  1. RIP to those who died, condolences to the families. Must be even harder during this holiday period. http://www.themalaymailonline.com/malaysia/article/muar-bus-crash-kills-13 For those driving up, drive carefully and stop for rest / shut eye if tired. I wonder if buses fitted with seat belts could have saved some lives in this case.

  4. Been hearing about scumbag dealers all over the place but this particular one is different. Had a deal with him 2 weeks ago. Everything went smoothly but on the day of after collecting the ride found something not right with the car. Theres a whining sound fr the back and it gets worse when the speed went higher. During test drive not noticeable coz only did a short distance in the neighborhood. Went to my regular workshop and the guys told me the rear differential gone case. So no choice ask them go ahead and i called the dealer. Told me go ahead with the repair 1st then later on will settle with me. In my mind i was thinking hor seh liao dealer universal pattern come out already but no choice gotta get it fixed coz travelling on the highway was seriously un-tahan-able. On the day of collecting my car, was thinking of how to tell the dealer abt my claim and the second issue came up. LSD chwee. Same thing drove back to my workshop and got it fixed. By then i got abit worried as the repair bills are chalking up to abt 2k+ and my frens were telling me dealers being dealers i wun be compensated a single cent as they will push all responsibilities. Still, tot try no harm. 1st day called say not free. Same for second day. Thinking of giving up and finally caught him on line and he asked me to meet him in his office. Showed him the bill, did some calculation while kept shaking his head like on drugs, pull out his check book and wrote me a chq. A chq in full to cover the repairs. I was really surprised as i was half expecting only a token fr him. Before i cld say anything, he told me: Remember me. I am not ur regular car dealer, i cho swee swee one, wif a big grin. So, I found out today not all car dealers are asssholes. There are still some good ones ard, at least this one is. Where to find him? Shun Li Industrial Park Blk 99 #03-02.

  10. Over the weekend I needed to get my (push) bike home to Punggol from Changi South. Rode it via Changi Road whatever to TPE then all the way straight along the expressway in the breakdown lane. (dun tell anyone ok - its not allowed ) Took me around 45 minutes, even though I am dreadfully out of shape and it is a rusted $90 Aleoca. Made me realise that for this particular trip bike would be a really good option over publlic transport. BUT - it is illegal to ride bike on expressway What would be really cool would be if for at least some selected expressways that don't have easy alternative routes, a proper cycle lane could be set up. Biggest challenge would be the slip roads - I think this would be best handled by tunnels (each one would only need to be about 2m wide by 2.4 high so quite easy from engineering standpoint and not major work. For the bridges - (like Punggol River) then put a lane on outside of bridge - again weight demands are low so shouldn't (I wouldn't think) provide too much of an engineering challenge. At first they wouldn't be used hardly at all, but as time went by, and we started to get people growing up using such things to get around, then usage would increase hugely. When I was growing up a 30 minute cycle to work was nothing, I was doing it everyday. (I worked nights, cycled down a main thoroughfare and through a park) as had a shower at work. Would cycle home again afterwards - saved on petrol and parking, and kept a little bit fit as well. So - if such a thing was technically feasible, would you support it? Would you use it? Why or why not?
  11. Most of us who do grocery in supermarkets will know about express checkout counters which limit items purchased to less than 10 to speed up buying process. Recently my wife and I were in a hurry and used a express counter when we have about 15 items with us. The counter girl at first refused to serve us, pointing that there are more than 10 items. Then my wife insisted that there are 2 of us, and she could split the items equally so that it is less than 10 items for each person. The counter girl obliged unwillingly with a black face, so do some of the faces in the queue. I just wonder if it is improper for us to do that? If there are 2 of us, and we have less than 20 items among us, then aren't we eligible to use the express counter? Couldn't we instruct the counter person to split the items so that we are not breaking the 'law'? What is your opinion? I know there is no right or wrong. Just want to know how rampant is the practice.

Suddenly saw the speed camera juz a short distance away, brake also no use as i can't reduce the speed so fast from 160 to 90. As i saw my car go past the speed camera at 110 km/h, the red light camera never flash my car. 20. Anyone tried the waterless car grooming at Esso@Lavender Street? It charges $20 for Normal Saloon, $25 for MPV/SUV. The detailing services include - Clean external car body and rims to remove dirt - Wax and buff to a showroom shine - All weather protective seal with anti-static coat - Water beading coat on glass - Rejuvenate & protect tires against drying and aging. They state that only 15-20mins service time is needed per car. So I'm wondering if they'll do a shabby job.
