  1. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/married-father-7-claims-fired-143000171.html A former Google executive says he has been fired after he rejected advances from a senior female member of staff, the male executive claims in a lawsuit. Ryan Olohan said he was groped by Tiffany Miller at an upmarket Manhattan restaurant in December 2019, alleging that she told him she knew he liked Asian women, which she is, and that her marriage lacked “spice.” Miller, who is the director of Google’s programmatic media, allegedly complemented Olohan’s physique and touched his torso while they were at Fig & Olive during a company get-together, per a report by the New York Post. Olohan, a married father of seven, claims he was promoted to managing director of food, beverages, and restaurants and joined a team that included Miller. The former exec said he was wary of bringing up the incident to his colleagues at first because several of them were drunk at the time—and when he did, they dismissed Miller’s advances as “Tiffany being Tiffany,” according to the lawsuit, filed on Nov. 30. Olohan, 48, then took his concerns to human resources, which did not take any action. The lawsuit stated that a representative from the department “openly admitted…that if the complaint was ‘in reverse’—a female accusing a white male of harassment—the complaint would certainly be escalated.” Instead, Olohan claims, Miller retaliated following his complaint and reported him to HR for unspecified “microaggressions.” A representative for Miller denied denied his allegations in a statement to Fortune. “This lawsuit is a fictional account of events filled with numerous falsehoods, fabricated by a disgruntled ex-employee, who was senior to Ms. Miller at Google. Ms. Miller never made any 'advance' toward Mr. Olohan, which witnesses can readily corroborate. Even more disturbing is the overt sexism and racism in Mr. Olohan‘s efforts to blame others for his termination.” Repeated harassment Two years after the first incident, Miller allegedly reprimanded Olohan while drunk at a Google event in December 2021—a situation that escalated to the extent that colleagues recommended she sit at the other end of the table. Miller did apologize, the lawsuit states, but “although Google was aware that Miller’s continued harassment of Olohan stemmed from his rejection of her sexual advances, it again took no action.” A further incident occurred in April 2022 during a company social event at a karaoke bar, when Miller once again verbally attacked Olohan while drunk, mocking him and reiterating that she knew he had a preference for Asian women with the prior knowledge that his wife is Asian. Olohan said he felt increasingly under pressure; his supervisor told him there were “obviously too many white guys” on his management team and in July he was allegedly encouraged to fire a male employee so he could be replaced by a woman. Olohan was then fired by Google in August, after he’d spent 16 years at the company, for not being “inclusive.” He claims that Google’s Employee Investigations Team said he’d expressed favoritism toward high-performing employees, and that he was “ableist” because he’d made comments on colleagues’ “walking pace.” The lawsuit accuses both Google and Miller of discrimination, retaliation, and fostering a hostile work environment.

From CNA: http://www.channelnewsasia.com/stories/afp...1236178/1/.html Iranian jets fired on US drone in Gulf: Pentagon Posted: 09 November 2012 0703 hrs WASHINGTON: Two Iranian fighter jets fired on an unarmed US Predator drone in the Gulf last week but the aircraft was not hit, the Pentagon said Thursday, warning that the United States stood ready to protect its forces in the region. The incident occurred on November 1 -- less than a week before America's presidential election -- but the Pentagon kept it quiet until now. "They intercepted the aircraft and fired multiple rounds," spokesman George Little told a news conference. The SU-25 Frogfoot fighters, much faster than the slow-moving turboprop drone, fired at least twice and made two passes, he said. It was possible the Iranians intended to warn off the drone but Little said: "Our working assumption is that they fired to take it down." The confrontation threatened to derail diplomatic efforts to defuse a mounting crisis over Tehran's nuclear program, raising the risk of a potential conflict amid a shadow war of cyberattacks, bombings and assassinations. Tough new sanctions led by Washington are squeezing Iran's economy while the United States and Israel are accused of staging cyber sabotage on Tehran's uranium enrichment plants. The US military drone was "never in Iranian air space" and came under fire from Su-25 fighters off the Iranian coast over international waters, Little said. The robotic Predator aircraft was conducting "routine surveillance" and the United States has told Iran it has no plans to suspend the flights, he said. "The United States has communicated to the Iranians that we will continue to conduct surveillance flights over international waters over the Arabian Gulf consistent with longstanding practice and our commitment to the security of the region," he said. In a warning to Tehran, the Pentagon spokesman said the United States was prepared to safeguard its forces. "We have a wide range of options, from diplomatic to military, to protect our military assets and our forces in the region and will do so when necessary," Little said. The MQ-1 drone was pursued further by the Iranian warplanes but was not fired on again, he said. The Predator returned safely to an unspecified military base in the region following the incident that occurred at 4:50 am US eastern standard time (0850 GMT). The Predator was intercepted about 16 nautical miles off the Iranian coast, beyond the Islamic Republic's territorial waters that extend 12 nautical miles off the country's shore. Iranian military speedboats have sometimes swarmed US warships in the Gulf and the strategic Strait of Hormuz, a vital waterway for the world's oil, but the incident last week was the first involving an American drone in a confrontation with Iranian aircraft, officials said. Tensions over Iran's nuclear ambitions prompted the United States to bolster its military presence around the Gulf over the past year, deploying two aircraft carrier battle groups in the area at all times, a squadron of stealthy F-22 fighters to the United Arab Emirates and more minesweeper ships. With America's drawn out election campaign finally over, analysts had predicted President Barack Obama might have more leeway to pursue diplomacy with Iran. But the encounter with the Iranian fighter jets could complicate any attempt for a deal. A new round of talks between Iran and six world powers, the first since June, is expected by the end of the year or in early 2013. Iran insists its nuclear program is peaceful and has made clear any deal with the major powers has to offer relief from crippling sanctions. At the State Department, officials on Thursday unveiled yet more sanctions on Iran, targeting the communications minister and the culture ministry among others for censoring the media and the Internet. The move against Communications Minister Reza Taghipour came after he was blamed for ordering the jamming of international satellite TV broadcasts and restricting Internet access, a State Department official said. The United States is determined to stop the "Iranian government from creating an 'electronic curtain' to cut Iranian citizens off from the rest of the world," said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. -AFP/ac

  16. In China at least the Director of Railway has to be accountable. Can The Director say he didnt have a hand in the driver speeding the train? Can he say he didnt lay the railway tracks? Can he say he didnt make the derailed coaches? At least someone other than the tea lady is held accountable here. Ok I know I know, lets move on, forgive and forget. If other people makes mistakes will they be so magnanimous and forgiving and forgetting? At least 70 people have been killed and 400 injured, many of them seriously, after two trains collided at dawn in eastern China, state media have said. A train travelling from Beijing to the summer resort of Qingdao derailed and hit the other, which was going from Yantai to Xuzhou. Nine coaches of the Qingdao-bound train toppled into a ditch after the crash, outside Zibo city in Shandong province. Just hours after the crash, an inquiry concluded it was caused by human error. Two senior railway officials have already been sacked, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency. The crash is the second major railway incident in Shandong this year. In January, 18 people died near the city of Anqiu when a high-speed train from Beijing hit a group of track-maintenance workers. Rescue operation Monday's crash is the worst in China since 1997, when 126 people were killed when two trains collided in central Hunan province. It happened at 0443 local time (2043 GMT on Sunday) at a bend in the tracks in the suburbs of Zibo, about 70km (43 miles) east of the provincial capital Jinan. Both of the passenger trains are likely to have been operating at high speed at the time of the accident, railway workers said. It is not clear what caused the first train to derail and its carriages to topple into a ditch. The second was also derailed, but remained upright. Witnesses said many passengers climbed out of the wreckage and wrapped themselves in bed sheets from the sleeper cars to protect against the early morning chill. One passenger who escaped through a hole in a carriage with her 13-year-old daughter said she had been sleeping when the accident occurred. "I suddenly woke up when I felt the train stopped with a jolt. In a minute or two it started off again, but soon toppled," she told Xinhua. At least 70 of those injured in the crash were in a critical condition in hospital, Xinhua said. Four French nationals have been hospitalised with bone fractures. Dozens are receiving treatment at the Zhoucun village People's Hospital, one of several involved in the rescue work, it added. "Most are slight cases and more people are being sent in every hour," a hospital worker told Xinhua over the telephone. "Some of our medical workers have gone out for rescue work, too." Railways Minister Liu Zhijun has arrived at the scene to oversee the rescue effort, while Vice Premier Zhang Dejiang is also en route to assist, Xinhua said. The city government of Zibo has sent a 1,500-member team to help and console the victims' families, the state-run agency reported.
  17. WASHINGTON (Reuters) - A cargo ship contracted by the U.S Military Sealift Command has fired at least one shot toward an Iranian boat, a U.S. defense official said on Friday. "It was an MSC vessel," the official said, confirming the ship fired on an Iranian boat. Other details were not immediately available. A spokeswoman for the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain did not have any immediate comment. The United States in January said Iranian boats threatened its warships on January 6 along a vital route for crude oil shipments.
