Hi all, I've noticed that different petrol (similiar grade) caused the fuel guage to have different fuel consumption pattern. For example, 1) Shell 95; fuel level dropped fastest between 1/2 and 1/4 mark. Earlier from Full to 1/2 mark the drop is rather slowly. 2) Mobil 95; fuel level dropped fastest between 3/4 and 1/2 mark. Later the drop will be more gradual and evenly. 3) SPC 95; the level drop fastest around 1/2 mark, the rest rather constantly. 4) Caltex...have not tried it yet. Although I've experienced different fuel consumption pattern as witness from the fuel guage, but overall fuel consumption among the various brand is almost the same, minimal difference. Meaning; a full tank of Shell, or Mobil or SPC will given me around the same mileage travelled until the fuel guage empty light comes on. This difference in fuel consumption pattern (as observed from fuel guage) is repeatable, meaning its not a one time observation, whenever I use that particular brand the pattern appear again. Also travelling distance, timing and route is same, but its just that different petrol brand caused the fuel guage to give different reading (or different consumption rate?). Its not about the fuel tank profile/shape either, otherwise different brand will still give the same FC pattern, right? I've check with one of my colleague, and he had observed the same findings... So, just curious, have you noticed any difference in your fuel guage consumption reading when using different brand?

I'm getting a used car soon. Can any1 teach me how to check if the fuel gauge of the car has been tampered? I don't wanna to go JB and get caught by Singapore immigration for this issue.

so much talk about tampered fuel gauge... haiz.... anyone knows of anyone who kanna caught? wats the consequences? ONLY 'consequences' discussions pls. i heard from a frd's frd his dad went in JB 4 times in a day to buy petrol and came back to pump out into containers..., on the 5th time kanna caught the fine was in Thousands... according to him lah... but if true how the hell you pump out petrol unless very old car model if not fuel tank design how to pump out? and imagine how many containers to fill sia., for 4-5 full tanks... siao

I've just DIY instaleld my Boost Guage and is tapped onto the Fuel Pressure Regulator line. Everything worked fine, except one repeatable problem. When the engine is started from cold, the guage worked perfectly. However, when the engine is shutted down and started while hot, the boost guage register "0" !!! It stays at "0" for ~30sec to 1min then jumped to life ! It is repeatable which make me rule out a faulty guage. One possibility is that the fuel pressure regulator probably has a valve that shuts the vacuum from the hose when engine is started hot .... it then has something that gotta do with the injectors right ? Should I tap another line instead?

Hi bro, Just need to check with you guys about the brake indicator on the meter guage. I know that it will light up when hand brake is being put up and goes off when the hand brake is being release. How about when we step on the foot brake? Does it light up too? Mine sure doesn't. Can anyone help to confirm this?

Hi Everyone! I've been following most of the threads here tho i've never posted as yet. Am driving a Silver Optra. Reg - Nov 03. Great car to drive so far....till now.... would like to check with all the Optra drivers out there. I've experienced an intermittent problem of fluctuating fuel gauge since getting the car, once in Feb, May & in the last 2 days. Called up SA this morning & found out from their guy that apparently this was a problem reported by a few other Optras. In Feb when I brought this to their attention, they had no idea what was happening. Now they tell me its happening to other drivers too. They're now waiting for response from Chevy HQ. BTW, they changed my fuel pump 2 weeks ago after I reported my 2nd fluctuation. However this did not solve the problem. Anyone else facing the same issue?

Lately, i found that my cooling water temperature gauge needle could not reach the middle position. It is sticking at the low end of the gauge and it does moves. I have checked the wirings and found all to be ok. Do not know if this is related to the quality of the coolant. The car has done about 10,000 km since I took over in May 04. Thank you

Hi, anyone out there know of any after market fuel guage? Well my sis is currently driving a Perodua Kembara and the problem is that the stock fuel guage does not have a light indicating fuel low. The advice from the manual is to top up at 3/4 tank. I find this very lame. Now when she drives she is always very conscious of fuel level. This can cause a nervous breakdown over time . regards Kooster
