It has been disturbing me all weekend, what do you think is the root cause Is it a road design issue in general, or are drivers here in Singapore become more callous and careless? Or is everyone so tired, stressed/over worked that rushing around with no concentration while driving?

What happened? The driver who caused a fatal accident on the CTE (Central Expressway) in 2021 has been sentenced to two and a half years of jail as well as a 10 year driving ban. Ng Wen Xun, 35, was reported to have been speeding at up to 215km/h in a Mazda 3 when she lost control of her vehicle, hitting a guard railing before colliding with two motorcycles, another car, and a lorry. Ng’s car then hit the guard railing on the other side before stopping and catching fire. The lorry turned on it's right side, sending two of it's passengers onto the road. Almost all parties were sent to the hospital, with the exception being a 65 year old driver from the other car involved in the crash. One of the motorcyclists, 31, died in the hospital after succumbing to their injuries. One of the lorry passengers was found to have fractures to his spine, needing to be hospitalised for 9 days. Ng pleaded guilty to two charges of dangerous driving, one causing death and another of causing grievous hurt. However, her lawyer said her client exhibited a "very limited manner of dangerous driving". To add to this point, Ms Chee brought up how the situation occurred during the Covid-19 pandemic, and so there were fewer road users due to the hybrid work situation. She said her client has "genuine remorse" and is deeply apologetic and "very, very sorry" for the loss of life she has caused. Ng will serve her jail sentence beginning from June 12, or pay bail set at $15,000 on Monday. If convicted for dangerous driving causing death, one can be jailed between two and eight years and banned from driving for 10 years. The consequences of dangerous driving causing grievous hurt are a jail term between a year and five years, as well as a driving ban of eight years. Online chatter People questioned how Ng was going so fast. Others criticised the sentence, feeling that the judge was too lenient and that the punishment should have been harsher. ========= Be the first to get the latest road/ COE news and get first dibs on exclusive promos and giveaways in our Telegram SGCM Community. A Singaporean man has been charged with dangerous driving over a four-car accident in New Zealand that killed a motorcyclist. Lew Wei Kiong, 29, had been due in the Dunedin District Court on Tuesday (Dec 8) to face a count of dangerous driving causing death. Three new charges of dangerous driving causing injury were also due to be brought against him, reported the Otago Daily Times, but the case has been adjourned to Dec 22. Lew, who works at the Energy Market Authority (EMA), was involved in the accident along the state highway in North Otago, about 20km south of Oamaru, on Nov 29. EMA confirmed to Shin Min Daily News that Lew was an employee and that it was extending aid to two employees in New Zealand. According to stuff.co.nz, Lew was driving a rented Toyota and had allegedly crossed the double yellow lines on the highway to overtake a group of cars. He crashed into two cars and a motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction. The passenger in the Toyota, who is also believed to be Singaporean, had to be cut from the car and was flown to Dunedin Public Hospital with serious injuries. Five others suffered injuries, while the motorcyclist, 39-year-old Craig Alan Chambers, died at the scene. New Zealand police had blamed the car crash on driver "inattention". The accident also reportedly reignited a debate over tourist drivers and the condition of roads in New Zealand, with Labour Party MP Damien O'Connor suggesting that poor road design could have led to the crash. He said that certain roads on the country's south island could be confusing for foreign drivers and clearer signage was needed. http://www.straitstimes.com/asia/australianz/singapore-tourist-charged-with-dangerous-driving-after-fatal-crash-in-new-zealand?utm_campaign=Echobox&utm_medium=Social&utm_source=Facebook#xtor=CS1-10

CB motorcyclist... The Cambodian authorities are seeking the owner of a Singapore-registered motorcycle allegedly involved in a hit-and-run accident that killed an elderly man. The incident happened on Feb 7 in Cambodia's capital city of Phnom Penh, in the Khan Por Senchey area along the National Highway 4. According to local media reports, the victim was an 81-year-old man from the Por Senchey district who was crossing the road on his bicycle at about 12.50pm Cambodian time (1.50pm Singapore time). Cambodian news site Cambodia News English (CNE) reported on Feb 7 that the victim had his hands up in the air while crossing, signalling for traffic to slow down. A "high-powered motorcycle" then slammed into him at high speed, killing him instantly. There have been conflicting reports about whether the motorcycle, which was later identified as a BMW R 1200 GS Adventure, had toppled or slowed down after the crash. SINGAPORE Biker linked to hit-and-run was in Cambodia for charity Feb 21, 2019 Related Stories Overall crime rate up in Singapore Carousell launching new review system and tech to tackle fraudsters Two arrested for trying to enter Singapore illegally on sampan But it was consistently reported that it had sped away and that the rider, who eyewitnesses said was dressed in yellow, did not stop to render assistance. However, a piece of debris from the motorcycle with the BMW logo was found at the scene. Photos of the aftermath showed the piece of debris next to the body of the victim covered by a cloth on the ground and distraught family members crying. The bicycle he was on also lay twisted on the ground with its front wheel missing. FOUNDIn an update yesterday, CNE reported that the motorcycle was found parked outside a boutique hotel near the Phnom Penh Central Market area. The motorbike was also missing a piece from its front, and it is believed that the piece of debris found at the scene was from the same motorbike. Pictures of the motorbike showed that it bore stickers with the flags of Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand and Laos. The BMW motorcycle model has a capacity of 1,170cc, with a maximum speed of over 200kmh. It has a weight of about 260kg and a 30-litre aluminium fuel tank and is described on the BMW website as a motorbike able to "overcome every type of terrain". It costs more than $50,000 here inclusive of the certificate of entitlement. CNE told The New Paper yesterday that it received a tip-off from an anonymous source on Facebook that the owner of the motorcycle had allegedly returned to Singapore to seek treatment for an injured wrist, leaving the motorbike behind. The news has riled both Singaporean and Cambodian netizens, many of whom have demanded she return to Cambodia to assist in investigations. Netizens have also identified a woman who lives in Singapore as the alleged owner. Checks by TNP on her Facebook page showed the mother of two in several photos with the same motorbike found outside the hotel in Phnom Penh. She was also affiliated with local rider groups and appeared to frequently travel by motorbike to Malaysia and Thailand. Attempts by TNP to contact her have been unsuccessful, and her Facebook page was deactivated yesterday evening. A close friend of the woman who did not want to be identified told TNP he was surprised to hear of the allegations. "This is news to me... she is a close friend," he said. "I've never known her to run away from responsibilities." The man added that she has also not responded to any of his messages since. Another acquaintance of the woman told TNP he was unsure if she was Singaporean but confirmed that she lives in Singapore. Singapore does not currently have an extradition treaty with Cambodia. TNP understands that while the Cambodian authorities are still looking for the woman, they have yet to contact their counterparts in Singapore.

A 57-year old man died on Monday after he was hit by a car at the junction of Tampines Street 11 and Tampines Ave 2. It is believed that the man was standing at the traffic junction when he was hit by a Kia car. The driver of the car apparently lost control of his vehicle and crashed into the traffic light along Tampines Street 11, outside the Church of the Holy Trinity. The traffic light was smashed from the impact, and the deceased, who was waiting at the junction, was apparently flung onto the road. The car also hit two other vehicles - a van and a taxi - after it swerved and stopped on another lane. http://www.straitstimes.com/news/singapore/courts-crime/story/fatal-traffic-accident-along-tampines-street-81-57-year-old-pedest Pictures from hardwarezone
