimensions or stand-offish front end but I’m getting Hummer H2 vibes. Even then, I still can’t help but love all the Jimry builds. Photo: T-Style Photo: T-Style The mods keep going into the interior, which has slide-out storage compartments beneath a modular bed. The bed sits atop the rear seats when these are folded and it takes up the entire rear portion of the cabin. That’s only in one of the Jimry builds advertised by TSD, and it looks like the mods are made to suit the owner. Prices for the Jimry range from $21,725 to $22,337 or so. That’s for whole Jimry builds. Autocosmos reports that the modifications alone start at around $2,178. Photo: T-Style Photo: T-Style Photo: T-Style Photo: T-Style Photo: T-Style>

Watched plenty of war movies, most famous of course was Black Hawk Down, with the ubiquitous Humvee (actual abbreviation is HMMWV for High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle) seen all over the battlefield as the basic utility jeep for the US forces and then I saw this at a car park: Sua ku never seen this HUMMER H3 before but know that it was made by the same company that churns out the Humvees. From One Motoring website, read that this is a 3.653L monster jeep with a maximum laden weight of 2660 kg and unladen weight of 2231 kg. A petrol guzzler yes? Wonder what is its present OMV...

It's no longer a secret that Hummer is no longer in production today. Yet, does it ever come across your mind what the real reason is? Well, while some may say it's because of the rather old fashioned look the model sports, we'll say that it's because the Hummer H2 is actually a disguise of some sort of an old Chevrolet Tahoe, for example. Unfortunately, the Russians didn't actually know what the Hummer was all about, at least not until this hilarious Russian video went live on the internet. Well, considering they're half the world apart, it may be understandable. However, after watching this video, you should realise that instead of being a dream American All-Wheel Drive (AWD) V8 'conquer-any-terrain-and-obstacle' vehicle, the Hummer H2 is actually a go-nowhere vehicle. Just imagine, the car can't even climb a small concrete block. As you can see in the video, the Hummer drivetrain sends power to the rear instead of the front tyres, which is a clear reason it isn't climbing the concrete block. Eventually, as you can tell, the rear tyres go deeper into the snow and just remain there. Hilarious!

If you are a fan of or have played the video game series Halo, then you will recognise the vehicle you see here. It is known as the Warthog (a.k.a the M12 Light Recon Vehicle) and it is like a crossover between a dune buggy and a huge truck. This real life version of the Warthog was commissioned by 343 Industries (the company that made Halo 4) and they engaged a Los Angeles based marketing company to build it. Franchise development director at 343 Industries, Frank O' Connor, mentioned that the company wanted to really build something that people could literally see, touch, reach out and enjoy. O' Connor managed to persuade the marketing department to approve his team's idea and budget. And they engaged Antenna to make the Warthog into a reality and the budget figures ran into the hundreds of thousands. Pat Devereux, chief executive of Antenna, stated that 343 Industries sent him an enormous amount of data for the Warthog. Devereux then took the data to Aria Group; who was responsible for actually building the vehicle. Aria Group is known for building numerous concept vehicles for automakers such as General Motors, Honda and Kia. The company took around six months to build the body to the exact specifications and appearance, including the fake heavy machine gun at the back. Beneath the body lie the chassis, engine and transmission from a Hummer H1. It has a 6.5-litre V8 diesel engine and a four speed automatic gearbox. The Warthog's top speed has been limited to 25 miles per hour (40km/h) and this was done for safety reasons. There are only two differences between the real life and digital versions of the Warthog. The digital Warthog has four wheel steering and this would be too costly for the company to incorporate it into the real life version. The real life version is also around twelve percent smaller than it would have been if the company had made it to a 1:1 scale. Despite this, the 7200lbs (3265kg) Warthog makes almost every other vehicle look small. The Warthog will make appearances at the Electronic Entertainment Expo and ComicCon later this year. Buyers with a huge bank account may possibly buy one as Aria Group is in talks with Microsoft to license the production of the Warthog. Image credit: David Undercoffler / Los Angeles Times

Times are changing for the US military, which now finds itself embroiled in urban combat, for which the standard Humvee is less than ideal. As the U.S. military phases out the Humvee, its maker, AM General, strongly believes that the hardcore off-roader may still have some life left in it. For fans of the Hummer or the actual wartime vehicle that inspired it, now is your chance to own a version of the original High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle or Humvee for short but without an engine. After more than 10 years break from the civilian vehicle market, AM General is considering to offer a kit car based on the C Series Humvee. The kit which is said to conform to US regulations includes a rolling chassis and could start from US$59,000 but builders have to get their own engine and transmission. A starting price of that amount is not too bad and with a suitable engine and transmission fixed, the final price will probably be around US$75,000. Considering the price of a Hummer H1 in 2005 was around US$140,000 before any added options, that US$75,000 price tag is rather reasonable. But, there is a catch. The reason why it is pretty inexpensive is because a kit version will be as stripped as a military version. That means buyers will not get the nice trimming or accessories a normal, civilian version would have. Buyers would likely get a cloth top, cloth doors, no interior trim, no sound deadening and no air-conditioning. But this would not matter much to the hardcore Humvee fans as these fans are pretty much more concerned about the Humvee

Trying to be cheeky here but I guess all future Hummer postings will have be posted in "China Talk" section? [:p] Hummer to be sold to Chinese firm General Motors is to sell its Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery for an undisclosed amount. It is part of GM's plan to reinvent itself by concentrating on fewer brands following Monday's bankruptcy filing. GM says it hopes the deal will save about 3,000 jobs in the US. Hummer will remain based in the US. Tengzhong specialises in making equipment for the road, construction and energy industries. It is based in China's Sichuan province. -bbc news-

Canada's challenge to the Ultimate Armoured SUV, the Conquest Knight XV
Rigval posted a blog entry in MyAutoBlog
You would have never thought that the peaceful people of Canada would never come up with a challenger to the throne for the world's most luxurious armoured SUV vehicle. The Canadian company Conquest has come up with the Knight XV. This originally started life as an all American Ford F550 pick-up truck and Conquest strips it down and builds it up into the fully armoured XV which is intended for extremely wealthy people like, oh the usual, drug lord, rich middle eastern arabs, russian tycoons of the dubious kind, or any paranoid people with deep pockets. The XV has bodywork and glass claimed to be capable to stop even a 7.62mm Druganov Armour Piercing round when specified to full ballistic protection option. If you specify full armour option it can supposedly withstand an assault against it and protect its occupants against bomb blasts (mines, hand grenades and the occasional RPG shot at it). If you spec it with the on-board fire extinguisher and oxygen breathing systems you could survive even longer. With the time limited to the food you have on board and the size of your bladder and intestines (while bigger than a Hummer H2, it still isn't as big as an RV where you can fit a decent sized potty/throne to do your business on). You can have night-vision cameras, dark-tinted armoured glass, run-flat tyres that keep the car mobile even after it's been shot up and an anti-theft device (in case someone tries to nick it). As for the luxury aspect of this 'uber Hummer', six leather-upholstered seats, Wilton carpets, laptops wired in to each of the four rear seats, twin rear screens for TV screens, a cigar humidor, security safe, drinks bar and electrically-operated window curtains. At this rate, if you specify a disco ball, the manufacturers would throw one in for free. The Knight XV is powered by a 400bhp 6.8liter V10 engine and has a fully armoured curb weight of 5,454kg. It is as extreme (or even more) than the Dartz Prombon mentioned earlier and has the same level of handcrafted workmanship put into it. Conquest claims that it spends 1,500hours hand building each vehicle to standards that zillionaires are accustomed to. Prices start at US$489,000 and goes up to almost US$700,000 depending on what options are put into it. But only in left hand drive format as its based on an American SUV. It is also larger than a Hummer H2, hence if you see one on the streets of Singapore (which I doubt), it may destroy cars to its left and right on any of the small roads it treads on. You may catch one or two in Dubai if you go shopping there. As I stated in the article mentioned above about the Dartz, the civilian Hummer may be dead, but the concept lives on. -
[extract] I wrote about the Dartz Prombron earlier, a Russian Hummer-like vehicle that costs a bomb and one that uses exotic whale penis leather for the owners to sit on and feel kinky while doing so. I also mentioned that Hummer shaped vehicles are now dime a dozen and there are look-a-likes from China and Europe. Here is one I saw at a Defense Exhibition held in Kuala Lumpur recently. The Renault Sherpa 2. It looks very

We've all been reading or have heard about that not really important fact that Hummer, the non-military version, is closing its doors for good. The very famous military based SUV used by movie-stars, rap artists as well as people who have a lot of money but little taste is wrapping up all production and will close its doors forever, hopefully. General Motors to date have not found any buyers and as it sold less than a couple of thousand vehicles worldwide last year, they have decided to cut the loss making arm. Those eco-mentalists who despise the Hummer are rejoicing at this fact. But the thing is, there are many Hummer lookalikes out there and these pretenders to the throne are coming out of the woodwork. From Chinese made replicas to Spanish, French made military vehicles we would not really see an end to the Hummer form of design as it still is being adopted everywhere in the world. Maybe that's why Hummer isn't selling strongly as we have cheaper versions coming from all the countries mentioned above. And now from Russia, I bring you the Dartz Prombron. The Dartz Prom..what? It is a 1.6 million Euro monster SUV from Russia that weighs about 3,700kgs. Dartz is a manufacturer in Russia that builds special vehicles for the military and for those Russian billionaires who owns football teams in England and so forth. The company sees itself as a natural successor to those Russian cars made by Russo Baltique that Lenin and Trotsky used when turning Russia into a Communist powerhouse. Somehow I do not feel too enthralled by this marketing fact as the Prombron itself is ridiculously impressive all by its own. The SUV is has sheet metal a couple of centimeters thick and can stop 7.62mm AK47 assault rifle bullets in its track. This is actually good for the military, security paranoid Russian billionaires, Arab billionaires and er, the Russian Mafia? It's no wonder the car weighs like a T72 Main Battle Tank. But this tank can hustle, as it has a 456bhp V8 powering it and a manufacturer stated top speed of 240km/h. The

Although it has been evident for some time that General Motors' sale of its Hummer brand to Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machines Co., Ltd., we didn't expect for word to come down today that the negotiations are dead and the brand will be wound down. Unfortunately, judging by a press release just issued by GM, that's exactly what will be happening. According to John Smith, GM's vice president of corporate planning and alliances, "One year ago, General Motors announced that we were going to divest Hummer, as part of focusing our efforts on Chevrolet, Buick, GMC and Cadillac going forward. We have since considered a number of possibilities for Hummer along the way, and we are disappointed that the deal with Tengzhong could not be completed." As we learned from the Saab sale saga, GM announcing that the brand will be wound down does not completely extinguish hope for another buyer to slip in in the 11th hour, but it does seem highly improbable that a new party will pick up where the negotiations with China's Tengzhong left off. In the statement available after the jump, GM does not specify what killed the planned sale of the brand, but rumors in recent months suggested that the Chinese government was not keen to sign off on the deal. At the moment, it is unclear what will happen to Hummer's H2 and H3/H3T models, but it is likely that the tooling and manufacturing rights will be sold off to other companies. As with the wind-down of its Saturn and Pontiac brands, GM has pledged to honor Hummer warranties and continue to supply service and parts.

It looks like General Motors' deal to sell its Hummer brand to China's Sichuan Tengzhong Heavy Industrial Machinery is on shaky ground. According to Reuters, the likelihood that the Chinese government will give its approval to Tengzhong has been waning in recent weeks, leading the would-be purchasers to consider making the acquisition using an offshore investment vehicle to skirt the need for Chinese regulatory approval. GM and Tengzhong had originally set a January 31st deadline to complete the sale, later extending that time frame to February 28th. The Chinese National Development and Reform Commission and the Ministry of Commerce are thought to have taken issue with the idea of such an environmentally unfriendly automaker coming under Chinese ownership. Further, Tengzhong has never actually made a passenger vehicle, and China already has over 100 companies producing automobiles and the government has gone on record saying it would like to reduce that number. Stay tuned.

Hummer H3T glimpses rugged refinement for midsize market General Motors has issued the following press release: No matter the size or configuration, a vehicle adorned with the HUMMER name must deliver the best-in-class capabilities that have made the brand the standard against which other off-road vehicles are measured. That's certainly the case with the dynamic H3T, a midsize truck that infuses all of HUMMER's military-derived DNA into an efficient, refined package and carves a new niche in the midsize truck market. HUMMER introduced the ruggedly refined H3T concept vehicle at the 2004 Greater Los Angeles Auto Show, providing a glimpse at a growing family of expressive, versatile vehicles. "The H3T concept expresses a vision of the potential of future HUMMER vehicles, targeted at enthusiasts who desire the HUMMER image and capability, but in a smaller, non-SUV configuration," said Clay Dean, design director for small trucks and HUMMER. "It also provides a visual clue to the evolution of HUMMER's design." Innovative features abound in the H3T: The pickup box incorporates side-access doors, along with drop-down assist steps that also double as weather-tight storage compartments. The H3T's unique tailgate forms an unbroken load surface when down, contributing to the H3T's versatility. There's also a large, power-operated folding canvas sunroof and drop-down rear window that combine to offer an open-air driving experience. There wouldn't be a HUMMER badge on the H3T if it didn't have the capability to dive into twisty terrain that would leave lesser 4x4s spinning their wheels. Its wheels-at-the-corners stance, along with 34-inch-tall tires and 11.5 inches of ground clearance, gives the H3T a 51-degree approach angle and a 50-degree departure angle - critical measures on HUMMER's internal "off-road performance metric" of capabilities. And while the H3T delivers on the promise of its familial looks, it does so with a youthful, masculine flair. Riding on a 118.6-inch wheelbase and measuring 74.5 inches wide, the H3T embodies the classic HUMMER proportions - wide stance, low roofline, and wheels at the corners - that have made the H1 and H2 instantly recognizable around the world. And like the H1 truck, the H3T incorporates the cab and bed in a single structure for enhanced strength and an integrated appearance. Design collaboration To complement the H3T's solid structure with a "go anywhere, do anything" aesthetic, GM and Nike designers collaborated on several key aspects of the vehicle's design. The H3T's tires evolved from discussions between GM Design and Nike Design regarding the question of off-road performance footwear influencing off-road performance tires. The result is the innovative ACG TA tire, which addresses multiple traction environments with sand paddles, traction pads and multiple durometers of rubber defined by different-color breakouts. Nike's influence on the interior includes the use of its Sphere material on the H3T's seats. The lightweight material, used by Nike in specialized clothing, can cool or warm the body without mechanical means. It also conveys a technical aesthetic that looks perfectly at home in the H3T. "The Nike collaboration is unique and exciting," said Dean. "It allowed us to share ideas and thoughts, while comparing our design process with a world leader in design innovation. The experience has enhanced the whole H3T project." HUMMER design language The H3T's classic proportions reflect its off-road ability, but also symbolize HUMMER's expressive styling - an American design that says as much about driver freedom as HUMMER's off-road experience. That purposeful appearance is delineated from the HUMMER H1's military roots. "We evolved the HUMMER design language with the H2," said Dean. "But we're continuing that vision and progressing the brand."

Was travelling 130 when suddenly a monster appeared and overtook us. Only managed to see that it was a Hummer before we start to smell its' smoke. That is sure one Fast and Sturdy Monster.... Also witnessed a car going at least 140 before it lost control & banged into the concrete barrier. Impact was so great that the barrier fall off the flyover and landed on the road below, nearly kanna another car.

IF you own an oil well or two or are a financial Master of the Universe on Shenton Way, you are likely to be keeping an eye out for this vehicle from General Motors. The smallest sibling of the Hummer line whose lineage goes back to the war veteran Humvee, the H3 uses a 3.4-litre five-cylinder engine pushing 220 hp. It delivers just one third the gas mileage of the Prius. But then, the Toyota hybrid won't get you places the H3 can. Equipped with four-wheel drive and sitting on 33-inch wheels, the brawny sports utility vehicle can slice through 40cm-high water and clamber up 40-degree inclines with ease. Quite a few macho drivers in their Landcruiser Prados, Mitsubishi Pajeros and Land Rover Discoveries will head straight for the showroom the minute it makes its appearance here, possibly via parallel importers next year. Just like what the 1 series does with the BMW marque, the H3 finally brings the Hummer line within reach of buyers of mid-size SUVs here. But if what I see of these category of vehicles holds true, expect the person behind the H3 steering wheel to be a woman. http://motoring.asiaone.com.sg/articles/O_20041228_001.html
