Hi folks, Just bought a Garmin 50LM at Sitex and like to ask the following questions: 1) Do I need to do an initial charge? The staff (looks like part timer) doesn't seem sure when I asked... 2) If I wan to charge using adapter what volts should I use? I wouldn't be in the car long enough to charge it using the supplied car charger.. 3) As I was using another brand last time, how do I search for malaysia locations? I tired keying hatten malacca / Melaka but nothing was found.. My previous Marbella GPS will be able to find when I key in Appreciate your response in advance!

Hiadees, little Beng here is using Garmin Nuvi 50LM. Was updating the maps on the GPS for the first time and managed to successfully update the Malfree and Malsing maps which are the NT 2014.20 versions. Ok now the problem. There is a 3rd map to update which is called the City Navigator Singapore/Malaysia NT 2014.20 (my current version is only NT 2012.20, so is outdated by 2 years). I also have the updated version of the Garmin Communicator Plugin( or GCP in short) which is required to download this 3rd map, as per the online instructions - ver 4.2.0.0 OK now what do I do next. I don't see any link/button etc to click on to download the new map. The GPS is connected to my Laptop which surfing on the Garmin website. Am I missing something? hope hiadees who have experience can help.

Garmin has released the new Nuvi 2567LM. I'm currently using Nuvi 2565, planning to get another GPS as a backup, but can't decide between Nuvi 2565 or 2567? Here are the pro and cons for the above two models Nuvi 2565LM Pro ---- - Can share the car suction mount cradle holder with my older Nuvi 2565LM, ie. got spare cradle as a backup incase the other cradle breaks. Con ----- - Not Sure. Nuvi 2567LM Pro ---- - Got this "Up Ahead" feature. Up Ahead is a constant stream of nearby services information – including restaurants, stores, hospitals and fuel stations – that appears alongside your map and updates as you move along your route. May be a good feature to have. - Smartphone Link on weather forcast but don't think this feature is important for me because can easily get the same info from our phone. Con ---- - can't share the suction cradle with Nuvi 2565, so no spare cradle for backup.

Garmin has introduced the company's first portable head-up display (HUD) for smartphone navigation apps. It projects directions onto a transparent film on the windshield or an attached reflector lens. By providing road guidance within the driver's line of sight, HUD helps to improve safety and reduce driver distraction. "Head-up displays currently have their place in select high end cars, but HUD makes this technology available as an aftermarket accessory for any vehicle, at an affordable price," said Dan Bartel, Garmin Vice President of Worldwide Sales. The HUD is smart enough to adjust the brightness level to ensure that projections are clearly visible in direct sunlight or at night. The system also notifies the driver when he exceeds the speed limit and informs him of the estimated time of arrival. More impressively, it also alerts the driver of the lane to be in for the next manoeuvre. Music streamed to the car stereo from the smartphone will automatically fade out during voice prompts. Garmin's HUD is priced from US$129.99 (S$166).
