Hi. I would like to seek some recommendations here for halal food. Cafe style or buffet style both fine. This is because my department regularly organise team lunch/dinner and we are running out of great halal food ideas for our muslim colleagues.Pax size between 4 to 6. Appreciate all suggestions/ideas. If do a quick search google there's too much options and mostly paid ads. Would prefer genuine recommendations. An article published last Wednesday (April 22) by Hong Kong-based outlet Asia Sentinel alleged that the council shows "favouritism" in its recognition of foreign halal certification bodies (FCBs). Asia Sentinel had also alleged that the assistant director of the council's Halal Certification Strategic Unit Munir Hussain is currently being investigated for corruption by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB), based on evidence that it had supposedly provided. When approached about the matter, a CPIB spokesman told The Straits Times on Sunday that it would not confirm or deny if any individuals are being investigated for corruption, due to confidentiality issues. FCBs are organisations Muis deems to have similar standards to its own halal certification system, and whose products imported here are certified as halal, or fit for the consumption of Muslims here. These organisations can earn thousands of dollars monthly by selling exported products to Singapore. In a statement on Saturday, the council said: "While Muis recognises that FCBs operate in different social, religious and legal contexts from Singapore, Muis only recognises those who are able to demonstrate that they adhere to similar standards adopted by Muis, as well as the clearly stipulated terms and conditions for recognition. "This includes organisational governance and competence as well as compatibility in religious standards and guidelines." It added that Muis manages the process of halal certification here to the highest standards of governance, and that its processes are aligned with international standards. The council received the ISO 17065 certification for entities certifying products, processes and services from the International Organisation for Standardisation two years ago. Asia Sentinel alleged that Mr Munir had caused Muis' delisting of a certifying body in Australia as an FCB. It did not specify how this was done. The article, which has been reproduced on other outlets like news site Halal Focus, also said that Mr Munir had interfered with and undermined the Australian body's attempt to be re-certified as an FCB. This was supposedly done by actions like divulging its sensitive information to a competitor, and forcing it to hire certain staff members. Muis said that key decisions on halal certification are not made by one person, but by an independent panel. ST understands that this panel is made up of internal members of Muis management who are not involved in any stages of processing the application for halal certification, and that the halal unit collates information and makes recommendations. In its statement on Saturday, the council said that there are currently 74 Muis-certified FCBs, and Muis has removed the FCB recognition status of 10 organisations which did not meet its requirements over the last 10 years. FCBs must have an adequate halal management process as well as a competent legal Islamic advisory board which is responsible for religious advice in halal certification, added the council. Muis said that the allegations made against it are "extremely serious" and it is currently investigating the issue. It is also considering taking action against the publishers of the article. The council encouraged members of the public not to circulate unverified claims, and that they should approach the proper authorities if they have any doubts.

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia’s first and only astronaut to date, Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor announced yesterday (Jan 27) his venture into e-commerce with the Aladdin Group of Companies, which he believes can be a halal rival to Internet business giants Amazon and Alibaba. Dr Sheikh Muszaphar is the co-founder for Aladdin, which will be based in 30 countries, with the headquarters in Kuala Lumpur. It would select merchants which are either halal certified by the Islamic Development Department of Malaysia (Jakim) or those who comply with the Shariah guidelines to market on its site. Launched by former Prime Minister Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday, Aladdin could end up costing closer to US$100 million (S$143 million) over the next three years for all its operations and marketing in 30 countries. The headquarters and the domestic site, which starts operations today, had cost US$5 million. “What we aim to achieve is to compete with the likes of Amazon and Alibaba, and maybe even be bigger than them one day. Aladdin represents an opportunity for young entrepreneurs to gain halal certification and immediately gain access to 30 markets globally,” Dr Sheikh Muszaphar said during the launch at Aladdin’s headquarters here. He also said that the global demand for halal products was growing and that Muslim consumers would now have an avenue where they can “feel safe and assured” while purchasing products. “But, we would also like it to appeal to non-Muslims. Because halal is not about religion alone, it is also about ethics and hygiene,” he said further. The website, Aladdin Street, brands itself as the “world’s first exclusive premium halal e-marketplace.” Among the major markets it would expand to over the next three years includes Indonesia, India, China, the Middle East, and parts of Europe. Azizi Meor Ngah, a well known corporate figure who is also on the board of the Halal Industry Development Corporation (HDC), will serve as executive director for Aladdin’s operations. Anyone has any recommendations for a good place to bring on a date? Cant really think of any tht is halal. Would appreciate any suggestions.

I have many muslim friends and colleagues and very often we go to halal foodcourt for lunch. i notice most of the chinese food stalls have a chinese cook and a malay helper. she is probably there to ensure its all halal?? this one i dunno. but the food that comes out is no where as tasty as a normal chinese food court. the carrot cake, hor fun, economy rice all not nice. since the cook is chinese, the only difference is pork? so does pork really make food alot more tasty?

heehee.. as per title, any nice halal buffet lunch for less than $40/pax.. I am not looking at * seoul garden * tiffany cafe * sakura international... still got where?

Hi guys, I did not see this tread yet (hopefully I'm correct) so I decided to start this topic. As above, any places you guys know of out there in Singapore? For restaurants, *examples are Rex Mckenzie, Chai Chee Seafood Restaurant, Bottle Tree village(the inside and not the outside one, closest to Sembawang Park) & etc. For normal hawker centres/coffee shops, *examples are Bedok Corner, Simpang, Tong Seng & etc. Can include more details of the place (ie. Ambience, price, location, famous dish & etc.)? *from what I've experienced Thanks for sharing bros and sis!

Was reading the ST this morning when I come across the biodiesel section, one of the driver commented he gave up pumping biodiesel as he cannot confirm the cooking oil from the biodiesel comes from halal restaurant or not. I was like , even my muslim colleague slam this driver as not understanding the islam religion enough.

hi bros out there.i'm planning to bring my family for a seafood dinner at JB area.so far i've only tried Singgah Selalu, near de danga bay.but now de place sucks.price went up n quality went down.so tot of going elsewhere. anyone knows of any gd n not so ex place?...
