  1. I would like to compare the abovementioned models. 1) Pricing 2) FC 3) Handling 4) Size 5) Appearance 6) Maintenance Cost like spare parts. I like both the car design especially Opel Astra 1.6 Twinport. Was considering of Toyota Altis and my friend strongly reccomend on Ford Focus in terms of handling. The pricing is higher than Altis if I'm not wrong. But how much higher? Astra got all the cost rebate, free insurance, etc. So in the end not sure of the selling price. Too confused. Can anyone enlightened me on the pricing as well as commend on the cars. Thks alot.

Ford is calling the 2019 Focus their most “accomplished and technically-competent Focus ever”, with the car boasting a new human-centric design philosophy meant to unite exterior styling with class-leading aerodynamics and a more spacious and well-built interior. “We wanted our all-new Focus to be a product customers fall in love with, and stay in love with,” said Ford Europe design director, Amko Leenarts. “Inside and out, our new design philosophy is about creating memorable moments of interaction that build and maintain the relationship between human being and machine.” By extending the wheelbase a full 53 mm, designers managed to position the wheels higher up into the sheet metal, thus reducing the perception of overall length and mass. Add the short overhangs and rearward cabin position and you end up with a dynamic-looking hatchback, one that is said to deliver “class-leading aerodynamic efficiency”. As for styling, even though Ford went with a recognizable front fascia, the rest of the car looks significantly different than the outgoing model, regardless of version. The all-new Focus can be ordered as a Vignale, ST-Line, Active and Titanium, in either 5-door or Estate form. The Vignale was given elegant ornamentation such as the satin aluminum finishes for the roof rails, fascia and rocker inserts, as well as a signature grille mesh. The ST-Line on the other hand looks more aggressive with its large diffuser and functional roof spoiler – it also comes with signature lower wing elements. Customers will be able to order their new Focus in one of 13 exterior colors, including Orange Glow, Desert Island Blue and the Vignale-exclusive four-coat dark Mulberry. The all-new Focus features a wide range of advanced technologies, among them Level 2 automation and several systems meant to make driving the car a more comfortable and less demanding experience. For example, Ford Co-Pilot360 technologies enhance safety, driving and parking, while ACC with Stop & Go, Speed Sign Recognition and Lane-Centring will make long journeys less stressful. The ACC works at speeds of up to 200 km/h (125 mph). Then there’s the Adaptive Front Lighting System with Predictive curve light and Sign-based light. This tech pre-adjusts headlight patterns for maximum visibility before reaching a curve, intersection or roundabout. The new Focus is also the first Ford vehicle in Europe to feature a Head-up display (HUD). Other active safety features includes: Active Park Assist 2, Park-out Assist, Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Evasive Steering Assist, Blind Spot Information System with Cross Traffic Alert, Rear wide-view camera, Wrong Way Alert, Ford MyKey and Post-Collision Braking. Ford expects the all-new Focus to earn a 5-star safety rating during crash tests. They’re basing their expectations, in part, on the 40% increase in front crash load capability coming from the new C2 platform. Focus owners can choose between Ford EcoBoost petrol and EcoBlue diesel engines, said to meet the latest Euro 6 emissions standards. They can be mated either to six-speed manual transmissions or a new eight-speed automatic. Opt for petrol and you’ll find yourself having to choose between a 1.0-liter EcoBoost (107g/km CO2) or a new 1.5-liter EcoBoost (122 g/km CO2). While the former is offered with 85 PS (83 HP), 100 PS (98 HP) and 125 PS (123 HP), the latter is more punchy at either 150 PS (148 HP) or 182 PS (179 HP). The diesel options are as follows: new 1.5-liter EcoBlue (91 g/km CO2) with either 95 PS (93 HP) or 120 PS (118 HP) – both offering 300 Nm (221 lb-ft) of torque, and a 2.0-liter EcoBlue (112 g/km CO2) good for 150 PS (148 HP) and 370 Nm (273 lb-ft) of torque. Ultimately, it’s only the 125 PS 1.0-liter EcoBoost, 150 PS 1.5-liter EcoBoost, 120 PS 1.5-liter EcoBlue and 150 PS 2.0-liter EcoBlue units that can be mated to Ford’s new 8-speed automatic.   5. It has been a while since the Ford Focus got its global launch. Enthusiasts are eagerly waiting for the go-faster version of the hatch to surface. Interestly, several pictures of the hot hatch surfaced on a private forum. Looking less aggressive and sleeker than its predecessor, the 2019 Focus ST still features a prominent honeycomb mesh grill at the front. Other than a new front and rear bumper, the car also gets new side skirts and gloss black door handles. Inferring from the photos that we saw from Carscoops, one can see an uprated high-performance braking system with red calipers and new wheels. Moving inside, one of the more obvious changes compared to the normal hatch is the hugging Recaro sport seats with ST badge and a leather-wrapped steering wheel with white contrast stitching. Powertrain wise, nothing has been confirmed but the car is likely to use a 2.3-litre EcoBoost four cylinder that should output more than 247bhp in the last ST. There is also no word on when the car will be launched in 2019.

  10. Hi People, I went for the Focus group discussion at LTA yesterday and below are my general comments. 1) We met up with the directors and assistant directors of LTA. The directors are ok but the assistant directors looked really young... is assistant director at LTA an entry level job? Frankly, initial impression is not too good, but this is just my personal opinon. 2) We touched on the dealer COE bidding issue. One of the directors said that currently, consumer has a choice of bidding for themselves and going through the dealer so it is ok. When we mentioned that the car price is higher if we bid COE ourselves, he was surprised. He thought the car price will be lower if we bid ourselves since the dealers does not have to provide the COE bidding service for us. I was shocked how DISCONNECTED the director of LTA is with the situation on the ground. Or am I wrong since it was sometime since I bought my car. Is it still true that car price from the dealer will be significantly higher one bidded for the COE oneself? 3) On the other hand, I applaud the sincerity of the LTA in orgainising this and having their directors talking to the public. I have went to the talk by MND on housing issue and it is a HUGE waste of time. The MND staff there are basically MUTES. They have no OPINONS and just say yes, we will consider it. At MND, it is just public talking to public and they invited every tom dick and harry who signed up. So you ended up listening to really stupid things. LTA's discussion is different as they selected participants based on the survey feedback so you get mostly people who have a pretty good grasp on the situation. The LTA staff are participating actively in the discussion. Although some of the replies are shocking, overall they are MUCH MUCH better than the mutes from MND. Some guy had a pretty good suggestion for COE revamp. Instead of cat A and cat B to differentiate luxury and mas market cars, we should only have one Cat. The COE price will be a multiple of the car "value" set by LTA using a transparent formula (average MSRP of the car in other markets). People bid by points. Assuming a base points of 100. Example, if the winning bid for COE this month is 120 points, a ferarri buyer needs to pay like $500k (LTA determined car value) *120/100=$600k, a Nissan Sunny buyer needs to pay $40k*120/100=$48k This I thought is really good. If LTA thinks that there should be some form of social equity (that is why there is cat A, B in the first place) setting a HARD limit like 1600CC is very hard to do. How do you set the two cats? Why is 1601 CC in catb while 1599 CC is cat A? I think the above suggestion can make luxury car buyers pay more and yet avoid this Categorizing issue. what do you guys think?

It didn't say exactly how much that would come to, but now it has. On the eve of its dynamic debut at the hands of Ken Block at the Goodwood Festival of Speed, Ford has confirmed that its new hot hatch will pack 350 metric horsepower. Those reaching for their calculators will find that works out to 345 horsepower by our standards. The power output is backed up by 324 pound-feet of torque, capable of being boosted up to 347 for up to fifteen seconds at a time. Those figures come from a retuned version of the same 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbo four as the one available in the Mustang, but produces over ten percent more power thanks to a new turbocharger, upgraded intake and exhaust, and a larger radiator. All that muscle will be channeled to all four wheels through Ford Performance's new all-wheel drive system with dynamic torque vectoring, launch control, and selectable drive modes, including a Drift Mode that (as you can see from the video below) allows the hot hatch to get more than a little sideways. Ford still isn't saying what those specs will translate to in terms of measurable performance figures, but as far as output goes, things are looking pretty good. The 30th Ford RS model already packs more power and torque than the new Honda Civic Type R (306 hp, 295 lb-ft), Volkswagen Golf R (292 hp, 280 lb-ft), Subaru WRX STI (305 hp, 290 lb-ft) or the Nürburgring-conquering Renault Mégane 275 Trophy-R (271 hp, 266 lb-ft) and Seat Leon Cupra (276 hp, 258 lb-ft). It even respectably holds its own against the more upscale BMW M235i (320 hp, 330 lb-ft), Mercedes A45/CLA45 AMG (355 hp, 332 lb-ft), and Audi RS3 (362 hp, 343 lb-ft). Whether it'll outshine them all in real-world conditions remains to be seen, but we're looking forward to finding out whenever Ford deems fit to drops those performance stats on us.

Christian charity defends workshop which Hwa Chong student called 'sexist' A Christian charity that conducts sexuality and relationship education workshops in schools has defended its programmes, after a student said it promoted gender stereotypes. Student Agatha Tan, a first year junior college student at Hwa Chong Institution, had on Friday attended a workshop in school, run by Focus On The Family Singapore, a pro-family Christian charity. She has written to HCI principal Hon Chiew Weng saying that the workshop "seemed to emphasise and enforce traditional gender roles in a relationship". She referred to a booklet given to students, which said girls need to feel loved, can be emotional and have a "deep need for her boyfriend to find her beautiful". The booklet also said boys are "visual", and that a "guy can't not want to look", and they have a desire to "visually linger on and fantasise about the female body". Don't understand this new rule, that the HDB selling price to be based on recent transaction price instead of COV? do they mean that the HDB price will be based on bank valuation only??? ----------- To improve the long-term stability of the public housing market and encourage buyers and sellers to focus on the sum total of a flat's price, price negotiations for HDB resale flats will now be based on recent transaction prices instead of Cash-Over-Valuation (COV) figures. This according to an MND facebook post summarising National Development Minister Khaw Boon Wan’s speech in Parliament this afternoon. As of 5pm today, HDB will only accept valuation requests from resale flat buyers or their appointed salesperson, after buyers have been granted an Option to Purchase (OTP) by the sellers. Under the new rules, buyers who are granted OTP will have 21 calendar days, instead of 14 days to exercise the OTP to adjust to the new procedure. In addition, HDB will publish daily prices of resale transactions as and when they are registered, instead of fortnightly after the transactions are approved. Responding, Mohamed Ismail, CEO of PropNex Realty, said: “Using valuation and negotiating based on COVs has been a long-standing practice for the sale and purchase of HDB resale flats. With this revised procedure, the possible impact of allowing valuation only after the OTP is granted, will expose HDB home buyers to a higher vulnerability of a greater cash outlay if there is any gap between the agreed price and the valuation price. Buyers will become more cautious in their offer price as they enter into a purchase without an indication of how much the property is worth. In comparison, for the purchase of a private property, buyers do get an indicative valuation from the banker before entering into an option and in most instances, banks do honour the valuation based on indicative prices given. “This new procedure will take some time to adjust as the market moves away from the use of COV as the yardstick in negotiations. In those estates where the COVs are still holding high, especially in central locations like Redhill, Bishan or Toa Payoh, buyers and sellers are likely to continue to rely on the valuation of other sources for their price negotiations as such information are still going to be made available by property portals and other platforms,” added Ismail. He noted that HDB resale prices are expected to drop further as potential buyers take a cautious approach in their negotiations before they ink the OTP. For the first time after an eight year period, HDB resale prices saw negative growth of 0.6 percent in 2013.   18. Ford's 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has won the "International Engine of the Year" award for the second consecutive year. Not only that, the turbocharged, direct-injection three-cylinder engine achieved the highest score in the 15 year history of the awards. "With a technology as mature as the internal combustion engine, it's very rare to achieve a true breakthrough, but that is exactly what the team accomplished with this engine," said Joe Bakaj, Ford Vice President, Global Powertrain. "You have to drive it to believe a small three-cylinder engine can deliver such performance and fuel economy." A panel of 87 automotive journalists from 35 countries around the world judged the awardees based on drivability, performance, economy, refinement and the successful application of advanced engine technology. The 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine is currently offered in cars such as Fiesta, B-MAX and the Focus. In the near future, it will also power larger cars including the new Ford Mondeo.   20. Ford has resuscitated the Escort name plate at the 2013 Shanghai Motor Show with the launch of the Escort concept. The badge was previously used on a variety of small cars in different continents. Designed specifically for the Chinese market, the concept previews a potential low cost alternative to the Focus. To clarify, the Escort isn't designed to replace the Focus in China but would be sold alongside with it. Design wise, the Escort Concept seems like the result of a one night stand between the Ford Fusion and the Focus. The Blue Oval's signature 'Aston Martin' hexagonal grille and LED headlights dominate the front fascia. The overall design looks quite production ready. Ford hinted that the Escort is longer than the Focus sedan, which means that buyers will get more metal for less money. "By listening to our customers in China, we have developed the Ford Escort Concept to serve a new class of compact car customers," said Ford's Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Sales and Service. "These are customers whose needs are not being completely met by existing compact cars. They are discerning, modern families, who want uncompromised functionality, quality and safety for themselves and the ones they care about," he added. No engine/transmission details on the new Escort are available at the moment.

Competitors have to swim 1.5 kilometres in the sea and run 10 kilometres. The event was organised by SAFRA and the Republic of Singapore Navy. SAFRA said in response to queries from MediaCorp on Thursday that it will review plans on the event in future. For now, it will focus on its membership initiatives, as part of NS45 to recognise the contributions of NSmen. As for the navy, it has pulled out as an organiser due to increased operational commitments. For many endurance-sports enthusiasts, the Singapore Biathlon sets the pace of their race year as it is usually the first race of the year. One of Singapore's oldest endurance sportsmen, Chan Chan Seng, is disappointed with the decision. Mr Chan, who's 72, had been competing since his 50s. "I'm very sad because I've been doing this for the past 10 years, since they started until last year. Actually, sometimes, it's a meeting place for old friends - so many healthy strong men, from young to old, women, kids, also.
