    When things turn ugly

The new F12berlinetta is provocative. The sensual styling will likely appeal and tempt those who are into wheeled art. Not to mention by bearing the highly praised badge on its bonnet, it must be good. Then, things could have been very different. Mansory, a luxury car modification firm based in Brand, Germany, showcased its take on the F12 at the recent Frankfurt Motor Show. Called the 'La Revoluzione', the GT has now been cloaked in maroon carbon fibre, which looks highly exotic, but less pleasing to our eyes. We reckon the firm could have been more creative with the moniker too (likely to have been inspired by Ferrari's halo car - LaFerrari). It seems to be a case of 'too many cooks spoil the soup'. In our humble opinion, the people at Maranello did a good job with the F12. But Mansory - not so. Other than the unique carbon fibre body, we thought the fixed wing broke the svelte, graceful silhouette of the stock car. From the front, it seems that Mansory has eradicated the clever active cooling duct for the brakes. Gone too are the aero bridges behind the front wheel arches. The fixed wing looks fine from this angle, though, and if there's one thing Mansory did right to the aesthetics, we reckon it would be the exhaust tips. The German tuner has upped figures from the 6.3-litre V12 to above 1,200bhp, which enables the La Revoluzione to complete the century sprint in 2.9 seconds - down from 3.1 in the stock car. Before we end this post, we thought we should remind you of how gorgeous the original car was.
  4. http://dai.ly/x14jt3d Porsche recently showcased its 918 Spyder at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It is all common for auto makers to showcase their latest products at one of the globe's biggest and most awaited car shows, much less for a halo car. But the people from Stuttgart did more than that. While a team was preparing the final production version of the 918 for its world premiere at Frankfurt, another brought it out for a spin at the Nurburgring. The result was a record-breaking 6:57. That puts the Porsche right behind the barely legal Radical SR8, overtaking the Dodge Viper ACR (7:12), which held the fastest street going production car record for two years. Now jump to the video to catch a glimpse of the 918 in action.
  5. With 197bhp, 300Nm of torque and a top speed of 234km/h, a high performance version of the new 1.6-litre SIDI turbo engine will globally premiere in a Vauxhall Cascada at the upcoming Frankfurt Motor Show. The engine is one of the newly-designed Vauxhall four-cylinder SIDI (Spark Ignition Direct Injection) units and will join the existing 167bhp 1.6-litre SIDI turbo, available from its launch. The new power unit delivers 11 percent more power, including 300Nm maximum torque with overboost - 70Nm more than the comparable 1.6-litre turbo predecessor. At the heart of the SIDI turbo is a new engine block that can withstand a maximum combustion pressure of up to 130 bar in the cylinder. The block is made of grey cast iron with an aluminium baseplate. A different type of piston was also developed on top of a reduced compression ratio. Vauxhall engineers also achieved a high power output with exceptional refinement by optimising the car
  6. Daihatsu showcased the new mini roadster model at the Frankfurt Motor Show in Sept. Looks really nice... I'd take it over the Copen any day... The 3 piece liquid crystal roof that folds into the boot is especially cool. Hope it make production fast. Oh yeah.... It's still a Kei car.. meaning 660cc Turbo. ------------------------------------------------ A future replacement for the Copen, perhaps? Daihatsu has created a concept called OFC-1 hinting very strongly at its next-generation mini-roadster. The three-piece glass roof, featuring a liquid-crystal sunroof, opens in less than 10 seconds and leaves enough boot space to accommodate a pair of overnight bags. It features 'a high-performance turbo engine', says Daihatsu, and a CVT gearbox with seven-speed sequential-shift mode and paddleshifts, yet excellent fuel economy is promised. Electronically controlled adaptive suspension and four-wheel disc brakes aid handling, safety and comfort, and the OFC-1 sits on 17" wheels with 165/50R sports tyres.
  7. The Maserati GranCabrio Fendi designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi was born from the union of two iconic brands of the made in Italy, which share common values such as craftsmanship and tradition. A masterpiece of technology and craftsmanship, the Maserati GranCabrio Fendi will be introduced at the Frankfurt MotorShow in September 2011. The Maserati GranCabrio Fendi is crafted at the historical Maserati headquarters in Modena, with exclusive materials bespokely created in various colours for this project. The three-layered body colour named Grigio Fiamma Fendi is a special dark grey with an iridescent golden finish on the surface. The wood trim Pergamena Fendi runs across the width of the dashboard, on the doors and on the top of the gear lever, all in the iconic FENDI yellow, like the brake callipers and the embroidered yellow trident on the headrests. Adding a stronger yet elegant character to the GranCabrio is FENDI

  10. I was never into SUV and think they are boring & dull looking, & reverve for only auties & grannies...that is until I saw these . This is one SUV I don't mind getting caught in. The American's friends are whinning over why it wasn't released in North America. Hope it will go on sale in SG. Article: Coutesy of Autoblog [More pictures & details on link below). Link:http://www.autoblog.com/2007/09/04/frankfu...-to-production/ ----------------------------------------------- As you can see here, the Ford Kuga crossover that will go on sale in Europe and the UK in 2008 is very close in appearance to the Iosis X concept car on which it's based. If you compare the two using the galleries below, you'll see that the Kuga's roofline is a smidge less aggressive, which makes for happy backseat passengers. The production car will even be available with the same 19" rollers featured on the concept. As you can plainly see, the Kuga is an attractive blend of Ford Europe's "Kinetic Design" language and some other styling elements that we've seen become prevalent in a number of crossovers. We're talking mostly about that upswept D-pillar, which can be seen on everything from the Nissan Murano to the to the Toyota RAV4. The front end styling meshes beautifully with that of the Mondeo it'll be sharing showroom space with in the future. And the rear, while not terribly unique, is nicely done as well. The interior is better than anything you'll find in the US-market Escape, and yes, that shifter you see is connected to a 6-speed manual gearbox. A 134-horsepower (136 PS) turbodiesel lives under the bonnet, and both FWD and 4WD variants will be available. Like just about every other Ford of Europe product, we'd like to see the Kuga cross over to our side of the Atlantic. Compared to this, the Ford Escape is just lame. Cover Our Own Ass Disclaimer: Though the Kuga Crossover was embargoed by Ford until 7:01PM EST, or 12:01AM GMT, the vehicle was first spotted on km77.com, then Motor Authority.

  15. Link: http://www.testdriven.co.uk/news.cfm/daiha..._world_premiere A striking new Daihatsu sport utility makes its world debut at 'The 61st Frankfurt Motor Show', combining city car manoeuvrability with all-weather agility and ample five-person interior space. The D-Compact 4x4 is a convincing-looking concept car featuring a roomy and practical four-door body that avoids the bulk, high fuel consumption and negative image of some off-roaders. It will be unveiled at 12.45 pm on Tuesday, 13 September in Hall 6, Stand C11. Considerably wider than the current production Terios 1.3 sport utility, the D-Compact 4x4 features a new high-torque 105 PS 1.5 litre DOHC 16-valve petrol engine derived from that fitted to the new Sirion. Its full-time four-wheel drive system includes a mechanical centre differential lock and Vehicle Stability Control. The body includes state-of-the-art technologies safeguarding both occupants and pedestrians. Following Daihatsu's own tests, the D-Compact matched a Euro NCAP three-star rating. Compared to the Terios, the D-Compact 4x4 measures 4,075 mm long (3,845 mm) with a width of 1,745 mm (1,555 mm) and height of 1,760 mm (1,695 mm), while its wheelbase is 2,580 mm (2,420 mm). Further illustrating its squat and stable stance, the front and rear tracks are 1,445 mm and 1,480 mm respectively compared to the Terios Tracker's 1,315 mm and 1,310 mm.
  16. Alfa Romeo at the 60th Frankfurt International Motor Show Alfa Romeo has issued the following press release: 'Beauty is not enough' is the underlying concept of Alfa Romeo's new advertising campaign. The slogan expresses the importance of content over form. Customers are attracted to the Alfa brand by Italian styling and Italian good looks, but they also appreciate the handling and engineering of our cars when they try them for themselves. They also recognise the driving satisfaction that typifies an Alfa car over any type of road in any situation and in any weather. The host of new products introduced at the Frankfurt International Motor Show are ideal showcases for our philosophy. The cars are indisputable stars of a display area that can be described as a film set made up of compartments. High-tech aluminium and glass cells form big curvy container-like rooms. The setting is complemented by a great superelevated structure in aluminium, glass and steel elevation rods that will act as a press office and VIP room. A gallery open on all sides will display the Alfa Romeo range. The place of honour goes to the new Alfa GT that will be accessible to the public for the first time. The model was created in conjunction with Bertone for original styling coupled with exhilarating performance. It represents a revolutionary new concept, i.e. sportiness combined with comfort and elegance. Three of the versions on show in Frankfurt are equipped with a 2.0 JTS 16v with Selespeed gearbox while a fourth car is fitted with the 1.9 16v Multijet. Another focal point of the exhibition area is the New 166, Alfa's flagship that expresses harmony of form and content while also wedding the style of a great saloon with the sporting traits of a coup
