  1. A lady and her 7-year-old son are eating in a restaurant. In a moment of playfulness, the boy swallows a coin and chokes. The mother tries slapping his back, rubbing his neck, shaking him hard and everything she could think of, without success. The boy begins to turn blue. The desperate mother starts screaming for help. A man gets up from a nearby table, and with astonishing tranquillity, without saying a word, lowers the boy's pants and squeezes his testicles. The boy yells and spits out the coin. The gentleman with the same tranquillity returns to his table without a word. Soon, the mother calms down and approaches the gentleman to thank him for saving her son's life. She asks, "Sir, are you a doctor?" "No, ma'am," comes the reply. "I'm an Assistant Commissioner of the Inland Revenue Authority of Singapore." "We are trained to squeeze everyone's balls to make them cough up the last penny." Reminder to file and confirm your tax returns by 15-April 2019 (for paper filing) and 18 April 2019 (e-filing)
  2. BANGKOK—The office of Thailand’s attorney general on Friday said it intends to file criminal charges against former Prime MinisterYingluck Shinawatra for allegedly mishandling a multibillion-dollar rice subsidy program, potentially threatening the fragile calm that has largely prevailed in the country since a May military coup. The agency said that after consulting with Thailand’s anticorruption agency there was sufficient evidence to press criminal charges against the former leader at Thailand’s Supreme Court. Ms. Yingluck, the sister of populist billionaire Thaksin Shinawatra , who was ousted in a coup in 2006, could face a prison sentence of up to 10 years if she is convicted, a prospect that could infuriate her supporters who have largely kept a low profile since martial law was imposed, analysts and risk consultants say. Ms. Yingluck, 47, also faces possible impeachment as prime minister, despite being removed from office shortly before last year’s putsch for improperly transferring a senior civil servant. A verdict is expected later Friday. If Thailand’s military-appointed legislature votes for impeachment, Ms. Yingluck would be banned from running for any political office for the next five years, effectively sidelining the country’s most popular politician and hardening the fault-lines between Thailand’s civilian populist leaders and its conservative armed forces. Ms. Yingluck’s critics describe the rice subsidy as a reckless attempt to win over rural voters. It was introduced after Ms. Yingluck’s landslide election win in 2011 and involved buying rice from farmers at as much as twice the market price and then stockpiling harvests in the hope of steering global prices higher. The program fell apart when rival exporters such as India and Vietnam increased their shipments to the global market, driving down prices and leaving Thailand with paper losses of more than $15 billion. Ms. Yingluck in her final appearance before the legislature Thursday defended the program as a means to lift incomes in agricultural areas. “It gives farmers the opportunity to have a better life like everyone else,” she said, adding that barring her from politics is a violation of her basic rights and freedom. The attorney general office’s move and the impending impeachment decision aren’t expected to prompt mass protests, at least not yet, Bangkok-based consultancy PQA Associates said. Gatherings of five or more people are outlawed under martial law and the armed forces have been aggressive in breaking up fledgling protests in recent months. The legal cases against Ms. Yingluck, however, risk chipping away at the veneer of neutrality that junta leader Prime Minister Prayuth Chan-ocha has tried to erect since seizing power, although he has denied trying to sway any verdict against Ms. Yingluck. At the least, PQA Associates said in note to clients, the cases “will be a further setback to the regime’s legitimacy and could portend a return to civil unrest over the near and medium term.”
  3. Lee Kuan Yew’s Two Younger Children File Case on Interview Deal http://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2015-09-22/lee-kuan-yew-s-two-younger-children-file-case-on-interview-deal Lee Kuan Yew’s two younger children initiated court action in Singapore relating to an agreement between their late father, the city’s first prime minister, and the government. Lee Wei Ling and Lee Hsien Yang, executors of the elder Lee’s estate, filed a court application on Sept. 2, according to a record with the Singapore High Court. Their father’s agreement related to the "custody and use" of interviews given by the former premier to the government’s Oral History Department, according to a statement by the Attorney-General, the respondent. “The government will establish the proper interpretation and status of the agreement before the court,” it said in the statement. Further details of the case weren’t immediately available, and Lee Hsien Yang declined to comment. Lee Wei Ling wasn’t immediately available to comment. The Republic of Singapore’s founding father, Lee Kuan Yew, died on March 23 at the age of 91, triggering a nationwide outpouring of grief. More than a million people waited for as long as 10 hours to pay their last respects. Lee’s death and celebrations to mark Singapore’s 50th year of independence helped the ruling People’s Action Party, helmed by eldest son Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, extend its more than five-decade rule at the Sept. 11 election. The case is Lee Wei Ling, Lee Hsien Yang v Attorney-General, OS816/2015. Singapore High Court. Anyone heard anything about this ???

Troubles have deepened in the past two months with hundreds of dismissed workers occupying its a paint shop packed with flammable materials at its main plant to protest the massive layoffs. Unionists have been occupying the Ssangyong factory for more than two months to protest a major restructuring plan that calls for the shedding of 2,646 workers, or 36 percent of the work force. Some 1,670 have left the company voluntarily but nearly 1,000 opposed the move. Ssangyong motor is now waiting for court order for bankruptcy in Sep 2009. news reported from 腾讯新闻 03 Aug 09

  22. Foreign minister quits over security gaffe Maxime Bernier arrives to be sworn in as Canada's new Foreign Minister in August 2007, accompanied by Julie Couillard. Photo: AP May 27, 2008 - 11:09AM Canadian Foreign Minister Maxime Bernier has resigned after it emerged he had left classified documents in the apartment of a former girlfriend with suspected ties to organised crime. "Minister Bernier has learned and informed me that he left classified government documents in a non-secure location. This is a serious error. [He] has accepted his responsibilities in offering to resign," Prime Minister Stephen Harper said. Mr Bernier, 45, had been under increasing pressure to quit amid revelations about the personal life of Julie Couillard, the former girlfriend who has been linked to the Hells Angels. An authoritative political source said on condition of anonymity that Mr Bernier had left the the documents in Ms Couillard's apartment. An interview with her was set to be shown on Canadian television. Mr Bernier, who took over the job last August, had also been under fire for a series of recent gaffes. Most notably, he embarrassed Ottawa in April by openly suggesting that Afghan President Hamid Karzai replace the Governor of Kandahar province. Canada has 2500 troops based in the southern Afghan city. Mr Bernier was the first minister to quit the cabinet under a cloud since the Conservatives won power in January 2006. Mr Harper said Trade Minister David Emerson would take over as foreign minister on a temporary basis. A grim-faced Mr Harper, speaking just hours before departing on an official visit to Europe, insisted Mr Bernier's resignation had nothing to do with the media furore over his relationship with Ms Couillard. "This is about one thing and that is a failure to uphold expected standards on government documents. It is a very serious mistake, regardless of who the minister is, regardless of personal life," he said. Ms Couillard, 38, accompanied Mr Bernier at his swearing-in as foreign minister in 2007, and while they dated she was officially designated as Mr Bernier's "spouse" so she could travel with him on government business. The pair broke up some months ago, but were said to have dined with Public Safety Minister Stockwell Day and his wife at an Ottawa restaurant as recently as late March. According to reports, Mr Bernier did not know about her past until it was reported by the media. Mr Bernier's resignation spectacularly ends the political career of a man who some believed could eventually challenge for the position of prime minister. It also removes a foreign minister who looked out of his depth from the start. Mr Bernier had been industry minister when Mr Harper asked him to take over at foreign affairs and sell the Afghan mission to the politically influential French-speaking province of Quebec, where anti-war sentiment is traditionally high. The new minister made precisely one speech in Quebec on the mission and then disappeared from view on the file, only really regaining the public spotlight when details of his ties to Ms Couillard came to light. All three opposition parties blasted Mr Harper for not providing details on the documents. "Obviously Mr Bernier has been suffering from an accumulation of blunders over the past number of weeks. The issue has now come to a breaking point," senior Liberal MP Ralph Goodale told reporters. "The Prime Minister has a lot of explaining to do." http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2008/05/27/1211653992067.html no nid cook simi excuse abt apex of responsibility.

  24. Read today ST on Malaysia Election and stated : PAS gets lucky start in stronghold. Parti Islam SeMalaysia (PAS) started off on a lucky footing in its defence of Kelantan yesterday when a woman candidate won a walkover for a state seat after her opponent was unexpectedly disqualified. Senator Wan Ubaidah Omar, 52, was declared the winner by the returning officer at the nomination centre in the Kelantan capital, after Mr Mustopha Ahmed from Barisan Nasional (BN) was found to be a bankrupt. BN officials said they would look into how background checks on Mr Mustopha, who is a State Telekom Malaysia director, did not show up the potential problem. Mr Mustopha admitted standing as a guarantor for a loan taken by his friend a few years ago. "Actually, my case as a guarantor had been settled. I will refer my case to my lawyer and party adviser for further action," he said That's is life in the land of the BOLEHs.................
