This thread is meant for fellow forumers who have migrated down under or are intending to do so. Those who have, care to share some tips and information about how life is like? What instigated you to do so? Is life really better on the other side? I'm harbouring thoughts of migrating (or quitting, like our government puts it) down under. Life here is getting really suffocating man... no thanks to the influx of people from a certain large Asian country. Starting to feel like a second-rate citizen in my very own country.

Hi all, I am a university student and currently have to work on a project on business ethics. I can currently working on a project regarding the ethics issues surrounding car repairing workshops. In this project, we are supposed to identify car repair firms which maybe possibly breaking ethical guidelines and evaluate on them(whether they are valid or that customers are too demanding, what are the difficulties these firms are facing that made them resort to these unethical measures etc) Will be very appreciative if you guys could share your experiences and thoughts on them. We have shortlisted a few issues to work on: 1. Replacement of faulty parts in customers' cars with second

Lots of topics about bikes and motorised bikes lately. So I thought, time to share the blame around, haha. What's the most crazy/inconsiderate/aggressive pedestrian you've ever encountered? I'll start with an anecdote of a real crazy guy. The champion for sheer insanity has to go to this guy I encountered power-walking down the road. Nothing unusual in that per se. Except this guy (who looked educated and well-heeled - not some blur Bangla or Cheena guy) was doing it smack in the middle of the violently, blindly-curving South Buona Vista road (that some jokers like to take really fast), at around 10-11pm, wearing a black exercise getup. With earphones, no less - so even his ability to react would've been diminished. Funny, his was probably the only exercise routine likely to decrease life expectancy. Please share your stories.

Dear bros and sis, I am planning to get a DVD recorder so that i can record my fav shows on tv in case i am not around. Any brands to recommend? Preferably with HDMI output. Budget around 600-700. Was looking at the Hubstation as I am a Starhub Digital Cable user, but the feedback on the Hubstation was very bad due to lots of problems like auto rebooting, hang, etc. Anyone can share their experience with using a DVD recorder with a digital setup box from Starhub? If I am going to record a program on lets say HBO, I can only watch HBO right? I can't watch HBO and record Star Movies at the same time right? All comments on pros and cons will be appreciated!

Do tell me the name of the workshop and its address because we are going down to the workshop itself to check things out!

Was travelling along CTE near yio chu kang exit when i notice from afar 3 cars approaching from a distance of 200m real fast. I kept to the centre lane. Within 4 seconds 2 civics past by me and their engines were really loud and sounded rather powerful. The 3rd car is a suzuki swift and was the slowest among the lot but i believe its at least 140km/h for the last while the first 2 civics were around 180km/h. The aftermath were a few kiddies who tried to catch up with them or seize the opportunity to speed. I wonder whether the police could catch up with them if they were to notice this action. Cheers!

Hi all, Normally, I would do some investigative work on aftermarket products before sinking in my hard-earned money. At an unnamed workshop, the benefits of Broquet was greatly exalted and after muuch persuasion, I decided to take the plunge and opted for the TopFueller 60 for my petite 1.5 CC MPV. My inquisitive nature prompted me to do some research on the web and to my horror, I discovered that there was a fair number of negative comments about it on the local car forums and I narrowed down to two UK reports which pretty much damned the product. I printed the reports and headed down to the workshop, demanding a refund and the dismantlement of the product. I was asked to wait for the Broquet folks to come down to debate on the findings of the reports. Instead, two guys came swaggering by; they did not even read through the reports/simply glanced thru it, dismissed them casually and stated that they have been around for 10 years. They even dared me to publish the reports in the forums. I was taken aback by their attitude - it's really sad to see such behaviour. Well, I am one who never backs down from a challenge and this challenge will help many to make a wise decision before spending their hard-earned money on such products. For those who are getting benefits from broquet, good for you. For those who are thinking of getting one, think twice/thrice!!!! Have a good day to all. a) "OK at last something scientific. Well from a scientist any way. Yesterday I was fortunate to attend a seminar on oils and fuel additives in motorsport, at Fuchs headquarters in Stoke on Trent. Fuchs are a 800,000,000 GBP turnover company and are the owners of Silkolene. Amongst the guests were Ralliart, R.E.D., B.R.T. and many of the top competition preparation companies in the UK. The main speaker was John Rowland. John is Chief R&D Chemist for Fuchs and one of the leading petrochemical chemists in the UK. During the day, we discussed how octane enhancers work. I asked John Rowland if he had heard of Broquet. Indeed he had and he had met Henry Broquet some years ago. I asked if he had tested the product and if the product worked. He replied that the laws of chemistry would not allow tins pellets to modify the atomic structure of either iso-octanes or heptanes (the constituants of petroleum) in any way, shape or form. Nor will any tin be dissolved into the fuel. He added that using a tin pellet "catalyst" will not reduce emmissions, will not improve mpg, will not reduce detonation and will not reduce valve seat recession. During the day we were handed various leaflets which discussed commercially available oil and fuel additives. These fell into 4 categorises. 1) Useful 2) Harmless, but totally useless 3) Midly harmful, but totally useless 4) Harmful, but totally useless In John Rowlands opinion, Tin pellets fall into category 2, along with fuel line magnets." b) In of specific products, the Broquet device was tested in 1994 by the UK consumer group which They ran three different cars at three different test speeds on a rolling road - as standard, with the Broquet fitted, and with it removed again. (This is not quite as satisfactory as "proper" cycle-based rolling road tests, but far better than uncontrolled on-road measurements.) The results were as follows: Citroen AX 1.1 Speed (mph) MPG std MPG with Broquet MPG back to std 30 69 70 71 50 54 56 56 70 40 40 41 Rover 620i Speed (mph) MPG std MPG with Broquet MPG back to std 30 49 52 53 50 41 42 43 70 32 33 33 Mitsubishi Galant 1.8 Speed (mph) MPG std MPG with Broquet MPG back to std 30 55 57 58 50 46 46 47 70 35 35 34 It can be seen that the improvements after fitting the Broquet are extremely small, and in most cases the benefit remains after the device has been removed. Which? believed that this was because the cars were relatively new and still running-in - economy is therefore improving as the engine friction reduces. If the improvement were really due to the Broquet, the economy should have returned to "baseline" after it was removed. Broquet's response to this was that the tests were "unrepresentative" as they had used "modern petrol-engined cars". But remember that these cars were built in 1993, and so today would be classed as 11 years old - yet nowhere on Broquet's web site does it state that small (or zero) economy gain would be expected on post-1992 vehicles. Interestingly, certain makers of both catalyst and magnet -based fuel "saving" devices claim that they were used by the RAF during World War 2. Amazing that the British armed forces should have found not one, but two, miraculous fuel-saving devices; even more amazing that they have apparently now "lost" both of them. (Since getting fuel to the front line is a major logistical problem, the armed forces are more interested in fuel consumption than you might think.) A sceptic might wonder how much truth there is in either claim.

hi all hv got a wira 1.3 Manual, was running on 13in alloys & 175/70/13 tyres given by SE for abt 4 mths then itchy backside go & upsize to 195/50/15, immediately felt car very draggy, pick up draggy, to maintain normal cruising speed also need more throttle, FC & sound level increase. as the rims are light weight taiwanese rims i did not think there will be much impact. was i wrong. may i know wat i can do. btw the tyres are falken 512, wat are my options? do u think i can chg to an economy tyre maybe softer rubber, treading for comfort & silence rather then roadholding & water clearing? or dwngrade to 14in rims & tyres as a last resort as a compromise btn 13in & 15in? pls also list yr experiences regarding upsize of rims & tyres especially 2x upsize. thks

Hi fellow MCF, I'm thinking of getting a 2+ year old Jazz / Fit. Wonder is this a good buy? Lots of people tell me not to buy 2nd hand, but if I buy new car, got to drive till 10 yrs (it's too long!!). I'm looking at driving for a couple of years and sell it before I decided to settle for a "ultimate" car that I know what I want. Any views? Thanks, jamjammer

I got my Thai mechanic to do the oil change for me. These are some of our experiences. Oil filter is very difficult to remove even for my experienced Thai mechanic. If you can find a tool that can be placed over the oil filter like a cap, that would do fine. It took me to help from the top ( he was underneath). There are wires that get in the way of the oil filter tool, so be very careful. Copper washer: Yes, SA is right to have them replaced. I examined my used CU washer and found it crushed, not on the entire surface, but about half way. The only way to reuse the washer is to turn it over, but the mating surface will be reduced to half the original surface. Get new washers for every oil change. While my Thai mechanic was draining the oil, I went to a lorry spare part shop in Kranji Loop and managed to buy the same type of CU washer for a few cents. I bought 2 pieces. Some Specifications: The oil drain nut is 14mm in diameter CU washer internal hole is 14mm and the external diameter is 20mm, and about 1.5mm thick. The oil filter internal diameter is not 18mm but 17.5mm. I used a calipher to measure it. I used Phillips Conoco 10W-40 semi synthetic oil (Red Colour bottle) costing $30/-. I will monitor my FC to see if it improves with the thinner oil. Regards
