  2. Filipino businesswoman dies after multiple cosmetic surgeries in one session An attractive 29-year-old Filipino businesswoman, who underwent multiple plastic surgeries in one go, died after the procedures on Sunday (March 26). The Philippine Star reported that Shiryl Saturnino went under the knife for breast and butt enhancement as well as liposuction at a clinic in Mandaluyong City, east of Manila. The series of procedures began after her arrival at the clinic at 5pm on Saturday and ended only at 2.40am the next day. After the operation, the doctors discovered that Saturnino's heart had stopped beating. After attempts to revive her failed, the doctors sought the assistance of Makati Medical Center. But it was too late - she was declared dead at around 3.21am. Authorities are awaiting autopsy results to determine the cause of death and will investigate whether there was negligence by the doctors during the operation, reported Kami.com The legal counsel of Icon Clinic told Inquirer.net in a statement that Saturnino was a "valued and regular patient whom we took care of for many years". "Right now, there is an ongoing investigation on what really caused the passing of Ms. Saturnino. It is our responsibility to inform the public about the truth and we are fully cooperating with the investigation," said lawyer Estelita Cordero. The clinic said it is "extending full support" to her family in their time of grief. However, it will remain "fully operational" while helping in investigation. Meanwhile news of her untimely death has set social media abuzz, sparking debate on the obsession with looking good and whether there was negligence. As netizens expressed their condolences, some also had spiritual reminders. "Beauty is not a passport" to heaven, said one of them. Over in America, authorities are also investigating the death of a 25-year-old Missouri woman who died after undergoing a cosmetic procedure known as a Brazilian butt lift at a Miami-area clinic. The death of Ranika Hall, a mother of a one-year-old daughter from Kansas City, last Thursday (March 20) came nearly a year after a 29-year-old mother of two died following a similar procedure at the same clinic, which at that time was known by a different name, reported CBS News. http://www.asiaone.com/asia/filipino-businesswoman-dies-after-multiple-cosmetic-surgeries-one-session
  3. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/courts-crime/story/filipino-ex-nurse-charged-sedition-and-giving-false-info-the-polic INGAPORE - The nurse who allegedly made anti-Singaporean comments on Facebook was charged on Tuesday with sedition and giving false information to the police. Filipino Ed Mundsel Bello Ello, who was sacked by Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH), faces two charges of publishing a seditious comment on his Facebook account and three of lying to the police. The 28-year-old allegedly said Singaporeans are "loosers" (sic) and vowed to "evict" them from their country and prayed that "disators" (disasters) strike Singapore and then he would celebrate. He ended by saying that "Pinoy better and stronger than Stinkaporeans" in his Jan 2 post. He also allegedly commented in another post that evening that he would "kick out all Singaporeans and SG will be the new filipno state". The charges, under the Sedition Act, say the publications have the tendency to promote feelings of ill-will and hostility between Singaporeans and Filipinos in Singapore. Ello is accused of lying to the police at Chong Pang Neighbourhood Police Post the next day that he did not post the comments on Facebook. On Jan 4, he is said to have lied to a senior officer at at Ang Mo Kio Police Division headquarters that he did not post those comments and that his Facebook account had been hacked. The last charge accuses him of giving false information to the same officer on Jan 5. Ello, who was not represented, told the court he would be engaging a lawyer. Bail of $10,000 was offered and his passport has been impounded. A pre-trial conference has been set for April 21. If convicted, he could be fined up to $5,000 and/or jailed for up to three years on each charge of sedition. For lying to the police, he could be jailed for up to one year and/or fined up to $5,000 on each charge. - See more at: http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/courts-crime/story/filipino-ex-nurse-charged-sedition-and-giving-false-info-the-polic#sthash.GpUVPnmq.dpuf
  4. Filipino militants snatch 2 people in Malaysia KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Suspected Filipino insurgents seized a Chinese tourist and a hotel receptionist from a dive resort in eastern Malaysia, and then fled on the speed boat they arrived in, Malaysian and Philippine officials said Thursday. The kidnapping late Wednesday underscores the persistent security threats in Sabah state, a popular tourist destination and dive spot that is a short boat ride from the southern Philippines, which has long been home to a dangerous mix of Muslim militants and kidnap gangs. It could also complicate already strained relations between China and Malaysia over Kuala Lumpur's hunt for a jetliner that disappeared March 8 with 153 Chinese citizens on board. Six men armed with pistols raided the Singamata Reef Resort, according to a police report forwarded to The Associated Press by a security official. It said the Chinese victim was a 28-year-old woman from Shanghai, while the receptionist was a 40-year-old Philippine national. The Singamata is a midrange resort popular with Chinese tourists in the Semporna district of the state. It has cottages on stilts over the water. A receptionist at the hotel declined to comment, as did police in the district. The attackers were believed to be from the Abu Sayyaf, a Filipino militant Muslim group that has been implicated in seaborne kidnappings for ransom in the region before, said a Philippine intelligence official who didn't give his name because he was not authorized to speak to the media. Last November, suspected Abu Sayyaf militants shot and killed a Taiwanese tourist and kidnapped his wife from a resort in the Semporna area. The woman was released a month later in the southern Philippines. Authorities didn't say whether a ransom was paid. Such deals are normally not immediately disclosed to the media, if at all. The Abu Sayyaf had tenuous historical links to international militant networks, including al-Qaida, but a U.S.-assisted Philippine military crackdown on the group's heartland in Sulu province in the southern Philippines has weakened it considerably in recent years. The group has around 300 fighters and is more focused on ransom kidnappings than the global jihadi cause. Militants are holding more than a dozen captives, including two European bird watchers who were seized from Tawi-Tawi province in 2012. In 2000, Abu Sayyaf gunmen crossed the porous maritime border with Malaysia in speedboats and snatched 21 European tourists and Malaysian and Filipino workers from Malaysia's Sipadan diving resort and brought them to the southern Philippines, where the captives were released in exchange for ransom. Malaysian authorities, worried that the kidnappings have tarnished the country's image as a tourist destination, have beefed up security and patrols along the sea border. ____ Gomez reported from Manila, Philippines. Associated Press writer Chris Brummitt in Kuala Lumpur contributed to this report. 5. As reported on Asiaone forum. http://forums.asiaone.com/showthread.php?t=65092 Apparently, there now exists a Filipino sub-committee inside a Residents’ Committee (RC), presumably to look after the interests of Filipino residents. One wonders if there exists other sub-committees also like Myanmar sub-committee, PRC sub-committee, India sub-committee etc, to look after the interests of the other nationals living in the estate. Indeed, a scan through the various forums showed that Singaporean netizens are questioning such a move. Many are asking how RCs are going to help integrate residents when they have their separate nationality-based sub-committees: Quote: Compassvale Villa RC is only 1 of the 9 RCs in the Punggol Central Constituency, which itself is part of the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC. 6. http://singaporeseen.stomp.com.sg/stomp/sg...buy_coffee.html STOMPer RadXon was touched to see two Filipino women buying coffee for an old couple who had no money, and even sharing their sandwich with them. Said the STOMPer: "I was having breakfast at a coffeeshop and saw two Filipino ladies no more than 26. "They were drinking coffee and chatting. Then I saw a very old couple apparently with not much money and looking abandoned. "What I saw next made me feel ashamed. "The Filipino women walked to the old couple and asked if they wanted coffee and proceeded to queue up for coffee, bought two cups for them and also offered their sandwich to them. "Kudos to them." 邪有邪报, 善有善报!!!! 好心有好报!!!!!
